Work Text:
"Hongjoong?"
The clock ticked. 3 AM. Way too late, and way too early to be awake. But it was normal for Hongjoong. Producing while his mind was still working and spinning with new ideas. New songs, new lyrics, anything to keep going. He couldn't sleep, didn't want to sleep, everytime he tried his thoughts worked on him like cafeine, waking him up again.
Normally, he would be the only one awake at this hour, typing away at his keyboard. Even if he used up the extra hours in the night, he barely ate anything. Water was enough to keep him hydrated, and gum enough to feast his stomach.
So when Seonghwa entered his room, a bit shaken due to a nightmare prior, Hongjoong did not even hear him. His back was turned to the door, giving Seonghwa a view of his monitor. The blue light blinded Seonghwa's eyes, and he shortly shielded them. No wonder Hongjoong has to wear glasses, that light would ruin any eyesight.
The older boy lightly made his way over to Hongjoong, careful not to make too much sound and wake the others in the dorm. Even if his efforts at being quite were succesful, the sound of the producer tapping loudly on the keyboard filled the room. Seonghwa was sure somebody must've woken up because of this.
After a few seconds Seonghwa tried again.
"Hongjoong?" But to no avail.
This time he stepped closer, carefully grabbed ahold of Hongjoong's headphones, and lifted them off of his ears.
"A-!?" Maybe Seonghwa startled Hongjoong a bit.
"Hyung? Why are you awake?" When the leader recognised who took his headphones, his eyes immediately changed to those of worry, his eyebrows furrowing in the process, adding to his concern. He placed his hands on Seonghwa's hands and arms, looking around his body frantically, in search for something out of the blue.
Seonghwa sighed. "I could ask you the same thing, Joong." This is when Hongjoong finally met Seonghwa's eyes. He now noticed the redness and dried tears around them. The shorter man quickly turned in his chair and stood up. He took his headphones from Seonghwa's hands, replacing them with his own. "Have you been crying?"
"..."
"Seonghwa?"
"..maybe.." Hongjoong narrowed his eyes in concern. "What happened?"
Seonghwa bit the inside of his lip, avoiding eyecontact with the other. "I had a nightname. It's not that big of a deal, though. Forget about me. I'm more worried about why you aren't sleeping." He poked Hongjoong in his chest, excentruating the you.
Hongjoong blinked. Once. Twice. Thirce. Fource? A couple of times before taking a deep breath. "You know I can't, Seonghwa. Whenever an idea pops into my head, I just have to try it out! I can't help it."
Seonghwa does know. Know about the hundreds of times he found out Hongjoong stayed up too late.
The two were still standing infront of eachother, holding hands and Seonghwa growing more tired by the minute. Finally, a yawn escaped his mouth. The shorter giggled at him with oure adoration in his eyes.
"Hyung, are you tired?" The one in question nodded. Whenever he was with Hongjoong, all his anxiety and fear disappeared, a sense of warmth and calmth replacing them. He felt at home with Hongjoong, safe. So naturally he grew more tired when he was with him, his body allowed him to fall asleep, knowing he was with someone he trusted.
"Can I sleep here?"
The leader smiled at him. "Ofcourse you can." He said assuming Seonghwa would immediately walk to his bed. But instead he hesitated. He fidgeted with Hongjoong's hands before finding the courage to speak up.
"Will you lay down with me?"
Again Hongjoong froze, blinking rapidly when his mind figured out what Seonghwa meant. "You can lie down, I'll be there in a sec." Their intertwined hands now weren't together anymore and the warmth was slowly but surely seaping away from Seonghwa's grasp. He watched as Hongjoong walked to his desk, refusing to go to bed before Hongjoong. But he was caught by the latter, shortly telling him 'it's fine' and 'i'll join you in a bit'.
Seoghwa decided to trust his word, as he trusts him with his heart.
The bed wasn't too small, it barely being big enough for two people. The sheets were neatly done (Seonghwa washed them in the morning) and the fabric felt soft to touch. The right side was were Seonghwa resides whenever he spends the night in this room. When he reached the bed he quickly got in, suddenly feeling a cold rush through his spine. He wanted some warmth.
Hongjoong eventually walked over to the left side of the bed carrying something in his hand. "What's that?" Seonghwa's sleepy voice barely made any noise, but was just loud enough for Hongjoong to hear. "My laptop. You can sleep, I just need to finish something quickly."
A sigh was heard, maybe from both, and finally they were both in bed. Almost as soon as Hongjoong half-layed down, Seonghwa scooted closer, leaving no space inbetween the two. He placed his head on Hongjoong's chest, which was a bit difficult due to Hongjoong not completely laying down, and hugged his waist. He snuggled into the boy, who inturn wrapped an arm around Seonghwa's shoulder.
"Goodnight, Joong."
"Goodnight, baby."
He kissed Seonghwa's head as a token of love before opening his laptop and continuing his work. Now he turned down his laptop's volume and light so it wouldn't bother Seongwa. But it was certain it didn't bother him as he was asleep within seconds, resting his weight fully on Hongjoong.
He worked on some songs, but weirdly couldn't focus on his work. Maybe it was because a beautiful man was laying on his chest, distracting him from everything, even the world, or maybe because he was actually tired. Who knows.
Careful not to wake Seonghwa, he closed his laptop and put it aside. He grabbed the sheets and slowly slid further into the bed, resulting in him fully laying down on his back. The figure next to him stirred at his movements.
"Joongie?" He tiredly lifted his head to look at 'Joongie' who patted his head.
"Shh, it's okay, baby. Go back to sleep." Seonghwa hummed in response and put his head on Hongjoong's chest again, now also putting his leg over Hongjoong.
Lucky for Hongjoong, Seonghwa's heartbeat was the only song he could think of when he fell asleep that night. For the first time in a while, he actually woke up from a sleep the following morning, instead of a nap to pass time.
All thanks to Seonghwa.
