Work Text:
It was early in the morning, and Sawyer had just woken up, somehow in more pain than the day before. Probably because he slept on his back with two broken ribs, but who knows? He sighed, winced in pain, and sat up, slowly and torturously.
After managing to pull himself off of his rock bed, Sawyer popped his neck and exited the med-cave (the name Sawyer had given the sub cave Jack did all of his medical stuff in). He wanted to go down to the beach for a swim, but Sawyer remembered what Jack had said:
“Don’t go down to the beach without me.”
Sawyer groaned, desperately wanting to disobey Jack’s orders (which, Sawyer still thought were ridiculous), but decided against it, mostly because of the intense pain he was in. Swimming probably wasn’t the best idea at the moment, let alone walking a mile. He settled for just hanging around the caves all day.
He took a seat by the little pond in the cave, wondering where Jack was. Not like Sawyer actually cared, it just would’ve sucked if he got eaten by a wild animal or something.
while sitting down, Sawyer saw Boone and Shannon run into the caves. The pair looked distressed, Boone more so than Shannon.
Sawyer shifted his position to face the pair more, and leaned back, bracing his hands on the edge of the rock he was sitting on.
“Hey there, sweetheart,” Sawyer said, directing it to Shannon. “What’s got you and your brother in such a hurry?”
Boone stepped in front of Shannon and furrowed his brows at Sawyer. “Someone stole Shannon’s inhalers. We were trying to find Jack to get him to help look for them. Do you know where he is?”
Sawyer shook his head. “Sorry, haven’t seen him all morning. Try your luck somewhere else, kid.” He rolled his neck and gave the two a sad smile.
“Oh, Jack? He’s down at the beach,” Charlie called from off the side, playing his guitar. “Sayid got injured during the whole flare thing.”
Boone sighed a sigh of relief. “Thanks, Charlie.” He grabbed Shannon’s wrist and they exited as quickly as they entered.
Sawyer shot Charlie a curious glance. He seemed to be in better spirits than the last time Sawyer had seen him.
“You seem all nice an’ happy,” Sawyer started. “What’s all that business ‘bout a ‘flare’?” He placed his elbows on his knees, clasping his hands together in front of him.
“Oh, it’s a long bloody story, let me tell ya.” Charlie shifted on the rock ground, setting his guitar down on the ground next to him. “So, first, Sayid and some of the others went out on a hike to try and get a signal from the transceiver from the plane, which me, Jack, an’ Kate got from the front end of it deep in the forest. Then, we got this damn creepy broadcast message from this French woman that had been playing on repeat for sixteen years. Sixteen years, mate! Anyways, Sayid wanted to find the location of the signal, so he built these antennas and got Boone and Kate to help him set them up. Then, as rumor has it, some bloke hit him over the head! Knocked him right unconscious.”
Sawyer’s eyes went wide. Out of everything Charlie just said, he maybe understood two percent of it.
“Are you high or something, man?” Sawyer asked, only half-joking, which is why he was confused when Charlie glared daggers at him and shifted away so he wasn’t looking at Sawyer anymore. He went back to playing his guitar.
Sawyer rolled his eyes. He had nobody to talk to, and the only person who was now seemed to be ignoring him. “Fine, be like that. I’m gonna go.”

Sawyer and Jessica lay together in bed, after a lazy afternoon spent in each other’s arms. Jessica smiles at Sawyer, scooting closer to him.
“You’re incredible, Sawyer,” Jessica mumbles right against Sawyer’s ear, placing a gentle kiss there.
Sawyer rolls his eyes fondly, wrapping his arms around her waist. “I love you. Look at you. What do you want, right now?”
Jessica closes her eyes, smiling softly. “How could I want anything else?”
She then opens her eyes and glances at the clock, and suddenly her face falls. “Oh, uh-oh, baby.”
Sawyer gives her a confused look. “Oh, what.” He pulls back slightly, resting on his back, looking at Jessica. She props herself up on her elbow to look at him. ”I thought you had a meeting.”
Sawyer sighs, moving back to hold her. “Yeah, but it’s not until 3:30.”
Jessica proceeds to push him away slightly. “Baby, it’s 3:28.”
Sawyer’s eyes go wide as he quickly scrambles out of bed, grabbing his boxers and clumsily stepping into them. “Damn it. Damn it. Baby, why don’t you just, uh…” He continues to get dressed quickly, now moving on to buttoning up his shirt.
