Work Text:
“Ed,” Al whispered, tugging on his big brother’s shirt. “Look at teacher.”
The two approached the woman as you would a wild animal. She was slumped over her books, snoring away. It felt strange to see someone as strong as Izumi Curtis so vulnerable. Both brothers noticed the wrinkles in her face and the flecks of blood still on her lips.
“It’s strange seeing teacher like this,” Al said, barely daring to speak.
A sudden look of determination came over Ed. Without a word he turned heel and returned shortly with a blanket in hand. Wondering if he was crazy or just suicidal, Al watched him with wide eyes as he carefully put it around Izumi’s shoulders. For one terrifying moment she stirred.
“Mommy’s here,” she muttered. “It’s okay.”
Then she settled, snoring again. Heart pounding, Ed stepped away. He returned the shocked expression Al gave him with a scowl.
“What?” Ed grumbled. “She looked cold. Come on. She’ll be super mad at us if she finds us standing here instead of studying.”
Both boys turned to leave, never seeing the tear that ran down her face.
