MAC AND RILEY’S HOME, LATE IN THE EVENING... TODAY HAS BEEN A ROUGH DAY...
After a long 48 hours in Tokyo, Japan - for a OP with Desi and Russ protecting a government diplomat from assassins hired by the Yakuza; a completely emotionally drained and exhausted Mac and Riley finally walked into their home.
Neither had said anything on the drive home. They just sat in silence as Mac drove and Riley stared out the window.
Mac had took a few quick glances here and there at his girlfriend to see if she was ok but Riley just kept looking out to the city.
Once inside; Riley put her backpack down on the floor to the nearest wall and then started to take off her jacket.
She knew she couldn’t leave it there but she didn’t have the strength to put away where it usually goes, right now.
And Mac knew that too. He could see it through her body language.
He followed suite and took his jacket off as well, hanging it up alongside her’s.
Mac watched his girlfriend remain still, not even looking at him. He wasn’t sure what to say to her or how to make her feel better but he had to break the silence between them.
“Riles... please, look at me.” He said quietly, almighty sending a chill down her spine.
She kept looking forward and said nothing.
Mac took a deep breath before trying again.
“Riley, do want to talk about it ? Is there anything I can get you...” Mac says before Riley quickly turned around and wrapped her arms around him - burying her head into his neck.
It caught Mac by surprise for a second but he soon wrapped his arms around her back and held her tight.
“Hey, hey, it’s ok. I’m still here. We’re both still here.” He whispered into her ear, as Riley let a small tear run down her face.
A few minutes later; Mac handed Riley a cold beer and joined her on the couch, who had put her legs and feet up on it and was leaning her back against the arm rest.
“Thanks.” Riley says, with a small smile as Mac sat down on the opposite side of the couch, taking a sip of his own drink.
The two remained quiet for a minute - Mac tapping the beer bottle with his fingers while Riley just looked down at her hands.
Mac kinda wished he had some paper clips nearby and make something with him.
Keep his mind focused on something else. But he knew it wasn’t the right time. He and Riley needed to talk about the mission.
“This was too close, Mac. Like really too close. You almost died.” Riley says, looking up at him.
“I know.” He replies, turning slowly to face her.
“I mean... if that sniper shot had been 2 inches closer to the left and hit you in the head, that would have been it. You would be gone and I... I would have lost everything. My whole world gone, in a instant.” Riley says, slightly shaking her head in disbelief.
“It didn’t happen though.” Mac adds.
“I know that. But the idea of losing you... living in a world without you in it... that scares me. More than anything, Mac. And that almost became a reality.” Riley tells him.
“I feel the exact same way about you, Riles. I used to think that dying alone was even worse than actually just dying. But it’s not anymore. It’s losing you. That’s my worst nightmare. I know it because I almost lived through it, last year.” Mac reveals.
“What do you mean ?” She asks.
Mac sighed as he put his drink down the coffee table in front of them, as did Riley - before Mac turned completely to face her.
“When you left the Phoenix last year to do your undercover assignment in stopping the nanotrackers, I wasn’t in a good place. All I knew at the time was that you had to go do something without me or the team helping you. And I would understand why later on when you came back and told me the truth. But during that whole week that you were gone, I was... well, to put it lightly... fucking terrified, Riley.” Mac tells her.
“Mac...” She beings to say before Mac stops her.
“No, I do get why you had to do it. Why Matty gave you the assignment and only let Sara and Brooklyn watch your back. You were saving life’s, Riley. Mine included by stopping the nanotrackers for good. And I will be forever grateful and proud of you for doing that. But during that week... not knowing where you were, what you were doing... if you were still alive... that terrified me.” Mac says, while Riley stays quiet.
He reaches out to her hand and holds it - interlocking his fingers with hers.
“You and me... we both have everything to lose when it comes to this job. Even more so now than ever, since we started dating last year. You’re my whole world, Riley. I can’t lose you.” Mac says, being sincere.
“I can’t lose you, either.” Riley replies, wiping a tear with her other hand.
“You won’t.” Mac tells her.
“You can’t promise that.” Riley hits back.
Mac takes a deep breath and slowly nods at her.
“No... I can’t. Neither of us can. But what we can both promise to each other is that we will both try our best to make it home, together. It’s all we can do.” Mac says.