Jessica shakes her head, scooting back to sit up against the pillows. “No, just go. You go, okay, I’ll stay here — order room service, get fat.” She gives Sawyer a wolffish smile, leaning forward on her elbows.
Sawyer returns the smile, rolling his shoulders back as he pulls his pants up. “Why don’t you order a chocolate sundae - when I get back, I’ll use you as a dish.”
That comment elicits a small laugh from Jessica as Sawyer moves to grab the briefcase from the top of the armoire. He fumbles it, though, and it spills open on the ground, money falling out in the hundreds. He looks at Jessica, who is staring at the money, wide-eyed. Sawyer gives her a mildly sheepish look, and turns to face her fully.
“You weren’t exactly supposed to see that.”

Sawyer stepped out of the caves, looking up and breathing in the fresh air. In a very, very careful way, though- he didn’t want to aggravate his chest even further. He spotted that bag from yesterday, the one with the mango in it, and decided to hell with it. Sawyer approached it again, and peered inside. Darn. No fruit. A shame, but Sawyer could deal.
He closed the bag again and went back into the caves.
”Hey, music man. You know where the grub is?”
Charlie glanced up, stopping his playing once again. “Uh, yeah. There’s a cooler down the right. The green one is water, blue one is food.” He went back to playing, looking down intently.
Sawyer hummed in acknowledgement, and began walking away. He patted Charlie on the shoulder as he walked by. “Thanks, man.”
Charlie gave no response, which Sawyer expected. He walked down the right and immediately saw the coolers, although with the lack of light entering this part of the caves, he had to guess which one was the food cooler. It was a 50/50 shot, and leaning forward couldn’t hurt that bad, right?
Wrong.
Sawyer’s chest felt like it was collapsing in on itself for the split second he was bent over, and he reached into the cooler he opened and snatched a- you guessed it- a mango out of it. He shot back up and immediately slumped against the cave wall, eyes shut tight.
“Fuck,” Sawyer muttered under his breath. All this hassle for one lousy mango. He held off on taking a bite out of it, though, so he could get up and find a more comfortable place to sit and enjoy his breakfast-lunch-dinner. Because unless Jack came back to the caves anytime soon so Sawyer could ask him to get food, Sawyer was not going through that again. Who knew ribs were such a pain in the ass to break?
————
After making his way out to the main part of the caves and sitting down where he was before, Sawyer took a bite out of his hard-earned meal. Whilst eating the mango, Sawyer regretted all of his missed opportunities to be eating this surprisingly delicious fruit back home. If he ever gets rescued, mangoes are taking the number-one spot on his food list.
Or whatever.
About twenty minutes later, Sawyer finished his mango and glanced up to see Charlie giving him a weird look. Sawyer glared at him.
“What? Got a problem with a man eating his mango?”
Charlie’s eyes went wide and he quickly shook his head, going back to his guitar. “No sir.”
“Good.”
Sawyer resided to fiddling with the mango seed in his hand, when Boone ran into the cave, looking pissed off. Sawyer gave him a friendly nod but immediately wanted to take it back when Boone shoved him into the pond. A flash of hot, blinding pain went through Sawyer’s chest and fuck that water is deep. He choked on the water, some of it going into his lungs. He was in too much pain to pull himself up, but luckily a pair of hands grabbed his and pulled him up and out of the water, getting him to the ground.
Sawyer was heaving and panting for air, not even caring about how much it hurt his chest, because he was pretty sure Boone just tried to kill him.
Jack kneeled down next to Sawyer, causing Sawyer to realize that it was Jack who pulled him out of the water.
Times Jack has saved Sawyer’s life: 2.
Times Sawyer has saved Jack’s life? 0. Sawyer really needed to step his game up.
“Sawyer, are you okay-“ Jack started.
“Okay? Okay? The bastard just tried to kill me!” Sawyer carefully got to his feet, getting up into Boone’s personal space. “Now what the actual hell was that for, huh?” Sawyer shoved Boone’s chest, causing him to stumble backwards a few steps.
”You stole Shannon’s inhalers! I know you did!” Boone stepped back up to Sawyer, glaring at him.
Now that caused Sawyer to get real confused. “I didn’t steal her damn inhalers. Why in the hell do you think it was me?”
Boone’s expression faltered for a half-second, but quickly recovered. “Hurley and Michael both told me they saw you going through her bag. You’re the only one who could have them, Sawyer! “
”Well, I don’t!” Sawyer yelled, moving to take another step forward, but Jack grabbed his arm, holding him back. Jack was also glaring at Boone.
