Chapter Text
Kim Dokja woke up early to prepare breakfast. He usually skipped it but that changed ever since he accidentally kidnapped two kids who refused to leave him alone.
He flipped a pancake and added it to the giant stack. It was probably the only thing he could perfectly make and sometimes he had too much fun with it. He heard someone walk down the stairs.
“Morning Yoosung,” he said, recognising the footsteps.
“Can we go to the park today?” She asked in a tired voice.
“It’s raining.”
“Exactly!”
“Ok fine… even though we could stay inside… in the warm… and read a book-“
“PLEASE!”
“Ok ok I’ll take you!” He plated her breakfast. “Where’s your brother?”
“I don’t have a brother.”
He rolled his eyes. “Where’s your arch nemesis?”
“Asleep of course. He never wakes up early- unlike me, I already put all my clothes in the wash and then I-“
She went on and praised herself, but got off topic and eventually started talking about a show she was watching.
“That’s so interesting I’m going to wake him up.” Kim Dokja quickly said before she went on another tangent.
He walked up to their room and noticed Shin Yoosung forgot to make her bed, and also forget to mention that in her list of morning accomplishments. On the other side of the room, Lee Gilyoung was still asleep. Kim Dokja gently tried to shake him awake. When that didn’t work he went directly to his last resort.
“YOOSUNG IS GOING TO EAT ALL THE PANCAKES.”
Lee Gilyoung sat upright immediately. “WHAT?”
“SHE’S ALREADY EATEN TEN YOU GOTTA GO.”
“HOW DID SHE EAT THAT MANY?”
“ARE YOU REALLY ASKING THAT?”
The boy panicked and rushed out of bed, looking for his clothes. He shrieked when he saw his wardrobe was full of Shin Yoosung’s clothes and she put his elsewhere.
“Ahjussi can you put her inside a box and leave her on the road?” He pleaded.
“No?”
“Can you put her inside a box with breathing holes and leave her on the road?”
“I’ll consider it but you need to get dressed. We’re going to the park later.”
His eyes lit up and he rushed to the bathroom. Kim Dokja walked down the hall into his small bedroom and went over to the baby cot, where Biyoo was staring at the cot mobile with wide eyes. It had little stars hanging down from it. She smiled when she saw her dad.
“Good morning Biyoo.” He said happily, freeing her from her swaddle. Her arms reached out excitedly as he picked her up, hugging her tightly. “We’re going to the park.”
“Baa.”
“I know but your sister really wanted to-“
“Baa!”
“I know it’s cold and it’s so much warmer in here but-“
“BAHAKSKAKA AAAAAAAA BAB BAB PHFFFTTTT.”
“You’re so right Biyoo”
He walked with her downstairs. He had intentionally adopted Biyoo as a baby a few months ago, but the other two just showed up and he still didn’t remember how that happened. Either way Biyoo liked them and he didn’t want to send them away either. He sat at the table and put her on her high chair to feed her. The other two kids were arguing about some game they were playing which Kim Dokja still didn’t understand. The only thing he picked up on was Shin Yoosung had to choose between Lee Gilyoung’s life and a cool sword, she chose the sword which resulting in killing Lee Gilyoung in game. The only way to bring him back was for Shin Yoosung to admit she regrets it. It’s been two weeks and he was still dead in the game.
“Can we go to the park now!” Shin Yoosung asked when she finished eating.
“Biyoo still needs to finish her food.” Kim Dokja struggled to get the baby to eat.
“Here I can do it!” Shin Yoosung grabbed the spoon and pretended it was an airplane to which Biyoo happily ate it.
“No you’re doing it wrong!” Lee Gilyoung walked over to the other end of the table. “You need to tell her she’s a caterpillar that needs to eat a lot to become a butterfly.” Biyoo smiled at her brother.
Shin Yoosung rolled her eyes. “Gilyoung, those are two different animals. You really don’t know much about bugs as you thought.”
“Is she being serious?” Kim Dokja muttered with concern.
Once Biyoo had finished, they put their coats on to head outside. The two kids rushed out the door while Kim Dokja put Biyoo’s coat on her, a fluffy white coat with a unicorn horn at the hood.
