Coiny glanced up at the light sky, his eyes brushing across the white clouds as he tried to ignore Pin in front of him. Everything had happened so fast— he barely had time to process it.
He had crashed him and Pin. Intentionally. And they were up for elimination. How could he let his feelings get in the way of things? It was all Pin's fault. If she hadn't betrayed him, it wouldn't have been necessary, it wouldn't–
He felt a wheel on his arm, and it snapped him back to reality as his gaze swapped to Pin. She stood next to him, and the wind brushed up against them, making it feel almost impossible to plant his feet firmly on the ground. Why was she attempting to reassure him? He had messed up everything, had screwed up.
She wasn't trying to reassure him. In a moment, she had him on the floor, rolling him over and keeping the wheels on top of him, trapping him on the spiky grass. "What were you thinking? Do you only care about yourself? What's wrong with you?!" She snapped, and all he could do was stare at her. Maybe if he didn't crash them, he could have won. He could have won, he could have won Dream Island, and he could have been happy. But now, he was at risk of being eliminated.
He was up in an instant, shoving her off of him and watching Pin roll a bit down the hill before she helped herself up. "Me?! You're the one that abandoned me in the last challenge!" Coiny yelled back, and Pin immediately replied. "I didn't abandon you. I was just playing fair. That's how this works."
How could she say that? After all, they'd been through. Coiny had put his life on the line several times for her- Just to see her smile, to see the sides of her lips quirk up in a little grin; because it made him happy. It was the only thing that did anymore. "Playing fair?! You abandoned me, you left me to die!" She turned away. Didn't want to face her problems, classic Pin.
"This is all you do, Pin. You're so absorbed in yourself, you can't even see what's right in front of you!" Coiny rambled. He couldn't help it; he had nonchalantly pushed off what Pin did for a little while, just as an excuse to not break down. But it was true, and he knew that now. "I-I thought we had something."
He walked up to Pin, and spun her, his hands grabbing her wheels and forcing them around to face him. "Look at me, Pin! You don't get to ignore this anymore!" When he caught a glimpse of her face, he stopped.
She was crying angry tears. Hot, green tears, slid down her face. Before he could say anything, their lips crashed together, Pin leaning forward into him. Coiny felt the wind against his face, felt his eyelids starting to sway shut involuntarily at the relaxing breeze and her soft lips. He wanted to get lost in it, it was something he had wanted for far too long.
He pulled her closer, hugging her lower section. He had daydreamed about this; holding her, lying in her arms— but not kissing. He had never thought about kissing her, not even once. He never thought he deserved it.
She pulled away and gazed into his eyes. They fumed with hatred, with anger, but there was a sign of subtle affection, buried deep inside her cold heart. She used her wheels to wipe away her tears, sniffling softly. "We're both up for elimination, all because of you." She had spoken but with no bite.
He could only let his eyes linger on her. Why had she kissed him if she was so angry at him? If she hated him so much? She turned back to him. "..Coiny... Please don't hate me."
What?
"..I didn't want to sabotage you. To.. leave you hanging on that ledge. Something inside me just made me. I don't know why I did it, I don't-" She choked between a sob, closing her eyes tightly. He felt slight sympathy for her, and he began to think that maybe she wasn't as cold as she came out to be.
"Hey, hey, I don't hate you." Coiny reassured. "Y-You just kissed me, I-" His hands intertwined with each other, and his heels rocked back and forth on the soft grass. Why was he so nervous, what was he doing? "..It's just a lot. I'm really confused."
"..C-Can we just.. stay here? I don't want to see the others. Not right now." Pin spoke, and he looked slightly surprised. He thought she would want to boast, want to brag about how good she did in the challenge even though she lost, but she didn't.
"Okay."
The sun set, and he watched it fade out from over the horizon as the gentle sound of crickets hummed. His hands were folded behind his head, the campfire in front of them radiating with heat and sending ashes flying.
Pin was laid next to him, and she also gazed up at the sky. He wondered what she was thinking about, why she was the way she was. He just wanted her, wanted all of her. She cuddled up to him, and he subconsciously pulled her closer. Why couldn't she be like this all of the time?
Pin leaned forward, silently asking for a kiss, but he shook his head hesitantly.
"..I want to lay in your arms,"
"But not kiss."
Pin shrunk down in silence. They stared at the sky, watching the stars twinkle gently. He hoped that things would be different someday. He hoped.
They probably wouldn't.
