Another Witch in the Family

Summary:

"Harry!" Dudley yelled over the phone. "You need to come over, Daisy shrunk the bathtub!"

A few moments passed.

"Again?" Harry sighed. "Give me a minute, I'll be right over."

Notes:

Welcome!

For context, Harry and Dudley have already reconciled before the events of this story and are on speaking terms and have visits once or twice a year. Dudley got Harry's information and reached out to Harry. They attended each other's weddings and gave congratulations for the birth of each other's children. This all will eventually be explored in oneshots.

Now, lets explore what would happen if Dudley's daughter was a witch.

Chapter 1: Not So Perfectly Normal

Chapter Text

Dudley Dursley was a beefy man. He had always been large, but through effort he had transformed his body into muscle. Similarly, Dudley had worked to transform himself in the years that followed the... Incident. Behind his parents' back he had reached out to his cousin Harry and occasionally met him in pubs and cafes if he was passing through. He attended Harry and Ginny's wedding and sent gifts for the births of their sons James and Albus.

After completing school at Smeltings, his father Vernon was able to get him a job at Grunnings, which hated but endured for some years until he raised enough money to buy a building to open a business as a personal trainer. Through his gym he met a client named Mary Williams, who he began to date. Dudley proposed to Mary one night, almost choking on the ring in the glass of champagne he had accidentally mixed up at the restaurant, something Mary never let him live down. They were married the following May, his mother Petunia weeping on her baby's special day, though to both his parents' horror Harry and Ginny Potter also attended the wedding.

Their son, David, named after Mary's late father, was born soon after. Dudley's parents dotted on their grandbaby as an angel and the Potters sent a crib, though Vernon insisted on letting it nowhere near David. David had mousy brown hair like his mother, and a set of lungs to match his father. Around a year after David Dursley and a few months before Lily Potter, was born their daughter Daisy. Daisy was blonde like Dudley, and was the apple of her father's eye.

Dudley Dursley opened the door and entered the house. He was exhausted after working all day with a group of new clients at his gym. His wife Mary was a teacher, and as it was a Sunday she was off for the day and so watched the children while he was at work. Six year old David sat eating a bowl of cereal while watching a cartoon on the television. Upstairs he heard running water and Daisy shrieking, so Dudley knew Daisy was being made to take a bath. He chuckled fondly as he walked into the living room, and hugged David when he ran up to him.

Suddenly he heard Mary scream from the bathroom. Dudley looked down at David and told him to stay put before he ran up the stairs to the bathroom. He pounded on the door and yelled "Mary! What's happening?" before realizing the door wasn't locked. He tore open the door to find the full covered in water as Mary stood there in shock while holding a squirming Daisy. Before them was the intact bathtub, but it was now only a fifth its original size, as though it was meant for a doll.

The blood left Dudley's face as he realized what this meant. The thought had crossed his mind before about little odd things that occurred but he had always been able to come up with other explanations to dismiss them, but this was undeniable.

"Dudley, what's happening?" cried out Mary semi-hysterically as Daisy grew more agitated. From below Dudley heard light footsteps on the stairs as David tried to sneak up to listen in. Panic surged through Dudley as he tried to think of what to say. He knew he had to tell Mary the truth, but didn't want to say anything to make her think he was crazy, and he had to think of Daisy and David too. Harry, he thought, I need to call Harry. But first he knew he needed to calm his wife and take care of the children.

"Daddy," whined Daisy from her mother's arms.

"It's okay, sweetie, mum and I need to talk," said Dudley gently, "Mary, call your mother, the kids are going out for ice cream and the park for a few hours."

"What are you talking about?" Mary demanded.

"David and Daisy are going out with your mother for a bit, and then we are going to have a talk. Then I am going to call Harry," replied Dudley.

"Your cousin? Why?" Mary asked in confusion.

"I will explain later, just call your mother," Dudley said.

Mary looked like she wanted to argue but changed her mind when she saw the serious look on his face. She handed him Daisy as she went to the phone. Dudley bounced her in his arms and whispered reassurances to her when she got anxious. After twenty awkward minutes and they got Daisy dressed, Mary's mother arrived and they loaded the kids into her car. When they drove off Mary turned to Dudley and said "Now, tell me what is going on."

Dudley hesitated before answering. "You know my cousin, Harry," Mary nodded for him to continue. "You also know that my mother and his had a falling out. Well, it was because my aunt was a witch, and Harry is a wizard. Magic is real."

Mary stared at him. She began to speak slowly, "What are you talking about?"

Dudley sighed, "It's true, I didn't know either until I was eleven. My parents don't like magic, you see. They tried to keep Harry away from it, but when he turned eleven a giant came to let him know he was accepted into a school for wizards."

"You know how crazy that sounds, right?" asked Mary.

"Yes, I know," said Dudley, "But it's true. I'm only telling you because the bathtub thing was magic. Our Daisy is a witch, like how my aunt was."

"Dudley ---" Mary began before being cut off.

"You know what you saw was real," Dudley interjected, "It was magic. It's true, all of it. Let me call Harry, he can help."

Dudley went down stairs to the phone, Mary behind him, and punched in Harry's number. He hesitated before pressing enter. His parents were not going to take this well when they found out. Horror struck him as he imagined them treating Daisy like they treated Harry. I won't let that happen, Dudley thought. He pressed enter and the phone rang a couple of times before Harry picked up.

"Hello? Dudley?" asked a confused Harry, "Are you okay, do you need something?"

"Harry," said Dudley seriously, " I think ---, no, I know, Daisy is a witch."

The phone was quiet on the other end for a few moments before Harry responded. "I'll be right over," and the call ended.

Mary let out another scream as Harry, dressed in black robes, appeared into the room with a loud crack.