“Look, Sawyer didn’t take Shannon’s inhalers,” Jack stated.
Boone looked at him incredulously. “And how can you know that? He could be lying!”
“I know because he’s severely injured and even if he needed an inhaler, it would put him in more pain than just waiting it out! And also, keep in mind that Sawyer was unconscious for our first week on the island and doesn’t know the first thing about any of us. So what reason would he have to steal some inhalers from your sister?” Jack took a step closer, standing next to Sawyer. He dropped his hand from Sawyer’s arm, instead choosing to cross them over his chest.
Boone sighed in frustration, taking a step back himself. “I guess that makes sense. But still, why did you go through her bag, man? And were her inhalers in there?”
Sawyer shrugged his shoulders, also crossing his arms over his chest. “It was unprotected out in the open and I got curious. Took a mango. And yeah, her inhalers were in there.” Sawyer just so happened to leave out that he went through her bag again earlier and that Shannon’s inhalers were not in there that time.
Boone gave Sawyer a look before walking away, wordlessly. Jack sighed and sat down on the rock next to where Sawyer was sitting on the ground. Sawyer looked up at Jack, resting his elbows on the rock. “You really gotta stop savin’ my life, doc.”
Jack smirked in response and glanced down at sawyer through the corner of his eyes. “Kind of my job though, isn’t it? Saving people?”
Sawyer shrugged, looking forward. “Guess so. Just try saving someone else next time, ‘kay?” He glanced back up at Jack, who was still looking at him.
“Maybe.”
--------
Jessica glares at Sawyer. What was he doing with all of this money? “You told me you were going to Baton Rouge to close a deal.”
Sawyer groans, rubbing a hand over his face before looking back at Jess. “Just trust me, there isn’t any time to explain. I’m already late. I miss this meeting, the whole deal’s a bust, alright? That’s everything I have. $140,000. There’s an oil mining operation in the Gulf of Mexico - drilling platforms $300,000 buys one share, but as soon as you invest a Government sponsored fund kicks in and triples your money in two weeks. Triples it.” While he was saying all of this, Sawyer was trying to stuff all of the money back into the briefcase.
Jessica’s eyes went wide at Sawyer’s words. “300,000?”
Sawyer looks up at her, closing the briefcase. “Yeah.”
She frowns slightly in confusion. “You’ve got 140.”
Sawyer stood up, brushing the dust off of his pants and picking up the suitcase. “I found an investor in Toronto - wants in 50/50. In two weeks we’ll be splitting almost a million bucks. Jess, this is my chance.”
Jessica sits all the way up, resting her head on her hand. “There’s another option.”
Sawyer sighs. “Yeah, and what’s that?”
“That I give you the 160,000 and we split the profit.”
Sawyer scoffs. “Yeah, and how in the hell are you going to scare up 160,000 bucks?”
Jessica smirks. “My husband.”
--------
Sawyer was sitting against a tree, a decent distance away from the caves. He pulled out his letter, worn and yellow with time.
Dear Mr. Sawyer, you don't know who I am, but I know who you are, and I know what you done. You had sex with my mother and then you stole my dad's money all away. So he got angry, and he killed my mother. And then he killed himself too. All I know is your name. But one of these days, I'm gonna find you and I'm gonna give you this letter, so you remember what you done to me. You killed my parents, Mr. Sawyer.
He read it a few times over in his head, remembering hiding under the bed while his mom and dad argued outside of his room. He remembered his dad walking in, sitting down on Sawyer’s bed, and shooting himself in the head. He remembered the blood pooling on the ground.
He remembered the fear.
After a few minutes of self-pity, Sawyer clenched the letter tight in his hand before neatly folding it back up and placing it back in his pocket. He stood up, using the tree for support, and made his way back into the caves to get some water, hoping that Jack was in the caves to grab some for him, when he saw Shannon slumped against the cave walls, hyperventilating- or, well, trying to. Boone was trying to get her to calm down.
“Just try to breathe. Breath. Come on, Shann, work with me.” Boone placed his hands on his sister’s shoulders, trying to steady her. It wasn’t working.
Jack was standing nearby, rifling through the scavenged medicine from the plane. He approached Sawyer, a look on his face Sawyer hadn’t seen before.
