Chapter 1: The Visit

Summary:

UNIT has a special visitor.

Chapter Text

The Doctor, luckily, was there when the being arrived. More like presented itself. Directly in the atrium of U.N.I.T tower. The closest building to the heavens in England, taller than all the others. A part of Kate Lethbridge-Stewart liked it that way, but the sense of her that was very into realism, also knew that it separated them from the public. Which, honestly, and Kate could admit it as well, wasn’t actually a good thing. It gave an air of superiority that the people rallied against once before, until they saw the good that UNIT could do, something that couldn’t be explained away as movie props and special effects.

Flapping wings and a few feathers fly from the beautiful woman as she hovers, taking in the sight before her. Guns drawn from the soldiers in black uniforms and padding. She doesn’t like guns. Her white cloth dress hugs in all the right places, bearing flesh, and adorned with golden accents. She’s breathtakingly beautiful.

“Oh, hello.” The Doctor grins, sensing the confusion from the being as he slowly makes his way closer to her. He studies the headdress and the slim build of the woman. Her clay colored wings flap slowly. “I’m the Doctor.” The man waves a hand, doing a spin to indicate that he’s speaking about the rest of the room, “these are all my friends.” He nods a little, doing his best to remain positive, “with whom do I have the honor of speaking?”

The being seems taken aback, ever so slightly offended. “I should cast you down where you stand, mortal.”

“Oi! Who are you calling a mortal?” The Doctor raises an eyebrow, scowling playfully, “not quite.”

“Isis.” Melanie Bush murmurs, standing from her desk and nearing the Doctor cautiously, “I..I’ve been obsessed with Egypt and its mythology for as long as I can remember.” She starts to kneel, more so as a sign of respect than anything, “it is truly an honor, goddess.” Traveling with the Doctor, there was never any telling what one may encounter. This being no exception.

A pleased smirk flashes in the corner of Isis’ mouth, seeing as others near her. “I am not to be feared, but also not to be trifled with.” She continues, “I have arrived after being summoned.” Her wings continue to flap slowly, one might even say elegantly.

“Summoned?” The Doctor furrows his brow, furrowing his brow, “do you know by whom?” He’s intrigued, tilting his head to the side ever so slightly. He hears the common gait of Kate Lethbridge-Stewart making her way up to the front of the room to stand next to him.

Isis shakes her head slowly, “I know not.”

“Ah.” The Doctor nods, understanding as he looks around the room. “What were the words that were used, goddess?” He notices Kate waving a hand to indicate her order to the soldiers in the room to lower their weapons from his peripheral vision.

Humming as she nods, Isis slowly floats down to the same level as the other people in front of her. She keeps them at a slight distance, not wanting to risk them contaminating her in some way with their touch. Not again, she tells herself. “I do not need to answer your questions.”

“No, of course you don’t. However, I wish to help you as much as possible.” The Doctor explains, “Kate, meet the Goddess Isis. Goddess Isis, meet my niece Kate.” He glances over at the woman he had just mentioned, “the Goddess Isis states that someone requested her presence here. I’ve let her know that we’d be happy to help guide her.”

“I do not require guidance.” Isis scowls slightly, her wings magically disappear into her back, turning into what appear to be tattoos on her skin. “I also do not enjoy games, Doctor.”

“Of course not, my apologies.” The Doctor gives a solemn nod, slowly dropping to one knee from his place between Mel and Kate, “how might I be of assistance?” He isn’t sure why she doesn’t like him, but he’ll do what is necessary to hear an answer from her.

Kate gives a quick glance, slowly preparing to lower herself to kneel next to the Doctor and Mel. She doesn’t quite understand what’s happening.

“No, no. You stand.” Isis watches Kate, a subtle smile forming in the corner of her mouth, “this man likes to talk, but I get the impression that you are in charge here.” The word man is almost said as a gag, “I like that.” Isis takes a few steps closer, “do you know what I am the goddess of?”

Kate manages to keep her wits about her, despite the subtle glow illuminating from the goddess’ skin, “not off the top of my head, ma’am, I apologize.”

“She does.” Isis motions to Mel with a sweeping wave of her hand, glancing over at the redhead, “well?”

“Motherhood, fertility, magic, marriage, healing, protection...among others.” Mel mutters, almost afraid to pick her head up, afraid to look at the goddess in front of her. She’s read too much about her, read too much about her history and legend.

“Very good.” Isis starts to smile more, “so, when someone calls upon me, I expect to be answered.” She shrugs, returning her attention back to Kate.

“Of course.” Kate nods, swallowing, “what was it that someone requested your presence regarding?” She pauses, lifting her eyes to the supernatural being in front of her, “I can assist you in pinpointing the requester. It might have been one of our lower soldiers and-”

“No, I am a very busy woman, niece Kate.” Isis closes her eyes for a moment, hand placed on Kate's belly, then opens them again, “it is done.”

Furrowing her brow, Kate watches her in confusion, “what is done?” When the goddess’ wings appear again at her back and flap open, shooting her immediately into the air, Kate watches closely. Honestly, it’s a glorious sight, something she’s never seen before and will probably never see again.

“If I can not bless the one, I will bless everyone in this house.” Isis nods, smiling a bit more. “Those who have not used honey and acacia will soon know.” With her final words and the opening of the bay doors, she gracefully glides over top of the desks and other staff, taking her leave with a dive from the building.

“What in the hell was that?” Kate shakes her head a little, still not understanding fully. Reaching a hand out, she assists the Doctor in standing, who in turn assists Mel to stand after. “Honey and acacia? Anyone know the significance of that?”

“It was used as a contraceptive in ancient Egypt.” Mel brushes her hands over her trousers, pushing the dust from her knees before standing straight up and looking at her Commander.

Kate nearly jumps when the Doctor starts to laugh, hard and harder still. Scowling in confusion at the man, “what is it?”

“If I were you, I’d start building a U.N.I.T creche.” The Doctor grins broadly, his voice lowering to a whisper as he leans over to her, “there’s something in the water now, Katie.” He winks, casually just returning to the desk where he was sitting previously. The Doctor leans back in the seat and lifts his feet to rest his heels on the desk in front of him, folding his legs at the ankles.