“Yeah.” Riley agrees with a small smile.
“Come here.” Mac whispers as the two embrace, share a quick kiss and hug.
“I love you, Riley Davis.” Mac says.
“Love you too, Angus MacGyver.” Riley replies.
The two stay in each other’s embrace for a few minutes, before eventually letting go and share a quiet chuckle, as Mac uses to his finger gently to wipe away another tear from Riley’s face.
“We’re not exactly a normal couple, are we ?” Riley says, to lighten the mood.
“No, we definitely aren’t. But we don’t have to be. I love the way we are. Saving life’s together and when we’re not, we are either at the arcade where you always beat me at Skeel Ball...” Mac says.
“Damn straight I do.” Riley adds.
“Or we’re here, at home. Our safe space, where we can just be ourselves and relax.” Mac says.
“Sounds perfect.” Riley replies with a bright smile.
“Yeah, it does.” Mac says.
“Besides; I couldn’t imagine us going to dinner with other regular couples. It’s not like we would be able to tell them what do we for a living... or our future kids for that matter.” Riley says, who immediately realises what she just said and smacks her hands onto her lips, while Mac stares at her with his eyebrows going up.
“Oh, we have kids now ?” Mac teases with a big smirk forming on his face.
“No, no, no... that’s not... I didn’t mean... oh god dang it...” Riley tries to explain, while Mac can’t stop smiling at her.
“Wipe that smirk off your face.” Riley says as she points her finger at him, while starting to smile herself.
“Can’t do that, Riles. It’s too late now. You caused this smile to happen.” Mac teases.
“Oh, god...” Riley replies, hiding her face in embarrassment her hands.
Mac begins to lean up close and continues to tease her even more.
“So, Miss Davis; how many kids are we planning on having ? You said ‘Kids’ as in plural, so two ? Three ? Four ?” Mac says as he slowly tickles her while they fall down the couch - Riley on her back and Mac on top.
“Mac, stop please !” She yells as they both laugh.
Eventually; Mac stops and leans in real close - their foreheads almost touching.
“Just so you know; having kids with you is something I definitely want one day.” Mac admits.
“Me too.” Riley replies, before she gently pulls Mac even closer and kisses him.
A LITTLE WHILE LATER...
After their talk; Mac and Riley decided to order in and have pizza, while snuggling up together on the couch.
They didn’t even have the tv on. They just sat, talked and ate their food in their own safe space, away from the rest of the world.
It had soon gotten dark outside and Mac had suggested he and Riley should get some sleep.
Lucky for them; Matty had given the team the next couple days off after working for 48 hours straight in Tokyo, meaning getting to sleep in was a possibility - which is something Riley hoped they could do often.
“It’s getting late. Why don’t you head to bed and i’ll clean up here. I won’t be long.” Mac says.
“I would but I don’t think I can sleep right now. My body is still full of adrenaline after spending those last 48 crazy hours in Japan.” Riley tells him, as she follows Mac to the kitchen.
“Makes sense but you should definitely do something about it, otherwise you’ll crash and feel completely exhausted. I feel the same way as you, so I wouldn’t recommend risking it. We should both try to get some sleep.” Mac says as he starts to clean up and throw away some of the empty beer bottles and box of pizza.
“Well... I definitely know one thing that we will help us both with our adrenaline.” Riley teases.
“Oh, yeah ? What’s that ?” Mac asks, turning to face her.
He see her forming a smile and raising a eyebrow. It takes him about 10 seconds before he realises what she is implying.
“OH... you mean...” Mac says before Riley cuts him off
“Mhmm. You can either continue cleaning up around here or leave it until tomorrow morning and follow me to our bedroom, where you can show me how much you truly love me.” Riley says, before walking down the hallway to their bedroom.
Mac watches as Riley stops in the middle and quickly takes off her tank top, wearing nothing underneath it. She slightly turns to the side and tosses it towards Mac - who immediately catches it, while Riley laughs and continues walking, teasing Mac even more as she did.
Mac couldn’t stop the huge smile on his lips as he put everything down on the kitchen counter.
“God, I love that amazing woman.” Mac says to himself as he follows Riley to their room and shuts the door behind them, once inside.
From there; the two would end up having a great night together.
The end.