“Sawyer, I swear to god if you lied to me about taking Shannon’s inhalers--”
Sawyer furrowed his brows at Jack. “I didn’t lie, Jack. I didn’t take her damn inhalers. Now do you believe me or not?” He took a step closer to Jack, getting face to face with him. Jack sighed looking off to the side.
“I believe you. I have believed you. We just have no idea where they are and Shannon is suffering, Sawyer.” Jack looked back at Shannon, who’s breathing seemed to be getting worse as the time goes by.
“I know that. I can see that. But what do you want me to do, Jack? Magic up some inhalers for the girl? I’m not a damn wizard!” Sawyer frowned again, but took a step back.
Jack rubbed a hand over his face (Sawyer noted that it seemed to be his nervous habit, or something like that) and drew his lips into a line. “I wasn’t asking you to do that. I just need to know: do you have any idea where her inhalers could be.”
Sawyer shook his head, crossing his arms. “I don’t got no clue where her inhalers are, Jack. Can’t help ya.”
Jack nodded his head, jaw clenched. “Okay. Thanks anyways. Now I need to go make sure that she doesn’t suffocate, so go do whatever it was you were going to do. I’m busy.”
Sawyer nodded his head, but Jack didn’t see it because he had already walked over to Shannon. Water mission forgotten, Sawyer leaned against the cave wall opposite of Jack and Shannon, watching everything happen.

Sawyer sits down at the restaurant with Jessica and David in his best suit that he had bought with some of the money. The three of them talk for a few minutes, and then Sawyer clasps his hands together on the table, looking right at David.
“I’m not sure this is such a good idea,” Sawyer says, his best serious face on.
“Why not?” Jessica asks innocently.
Sawyer speaks again, still looking at David. “Because business between friends is always a little sticky. I don’t know you well, but I know your wife. Working with her at the auto dealership, I’m just not sure I’m comfortable.”
David gives Sawyer a questioning look. “Louisiana will invest two-thirds of the drilling costs. What is this? A loophole?” He leans forward in his seat.
In response to David’s look, Sawyer smiles softly. “Look, David, you’re reluctant. I get it. You got your lumbar yard, you don’t need this.” Sawyer could tell that David would need some reverse psychology to get him to agree.
Jessica looks at her husband, grasping his hand. “You should do this.”
David frowns at Jessica. “Jess. I don’t even know the guy,” He half-whispers.
Jess looks at Sawyer, motioning with her head to the briefcase. “Show him the cash.”
Sawyer nods, grabbing the briefcase and pulling it up to his lap, opening it slightly to show David the money. He flashes David a charming smile, but David isn’t buying it. Crap.
“How do I know this is real?” David asks, leaning back in his seat.
“The money?” Sawyer needs to think quickly here. “Hell, how about you hold on to it for a night. Check it out. I want you to feel secure.” A pause. Sawyer knows just how to go about the rest of this.
“You know what? Let’s not do this. I’ve got another investor who’s already committed.” Sawyer pulls 300 out of the briefcase before shutting it.
Jessica looks at David expectantly. “David?” David just glares slightly at Sawyer.
Sawyer places the 300 dollars on the table, standing up. “This should cover lunch. And I’ll see you Monday,” He says to Jessica. “David.” He gives the man a small nod before walking away.
“David?” Jessica asks, a bit more urgent this time.
David sighs, relenting. He stands up and looks at Sawyer. “Wait.”
Sawyer stops and turns back around, smiling to himself.
--------
Sawyer found himself watching Jack more than Shannon. She wasn’t doing anything interesting besides not breathing, and besides. Jack was the one saving the lives here. Sawyer squinted his eyes as he watched Jack.
“Shannon, listen to me. Look at me, look at me. You need to listen now. This isn’t just the asthma, it’s anxiety. It’s in your head,” Jack said, speaking in an authoritative tone to try to get through to Shannon in her panicked state.
Shannon shook her head violently, eyes shut tight. “No,” she managed to mutter between short, thin breaths.
Jack tightened his grip on Shannon’s shoulders. “Yes. You know that your medicine’s run out and you’re panicking. Shannon, Shannon, look at me. We can fight this together, okay? Nod your head, Shannon.” She did. “Good. Breathe in through-”
Boone crossed his arms, glaring down at Jack and also at Sawyer, who was still staring at Jack and didn’t see the look Boone was giving him.
“She needs her inhaler,” Boone said, looking at Sawyer while he said it.
Jack glared at Boone, telling him to shut up with his eyes. He turned his attention back to Shannon. “Breathe in through your nose, slowly.”
