When Deacon sits down in the castle garden, he expects that he'll be able to go through his notes in peace, but he forgot that he was the avatar that two idiots lived vicariously through when it came to their mutual pining. Buddy turns Deacon down, and Chase insists on comforting Deacon's rejected feelings (of which he has none).
