One cold summers night, Hoshi was completely bored out of their mind. Aika had run off to do god knows what and had insisted that Hoshi stay at the house and gave them direct instructions not to leave her room. After Aika began to get sick of her magical girl job, her and Hoshi began to fall out more and more frequently which is exactly what led to Hoshi being all alone tonight.
They were bored out of their mind and desperately wanted to do something. ANYTHING! Then, they were suddenly struck with an idea. Aika’s friend, what was her name again? Uhhhhh.... ZIRA! Zira would just now be walking home from her tennis practise. She was pretty much Hoshi’s only choice for someone to hang out with but she seemed nice enough, so Hoshi flew out the open window of Aika’s bedroom and began searching for Zira.
It didn’t take them long to find her and when they did, Hoshi transformed into their new human form and walked over to her. “Oh! You’re Aika’s little magical girl mascot right!” Zira excitedly squealed. Zira had a major interest in magical girls and it really showed with her never ending supply of excitement towards the topic and her encyclopaedia worth of magical girl knowledge she kept in her head.
“Yep, pretty much! uhhhhh.... hey do you wanna hang out with me tonight?” Hoshi asked, staring at the ground. It was a little embarrassing to ask a girl they barely knew to hang out with them. Heck, even Zira seemed a bit surprised by the invitation. “Hmmmmmm,” she thought for a second, “well I guess we could go to the 7/11 down the road” Hoshi wasn’t quiet sure what a 7/11 was, but they were glad their invitation wasn’t being rejected.
“But ONLY if you tell me everything about magical girls!” she beamed. Sigh, of course there was a catch. “Fine, just lead the way.” Hoshi grumbled. Zira lead them down the road to the store, stepping through the doors side by side. “Are you gonna get anything?” she asked, gesturing towards the rows and rows of junk food and snacks. “I’ve never been at a place like this,” Hoshi explained, “I have no clue what I would even get” “Well the slushies here are nice and cheap” she told them, walking towards the slushie machine. “I have enough spare change on me to buy both of us a slushie, you’ll have to pay me back later though” she said, counting the coins in the palm of her hand.
“What flavour do you want?” “Hmmmmm,” Hoshi pondered to themself while looking over the vast array of coloured slush they had to chose from. They had no clue what any of them taste like but they decided to take a leap of faith and finally landed on a decision. “I’ll have blue flavour please and thank you” they answered. “Cool” Zira replied, pulling the handle of the machine. The duo walked over towards the cash register, putting their slushies and money onto the till.
After paying for their slushies, the two of them stepped outside and sat on the curb. It was a very cold night and getting slushies was probably not helping with the problem but Zira had her usual beanie on along with a dark purple hoodie on over her tennis gear while Hoshi had their yellow hoodie on with their hood up. They took a sip from their drink and were pleasantly surprised by the flavour. It actually tasted pretty damn good, even if it was all just artificial chemicals.
Soon after sitting down, Zira started to pester Hoshi with a bajillion questions about magical girls. Questions about the fighting, the costumes, the weapons, the magic, the enemies, the team members, the sidekicks, the theming, the whole nine miles. While Hoshi started off being irritated by it, they slowly found themself warming up to Zira, with her dorky charm and off beat sense of humour. After a couple of minutes, the duo found themselves laughing together while slipping on their now quite melted slushies.
After a couple second of silence, Zira spoke once again but this time, her voice sounded more shy and awkward. “Hey Hoshi..... can you keep a secret?” she whispered, trying to hide her blush face with her hoodie or cup. “Ehhhhhh, well it depends on the secret” they replied. “Well, can you just promise me you’ll keep this a secret?” she asked, shifted nervously in place. “Ok sure, you have my word!” they assured. Zira took a deep breath before finally speaking up.
“I have a crush on Aika!” Silence. After she said that the duo had gone completely silent. Hoshi looked at Zira before asking “Is that the secret?” “YES IT’S THE SECRET! WHY WOULDN’T BE THE SECRET!?” Zira blurted out, seeming to be a mix of embarrassed and frustrated. “Well, it’s not really a secret if it’s really obvious!” they explained, taking a big slip from their blue raspberry slushie. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN REALLY OBVIOUS!?” Zira was thoroughly embarrassed now, attempting to hide her face with her beanie.
“Hey, don’t get so embarrassed!” Hoshi put an arm around her shoulder trying to comfort her “it’s great that you have a crush on her, you two would be really great together!” Zira lifted her beanie back off of her face. “Thanks Hoshi,” she mumbled, “do you have any advice for me to ask her out?” They let out a quiet sigh before responding “sorry Zira, I’m not really the best person to ask about this. I know next to nothing about romance and Aika and I have kinda not been on the same page lately...” “Oh don’t worry it’s fine” she answered.
The two of them continued to sit in silence with Hoshi drinking their slushie until there was none left and their tongue was dye a bright blue from the artificial colouring and beside them Zira was reading through and issue of moon sailor she kept in her duffel bag with all her tennis gear. After a couple of minutes, the duo split up and went their separate was home, agreeing to meet up again sometime soon.