Shannon began to breathe heavily through her mouth, and Jack shook his head. “No, no, no. In through the nose, like this. You can do this, Shannon. You can do it. In through the nose.”
Shannon finally listened to Jack and began to take slow, shallow breaths through her nose, though she was still panicked, she was beginning to calm down.
Jack smiled softly at her, and Sawyer wondered why Jack rarely smiled. Maybe he just didn’t like to, like Sawyer. Or maybe there was a different reason.
Sawyer continued to watch Jack as he urged Shannon to take deep breaths and giving her words of praise as she did. Sawyer didn’t like that and he didn’t know why.

Sawyer is at a bar with Kilo, in the middle of a casual pool game. Kilo pauses the game momentarily to talk to Sawyer.
“Tell me Sawyer, do you want to die? Because when a man walks in my place and tells me he left a 160,000 of my hard won dollars in the care of a civilian, I’ve got to ask myself if what I’m hearing isn’t the desperate cry for the sweet release of death.” Kilo leans forward against the pool table, smirking at Sawyer.
Sawyer gives Kilo a cocky smile, also leaning against the pool table. “Deal closed today. See, women are easy - a few cosmos, a couple of stunts they haven’t seen between the sheets, and they think the scam’s their idea. Now husbands, they need to touch the money, smell it - believe that if they had the brass to put that suitcase in the trunk of their family sedan and speed away, they just might have a chance at being an honest-to-gosh outlaw.”
Kilo gives Sawyer an approving nod, and smiles at him again. “Okay, Tex. You got your grift so pat, what’d you need my money for? Where’s your seed from the last couple you roped?”
Sawyer stands straight up, leaning back against the wall and crossing his arms over his chest. He gives Kilo a sheepish smile. “Well, what can I say? I like earning it as much as I like spending it,” He states.
Kilo points a finger at Sawyer, standing straight up, too, and resuming the game. “Be that as it may, I know a thing or two about making people suffer. Now you have my money, plus 50%, by noon tomorrow or I’ll tell you all about it.”
--------
After all of the excitement, Sawyer walked over to Jack to acquire about his long-awaited water. He tapped Jack on the shoulder, who was in the middle of a conversation with Sayid.
Jack turned around, an annoyed look on his face. “What do you want--” He paused when he saw that it was Sawyer, and he gave Jack a smirk.
“Damn, doc, didn’t have to be so mean about that, did’ya? Just wanted to ask if you could grab me some water.” Sawyer placed a hand on his hip, looking at Jack expectantly.
Jack frowned. “What? Can’t you grab it yourself?”
Sawyer felt both Jack’s and Sayid’s eyes on him. Damnit. He was hoping that Jack would just agree without question, but in hindsight, that was a longshot. Sawyer really didn’t want to admit that he was in too much pain to grab it himself, especially in front of Sayid.
“Well, I mean- it just-” Sawyer sighed, and crossed his arms over his chest. “Look, can you or can’t you?”
Jack glanced back at Sayid, and then back at Sawyer. He nodded his head and walked away, motioning Sawyer to follow him.
Jack grabbed Sawyer a bottle of water, and handed it to him, their hands brushing together briefly. Jack turned back to close the cooler, and talked to Sawyer as he did so.
“It’s because of your ribs, isn’t it?”
Sawyer paused, the water bottle at his lips. He dropped it from his mouth and screwed the cap back on. “Don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Jack looked back at Sawyer, sitting on top of the cooler. He patted the cooler next to him, motioning for Sawyer to sit next to him, which he did.
“Don’t lie to me, Sawyer.”
Sawyer scoffed, glancing at Jack. “What, because you’re my doctor?”
Jack shook his head, giving Sawyer a serious look. “No, because I don’t like people who lie to me. And the doctor thing, too.”
Sawyer paused for a moment, glancing away from Jack. He sighed, and took a quick sip of water before answering.
“Fine. Yeah. It’s cuz of my damn ribs, okay? They hurt like hell today and I didn’t wanna aggravate ‘em. I was hoping you wouldn’t ask questions. But guess that was stupid to think.” Sawyer frowned at the wall, not letting himself make eye contact with Jack. He felt embarrassed for being so weak next to a person who seemed so strong, at least to Sawyer. He would never admit it out loud, though.
A few seconds later, Sawyer grew the balls to look at Jack, who was…smiling at him? Sawyer sneered at Jack. “What, you gonna make fun of me or being in pain or something?”
