Chapter Text

Gundam: GQuuuuuuX Extras

Extra 1

Life had another shine, every morning that the artificial light turned on I busted off my bed downwards into my fliplofs to start the day. The trees were beautiful, long elongated trunks that provided the much needed air for our homes, the eggs my mother made tasted no different than a magnificent banquet, and the tea was just lovely.

I could not recall a time I felt like this, so happy, so… fulfilled. There weren't even doubts in my mind whenever I should be doing this. At first I was worried, but now I see it so obviously like the river that I pass every day.

And all of that happened because a girl's head slammed into me once. “Nyaan.” I think to myself. What a weird name, she’s probably lying, but does it matter? The girl is real. A sort of ghost on the street, a tough courier that lives her day selling illegal goods. It’s like some sort of manga.

I turn around to see her, she’s standing on the edge of the bridge, looking down at the river with those yellow-green eyes of her. Her blue blazer-black skirt combo is very cute, she looks like a student, she herself is cute. I’m almost envious.

But something catches my eyes, just a glare, a calm sad stare downwards towards the water. She seems… sad.

“Are you OK?” I ask confused. It takes Nyaan a couple of seconds to recompense herself, and she replies by nodding her head, and turning around putting both elbows in the bridge’s walls.

“What were you thinking?”

The girl looks down for a moment before returning to stare back.

“Nothing… just something dumb.”

“Oh come on.” I say waving my hand. “It can’t be that bad.”

Nyaan looks away. She has the same poker face, but this one’s deep, the sort of face you’re making when you’re thinking something.

“Trust me, you wouldn’t care.”

For a moment I stop. Why did she mean? Could it really be that dumb? I begin to think about what could possibly have her this sad. A boyfriend, maybe her parents. Hell if my parents found out about all my current activities they would kill me. Can’t imagine what they’d think of her. But even with all of that, the truth evades be so simply like the GQuuuuuuX turning in space, waving and flying like a bird in the fake skies of side six.

I turn to stare at her, now in interest. Our eyes meet and for the first time in Nyaan blushes.

“... Something wrong?”

She asks worriedly at my gaze. Unlike last time, I do have an answer. Yes, there is something wrong ; I have no idea who she is. Who is this mysterious girl that fate had decided we should meet?

“How did you end up doing delivery stuff?”

She looks surprised at me. Maybe she was expecting something else. What exactly escapes me.

“It’s a long story. Don’t think you want to hear it.”

I open my arms.

“C’mon, tell me.”

“Really, it’s nothing special.”

I moved towards her side of the bridge and leaned on her. Quietly, she moved back, appalled at her personal space being so quickly invaded.

“C’mon, I won’t tell anyone!”

Nyaan looks at me like someone who looks at an upcoming storm. You know, the ones that happen on earth on their own. Then, she rolled her eyes, and sighed.

“Fine.” She said defeated.

I smiled victoriously.

“It happened some time ago, when I had just arrived—”

I interrupted her.

“How long?

She looks up for a moment.

“Ehh… a couple of years ago I think.”

I made some calculations, connected some thoughts, and soon the answer landed on my face. She had landed some time ago, when that war started, and thousands of refugees arrived in our city. People who she looks exactly alike, and even speaks with that same accent…

“Oooh, you're a refugee?”

I said, feeling like the biggest dumbass in the world.  “ Well done Machu, really putting those neurons to work.” I thought to myself.

Nyaan was kind enough to simply nod instead of calling me an idiot. With a hand, I waved and she continued;

“Thing was, I needed money, and there wasn’t anyone out there to help me.”

“Not even your parents?”

She looked down, saddened.

“They didn’t come with me.” She said heavily.

Her words hit me like a bat, immediately I looked away in shame.

“I’m sorry.”
Nyaan just grinned. Not of anger or hatred for me, no. Just disdain for the cards life had given her, the life she had been forced to continue living. For a moment, I imagined a world where I had to carry on without my mom or dad, and that millisecond of agony hurt just as much or more, than the punches I ate while piloting the GQuuuuuuX.  What would happen, if I had to live without them?

“So one day I was outside the local community dining rooms, I was all alone, and one of them offered something; You go and give this to someone else, and I’ll pay you money. I accepted, and without problem, I did it.” She took a deep breath, and exhaled.

“Next time was the same, and the next time, and the next, etc. Eventually It became my job, moving across the city delivering things for people.”

“Is that why you wear that, so people leave you alone thinking that you’re a student?”

She nodded.

“It’s been years now, then one day, I meet you.”

Our eyes met once more; this time, there was a small glimpse on her face, a shine of light. A color of hope, all embedded in her beautiful yellow eyes.

There was a strange, oppressive feeling in my chest that I just couldn’t place where it came. My heart started racing, and my face slowly morphed into tomate mode.

“S-so!” I said turning my head away “W-what are you planning to do once we get to earth?”

Quickly, I started working on putting my heartbeat where it should be, what the hell was that? Then I turned to see her once more.

Nyaan raised her right hand into her lips, and looked into the cities above us.

“Well, I would love to see the night skies once again.”

The sight of the stars served well in returning myself to normal, all those stars and lights I had seen in videos really seemed to be a one of a kind thing. When I look up, all I have are the lights of the apartments and street lamps from above.

“Yeah, it would be nice.”

I said thinking of them.
