Chapter Text
Saturdays were pretty boring. Yuuya sat slouched over his desk, face buried in the crook of his arm as his classmates talked and laughed around him, preparing for the half-day to start. He had meant to skip today, but he had forgotten something in his desk yesterday, too- and by the time he got to his classroom at school, what was the point in leaving again? He'd be free in a few hours anyway.
Still, it was pretty dull. None of his friends or girlfriends were in his class. He knew a couple of the guys, but not enough to hang out or anything. In his last year at middle school, all his friends had been in the same class as him. School wasn't fun without them.
The bell rang and people started to settle down. Chairs scraped against the floor as students seated themselves. Yamagishi Yukako flipped her hair over her shoulder and wafted a bunch of her cheap perfume his way in the process. It smelled kind of like something he had stolen from Owson for his girls, before he found out it stank like shit.
Their teacher hurried in late, which was normal for her, and began setting up for homeroom at the podium. "Everyone, listen up," she called, drawing attention to the front of the class, "I have an announcement to make. We have a new student joining us..."
Before she finished speaking, the door slid open, and the new boy stepped in. The most striking thing about him was, no doubt, his hair; long and sleek, and a pale, shimmery blond color. He stood beside the teacher as she wrote his name for him vertically on the board- Hazekura Mikitaka.
"Greetings everyone. Please call me Mikitaka. I am an alien!"
What the hell kind of intro was that? Who transfered in on a Saturday anyway? A few people laughed, good-natured enough to take a joke so early in the morning. Mikitaka beamed at them all until the teacher nervously directed him to take a seat near the back.
Mikitaka sat behind Yuuya and tapped him on the shoulder. The delinquent sighed and turned to face him, trying to make it clear through his scowl that he wasn't in the mood for any jokes.
"Hello. I'm Mikitaka. It's nice to meet you."
"Fungami Yuuya," Yuuya grunted, turning around again to face forward.
"If you have any questions about space, please feel free to ask me anything."
This bit was gonna get real old, real quick.

Come lunchtime, Josuke, Okuyasu, and their tiny friend Koichi came to the other classroom to see Mikitaka. Yuuya had been sure the new kid would sit sadly alone for at least the first week, until he dropped the alien thing, but instead the three boys crowded around his desk, asking questions about his day.
"How do you like school so far?" Josuke asked, opening his bento box on Miki's desk.
"Oh, it's great. There are so many interesting things to learn about the earth."
"Did you tell them you're an alien?" Okuyasu at least sounded a tiny bit skeptical. That made two of them, Yuuya thought.
"Of course! Everyone took it very well."
"Yuuya, do you want to join us? We can make room," Koichi said, scooting his seat over a bit as if that would make Mikitaka's desk big enough for five people.
"No, thanks." But he was going to listen in. His girlfriends could eat without him.
"I can't believe they made you start on a Saturday," Okuyasu sighed, "I don't even wanna be here on Saturdays."
"Oh, yes. The paperwork went through yesterday, and so my human female caretaker insisted that I begin my earth schooling immediately."
"Yeah, she's pretty strict, huh?" Josuke asked, picking carrots out of his lunch and swapping them with peppers from Okuyasu's identical bento. "But at least it's only a half day. We can all hang out after school. Right Yuuya?"
"I said no," Yuuya snapped, turning in his seat to glare at them all. That put him directly facing Mikitaka, who absolutely beamed at him.
"Hey, come on man. Miki's not in our class, and someone's gotta take care of him. He's not from around here, you know?" It was sometimes surprising just how amiable Josuke could be, even when faced with confrontation. He looked to Mikitaka again. "Where'd you say you were from again?"
"My planet lies within the Magellanic clouds." Everyone nodded except Yuuya, who snorted a quiet "bullshit." How long were they planning to go along with this charade? Was he seriously going to have to be the one to call Mikitaka out?
As lunchtime ended and the other boys began packing up, Yuuya made up an excuse of going to the toilet and left with them. On the way back to their classroom he badgered them about the new kid.
"You guys aren't seriously buying that alien shit, are you? He's just some weirdo."
"I dunno," Josuke said, thinking it over, "I've seen him do a lot of alien stuff. I believe it."
Yuuya jerked his head around to look at Koichi instead, who shared a nervous look with Josuke. "I mean, I don't know if I really believe it, or get it, but it's not hurting anyone," Koichi said, scratching the back of his neck. "Even if he's lying, it's not a big deal."
"I don't buy it," Okuyasu added, "but it makes him happy, so I figure we should just go along with it. It doesn't really bug us or anything."
"But he's annoying," Yuuya griped, "why doesn't someone just tell him to stop it?"
"Hey." Josuke stepped towards him, eyes blazing a bit, jaw set. "I don't care if you don't believe Miki, or if you think he's bullshitting, or if you think he's annoying or whatever. But he's our friend. I won't let you shittalk him to me or make him feel bad. Got it?"
Yuuya scowled and took a step back, submitting to the other boy's glare. "He's in your class," Koichi spoke up, "the least you can do is try to be nice to him. It won't kill you to be friends."
Yuuya glared at him too. It might.