He put her in her stroller and walked outside with the other two, constantly reminding them to stay near him.
“When I get an A on my next test, I’ll be the favourite!” Shin Yoosung announced confidently.
“I don’t HAVE a favourite.” Kim Dokja said, exasperated.
“But I’m your favourite son?” Lee Gilyoung smiled at him.
“…Technically, yes- oh look we’re here!” He said quickly before another argument started.
Shin Yoosung placed a picnic blanket on the grass and set out Biyoo’s toys on it to play with her. Kim Dokja sat on the bench and watched to make sure Biyoo didn’t eat any rocks (again) while also making sure Lee Gilyoung didn’t wander off too far away. Fortunately he soon came to sit next to him with a caterpillar in his hands.
“Can I take it home?” He pleaded.
“But his family will miss him.”
“I’ll be his new family.” He watched the caterpillar crawl around his hands. “I’ll adopt him, I’ll be like you!”
Kim Dokja ruffled his hair.
On the other side of the park, Yoo Joonghyuk was walking his sister home, who did everything she could to stall the journey.
“Mia, you’re going to do your homework immediately when we get back.”
“But what if we absolutely can’t make it home?” She asked.
“And why wouldn’t we?”
“Because…” She spotted Shin Yoosung and Biyoo on the picnic blanket and rushed over to them, whispering to Shin Yoosung, “Can you pretend to be my friend please please please I’ll let you play with my toys.”
“Ok!”
They sat at the blanket together.
“Sorry oppa we can’t go home my friend will be so sad.”
“I will be so sad.” Shin Yoosung agreed.
Yoo Joonghyuk sighed and walked off to the side, letting her be for now. He heard a scream and saw a young boy getting frightened at a bird, huddling close to the man next to him.
“It’s okay, it’s gone now.” The man said, holding him to his side.
Yoo Joonghyuk sat on the bench next to them.
“He’s scared of birds but not bugs?” He asked.
“Hey bugs don’t scare people on purpose, but birds do.” The man argued, which made Yoo Joonghyuk already tired of the conversation. “Is that your daughter?” He gestured to Yoo Mia.
“No that’s my spoilt sister.”
“I heard that!” She huffed.
Lee Gilyoung continued playing with his caterpillar as the two chatted with each other. Although he’d throw glares at Yoo Joonghyuk every now and then, just as a warning.
Eventually he fell asleep, and Kim Dokja pulled his head onto his lap, taking his coat off to put over him like a blanket.
“You’re really affectionate with him.” Yoo Joonghyuk noted.
“He’s not my favourite.” Kim Dokja said quickly when he felt Shin Yoosung glare daggers at him. “And why wouldn’t I be? But sometimes it’s a problem. Sometimes I need to stop myself from hugging my baby so tightly until she pops.”
“You have a baby?”
He pointed at Biyoo in the picnic blanket, who was attempting to eat a rock.
“YOOSUNG!” Kim Dokja screamed, panicked. Shin Yoosung reacted and took the rock away from her.
“I didn’t even see her. She’s so small.” Yoo Joonghyuk said.
“You should’ve seen her a few months ago. She was so tiny.” Kim Dokja gushed.
“Are you the type of parent to show photos of their kid and talk about them for hours?”
“…Noooo.” Kim Dokja said, putting his phone back in his pocket.
They heard Biyoo start to cry as the wind got stronger.
“We should get going, Biyoo is getting fussy and Gilyoung is asleep.” Kim Dokja said to Shin Yoosung.
“Oh… fine.” She groaned, and tidied up.
Yoo Mia looked around panicked. If they left she’d have to go home with her brother and do her work. She needed to think of something. She grabbed Shin Yoosung and whispered,
“If you beg for us to come over to visit your house I will give you all my money.”
“AHJUSSI PLEASE CAN THEY COME WITH US!” Shin Yoosung begged.
“I mean, if it’s alright with you?” He asked Yoo Joonghyuk.
He wanted to say no but was getting wary at the way Shin Yoosung was staring at him so gave in and agreed. Yoo Mia happily held Shin Yoosung’s hand and they rushed down the park as if they really were friends. Kim Dokja put Biyoo in her stroller then picked up a sleeping Lee Gilyoung.
