Feelings are a new thing for Castiel.
Maybe New isn't the right word. They were there before he Fell, he just ignored them. They were easy to ignore then, now the are bigger then they ever were.
His Father made them with the purpose of helping, guiding, and protecting humanity. He has always taken that job a seriously as possible, even when his brothers and sisters would look down on him for it because humans are imperfect.
