    “Mel?” she asks once she’s told to open her eyes. Her voice is small, uncertain. Mel loves it. Stretched tightly across Caitlyn’s throat is a thick black band, a gold medallion in the middle engraved with the letter M. It’s just fashionable enough to appear as a necklace, a choker. But Mel knows, and so does Caitlyn, who swallows, wonders if her throat feels constricted from emotion or the collar.

    “You wanted to be a wolf, you’ll get treated like a dog.” Mel’s eyes sharpen as she says, “Let this be a lesson to you, Caitlyn.”

    Caitlyn's been acting odd all week. After an uncharacteristic measure taken in the Undercity gets back to Mel, she confronts her, but is surprised to learn she's just scratching the surface of who Caitlyn is.