Jack chuckled softly, looking forward. “No. I appreciate you telling me, is all. Not many guys are willing to admit something like that.”
That made Sawyer feel happy inside, although he (again) would never admit it. He liked being the center of praise, even if what Jack said wasn’t necessarily praise. He smiled a crooked smile at Jack.
“Well, you’re welcome, doc. Just say the word and I’ll spill all my emotions.”
Jack laughed, louder this time, before standing up. “Come on, let’s go. I should probably check on Shannon.” He extends a hand out for Sawyer to grasp, but Sawyer grabs his wrist instead to help pull him up. He’s not big on the hand-holding, for any reason.
After getting to his feet, Sawyer gave Jack an appreciative nod. “Thanks,” He mumbled, walking out of the cave behind Jack.
--------
Sawyer stands in the middle of Jessica’s living room, smiling at her and at David. He grasps the briefcase’s handle tightly.
“Alrighty. It looks like we’re in the oil business,” He says, smiling a toothy smile.
David, still cautious of this whole thing, gives Sawyer a curious look. “We’re cool?”
Sawyer nods his head. “Oh, we’re cool.”
“We’ll get the money back?” David asks.
Another head nod from Sawyer. “Week from tomorrow, tripled.”
“You’re not going to skip town, are you?” David questions, concerned.
Jessica rolls her eyes, placing a hand on her husband’s knee. “David, for god’s sake, he left all his money with us. We could’ve skipped town.”
Sawyer smiles at Jessica. “Smart woman you got there, David. Don’t let her go.”
At that moment, a small boy runs into the room, looking expectantly at Jessica. She looks back and smiles at the kid. “Hi, baby. What’re you doing up? Are you feeling better?”
“Will you read to me?” The boy asks.
“In a minute, sweetheart. We have company right now.”
The boy’s face falls, and Sawyer nearly freezes. Flashes of his own father- what he did- went through his mind rapidly. He suddenly realizes he was ruining this family, ruining this boy’s life, just like Sawyer’s. No. No. He can’t do this. He won’t do this-
David furrows his brows, looking at Sawyer. “You okay?”
Sawyer shakes his head, dropping the briefcase. “Deal’s off.”
“Excuse me?” David asks, incredulously.
“Deal’s off. Forget it,” Sawyer repeats. He begins to walk away.
“What are you doing?” Jess calls, trying to get Sawyer not to leave.
David scowls at Sawyer, standing up. “Hold on, what is this, a joke?” He begins to approach Sawyer, who stops and looks at David, glaring at him.
“I’m calling it off, walking away.” Sawyer turns back around and was about to continue walking when David calls out to him yet again.
“You’re not walking out of here. You know what I had to do for this? All this money in one day?!” David shouts, gesticulating wildly with his hands before placing his hand on Sawyer’s shoulder.
Sawyer pushes David’s hand off of him, his face darkening further. “Take your hand off me, boy,” he mutters, barely audible.
Jessica stands up, looking at Sawyer with a look both angry and upset. “Sawyer?”
David turns to his wife, now glaring at her. “What’s going on here?” he asks .
Jess runs a hand through her hair, eyes wide. “This isn’t how it was supposed to work. You said that we were-!” She stops before she says too much.
David takes a short, deep breath, and approaches his wife. “Said? What’d he say, Jessica?”
And with that, Sawyer takes his opportunity to leave and exits the door as fast as he could.
————
Jack and Sawyer went out to the main part of the caves to see Sun putting some sort of paste on Shannon. Sawyer cocked an eyebrow, wondering what in the hell that was.
“You got any clue what that Korean chick is putting on the girl?” He asked, glancing at Jack.
“Eucalyptus,” Jack muttered, walking away from Sawyer and going over to Boone, who looked both confused and happy.
“I don’t know. It’s a miracle. She just showed up with that mixture. She rubbed it on Shannon’s chest and 10 minutes later she was breathing.”
Sawyer half-smiled, looking at Sun and Shannon. Sure, yeah, it was good and all that Shannon was better, but she looked fucking hilarious at the moment, with all the eucalyptus paste over her. Sawyer had to actively work not to laugh, which he totally would have if Jack wasn’t in the room.
He glanced over at Jack one last time, just to look at him. There was something about him that seemed to draw Sawyer in, and he couldn’t tell if he liked that or not. Jack then glanced over, and the pair made eye contact for a moment before Jack looked away, resuming his conversation with Boone.
Good man, Sawyer thought to himself.
Good man.