“Can you push Biyoo’s stroller?” He asked.
“Sure.” Yoo Joonghyuk only hoped the baby didn’t have the same glare the other two children had.
He walked alongside Kim Dokja, who was rambling about something, and Biyoo was staring at Yoo Joonghyuk with wide eyes but she wasn’t crying. He didn’t know what to make of it.
They arrived and Yoo Joonghyuk was surprised to see the house being a bit too small for all of them, but knew to not comment on it. Yoo Mia and Shin Yoosung went upstairs to play in her room. Kim Dokja set Lee Gilyoung down when he noticed the boy had woken up. He rubbed his eyes tiredly and looked around.
“Where’s the-“
Kim Dokja gave him a small jar which held the caterpillar. The boy happily sat on the kitchen table and stared at the little creature. Kim Dokja unbuckled Biyoo from her stroller and took off her coat, then told Yoo Joonghyuk to sit at the table so he can try his best to make food for him. He sat by Lee Gilyoung who was still staring at the caterpillar. Although when Kim Dokja went upstairs to put Biyoo to bed, Lee Gilyoung glared at Yoo Joonghyuk.
“What’s the matter with you kids?” Yoo Joonghyuk muttered.
“You’re trying to steal him away from us.” He accused.
“I don’t even want to be here-“
“And you’re using your little sister to get to him.” Lee Gilyoung went on, “You disgust me.”
“And the caterpillar doesn’t?”
Lee Gilyoung gasped, the most offended he’s ever been in his 11 years on Earth.
Kim Dokja returned to the kitchen, not noticing the silent battle the other two were having, and looked through his cupboards to see what he could work with.
“Ok do you want to drink the worst tea you’ll ever had or eat the worst soup you’ll ever had?” He asked Yoo Joonghyuk.
“I don’t eat food from other people.”
“Wow, egotistical much?” Kim Dokja smiled.
Yoo Joonghyuk got up and searched his cupboards. “Do you live on rations?” He said, appalled.
“Hey I have to buy baby food and feed two kids who have very different preferences, sorry there’s not much to work with.”
“And what do you eat?”
“…Uh…”
Yoo Joonghyuk sighed, annoyed. “Sit down.” He commanded, and began cooking something himself. Which was getting hard to do when Kim Dokja would speak up every 5 seconds.
“Gilyoung doesn’t like ketchup.”
“I don’t care, he’ll have to eat it or starve.”
“Oh come on you can’t force kids to eat things. I still don’t eat tomatoes.”
Yoo Joonghyuk stared at him. “Why?”
“Don’t like them.” He shrugged.
“That’s going to change.”
“What’s that suppose to mean?”
“Call the other two down.” Yoo Joonghyuk said as he plated the food. Kim Dokja huffed and did as told, not sure why he was listening to him.
He made them all omurice and Kim Dokja was half amazed and half jealous at how good it was.
“You’re letting him eat with that on the table?” Yoo Joonghyuk gestured to the caterpillar. Lee Gilyoung glared and held the jar closer to him.
“Oh come on it’s not doing anything.” Kim Dokja argued.
Yoo Mia giggled as she watched the two bicker.
“They’re acting like they’re married.” She whispered to the other two.
Shin Yoosung and Lee Gilyoung gasped offended, the most offended they’ve ever been in their 11 years on Earth.
“They would make the worst couple ever!” They argued.
Yoo Mia merely smiled, happy with the chaos she started.
When it got dark they eventually had to return home. Yoo Mia hugged Shin Yoosung sadly as Yoo Joonghyuk rolled his eyes at her theatrics.
“Come on, Mia.”
“You wouldn’t get it oppa, you have no friends.”
He pulled her away and took her outside.
“I DON’T WANNA DO MY HOMEWORK!” She cried as he dragged her down the street.
“Goodbye!” Kim Dokja called out, holding Biyoo with one arm and waving with the other. He pouted when Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t even turn back to acknowledge him.
“I hope they never come back.” Lee Gilyoung said.
“I hope he never comes back.” Shin Yoosung said.
“Baa.” Biyoo said.
