“I have to admit, Lanolin, this coffee you got is the best. And it’s really just from some small cafe nearby?” Asked Shadow as Lanolin nodded.
“Yup. You know what they say ‘big things come in small packages’... Well, that phrase probably doesn't work the best in this instance, but… you get my point.” Said Lanolin as the two drank their coffee while sitting on the side of a grassy hill, overlooking Westopolis a mile away.
“So… Tell me the end of that story with Black Doom. You were about to tell me the ending but then you got called off again.” Said Lanolin as she placed her face in her hand, wanting to hear the rest of Shadow’s story.
“Oh, sure thing… So then, I got the chaos emerald and went super. Black Doom shifted into his final form. It was tough, but I eventually defeated him. I use the last of the power of the super form to obliterate the last of Black Doom and the rest of the Black Arms.” Stated Shadow as he crossed his arms and smirked.
“Even after all the adventures I’ve been on, that is still amazing!... I wish I could be like you…” Muttered Lanolin as she turned away and lowered her head.
“Huh? What do you mean?” Asked Shadow, confused.
“It’s just that-... I’m not like the rest of you. Sonic can run at the speed of light, Knuckles and Amy can level mountains, Tails is super intelligent, Silver has incredible levels of telekinesis, Rouge is the best thief in the world, you’re the ultimate life form, and I’m just-... A sheep…” Lanolin said somberly. “Heck, even Tangle and Whisper are above me. Tangle has a tail that she can stretch and manipulate and Whisper has half a dozen different wisps following her around all the time to give her any power up she needs…”
“What about Abby?” Asked Shadow as Abby flew out of Lanolin’s wool, and chirped happily as it cuddled with Lanolin. Lanolin lightly laughed back as she held the purple wisp in her hand and pet it.
“Abby is wonderful. She’s always there for me and she gives me a boost when I need it. But…” Lanolin trailed off as she looked to the side with a saddened look.
“I’m just… Not important in the grand scheme of things. I just wish that for ONE DAY I could know what if feels like for you, Sonic, or anybody else when you go super and battle the world-destroying monster.” Muttered Lanolin as Shadow shot her a sympathetic look.
Shadow soon got an idea, as his sympathetic look turned into one of confidence as he stood up and held out his hand to Lanolin.
“Lanolin, take my hand…”
Lanolin looked up at the hedgehog in confusion.
“What?”
“You want to know what it feels like for me? Then take my hand.”
Lanolin silently yet hesitantly stood up and grabbed Shadow’s hand.
“Okay then… What now?” Asked Lanolin, still confused by what Shadow had planned.
“Just watch…”
Shing!
Suddenly in a flash of light, all seven Chaos Emerald appeared, floating in the air and surrounding the two.
“What the-!? Are those the-!?”
“Chaos Emeralds, yes.” Said Shadow, as he suddenly turned super. He turned into a golden yellow form, one synonymous with the super forms in general.
“Woah…” Awed Lanolin as she looked at the golden Shadow who smiled at her. Shadow held out his hand again, as Lanolin hesitantly grabbed it.
In a flash of light, Lanolin felt… Different. Much better in fact, she felt stronger and faster than ever before. But she didn’t know why.
She looked down at her hands in confusion only to see that her normally white fur was glowing with a glowing bright red hughe.
“What the-!? What is this!? Why am I red!?” Asked Lanolin in confusion.
“Let’s find a mirror for you.”
Before Lanolin knew it, she and Shadow were traveling at the speed of light through the air.
They suddenly stopped as Lanolin looked around in confusion.
“What the-!? Where’s the grassy hill!? Why are we so high up!? How are-...” Lanolin trailed off, as she looked down and realized she was hovering high in the air above Westopolis.
“AAAAHHHH!” Screeched the sheep, as she looked over to see super Shadow next to her, hovering next to her with his arms crossed and a confident smile on his face.
“Just look over there…”
Lanolin turned around to see that she was hovering in front of a large skyscraper. She hovered in front of the glass as she looked at her reflection. Just like her arms, the rest of her was glowing a bright red color.
That’s when it finally hit Lanolin like a ton of bricks. She was super.
“I’m super!? How!? How is that even possible!?” Asked Lanolin as joy, confusion, and fear battled for supremacy within Lanolin. “I thought only a handful of people could go super!”
“That is true. However, I discovered a way for someone who’s already skilled in Chaos Control to make someone else go super. Sort of like, a father teaching his kid to ride a tricycle. He’s just there to make sure the kid doesn't fall over.” Explained Shadow as Lanolin looked at the reflection of the building and dragged her hand down her face. Still in disbelief over what she was seeing.
“So I just-… We just traveled at the speed of light!?” Asked Lanolin.
“Speed of darkness, actually. SONIC travels at the speed of light when he turns super, I travel at the speed of darkness. Which is faster, by the way.” Said Shadow with a confident smirk.
“S-Shadow… I don’t know what to say… This is AMAZING!”
“Amazing? That’s not amazing… I’ll show you AMAZING.” Shadow held out his hand to Lanolin, as the sheep looked over and took Shadow’s hand. As the two suddenly vanished.
Zzzap!
Lanolin looked around in shock, to see that her and Shadow were on the Moon.
“Are… Are we in space!?” Asked Lanolin, shocked that she could even hear herself talk in the void of space.
“Yup. On the Moon to be exact.”
“B-But wait, if we’re in space, how are we talking to each other?” Asked Lanolin as Shadow shrugged his shoulders.
“I don’t know. I just chop it up to Chaos magic.”
“I guess that makes sense…” Said Lanolin, as she looked down at her feet, as she walked forward, making a trail of footsteps on the Moon.
“This is-... This is unbelievable, Shadow! You turned me super and brought me to the Moon! This is astonishing! It’s spectacular! It’s-”
“You…”
Lanolin stopped walking, as she looked back at Shadow with a stunned expression.
“What?”
“You… You are the amazing one, Lanolin. You may not think it, but you’re just as important as everyone else. You may not be the strongest, or the fastest, or the most powerful. But you got heart and determination unlike anyone else. You see the danger out there when you go to fight, you know that some might not like you or see you as a ‘killjoy’, but you still run in and do the right thing anyway. Because it’s who you are, Lanolin… If it wasn’t for you, the Restoration would be in shambles. They’d all be running around like chickens with their heads cut off. You bring order, you bring a helping hand, Lanolin… You severely underestimate yourself…”
Shadow walked up to Lanolin, placing his hand on hers as he looked down at her.
“You are much more talented and stronger than you think you are. That’s what I admire about you, Lanolin. Your willingness to never give up, no matter how hard things may seem…” Said Shadow as Lanolin started to tear up.
The vacuum of space pulled away her tears, as they drifted endlessly within the void of space.
“Shadow… I don’t know what I’d do without you…” Lanolin said through sobs, as Lanolin kissed Shadow who kissed back.
The two super-beings wrapped their arms around each other, as they stood on the Moon as the bright blue planet below them hovered in the distance.
The two lovers held each other for a while...
