Christopher had waited up, despite instructions to sleep, and was curled on the drawing room settee with a book and the family dog, both of whom seemed equally unbothered by the lateness of the hour.
“Did they hate you?” he asked, half-asleep.
“Some of them,” Eddie said, crouching beside him. “But that’s all right.”
Christopher looked at Buck. “You’re not leaving?”
Buck sat on the floor beside them, leaning against Eddie’s knee. “Not a chance.”
