Work Text:
Randy twists his shoulder back, sighing when it pops, staring at his phone currently laying on the trailer counter. He's waiting for a call, a text, god even an email at this point, back from Cody, but no luck so far. He had talked to the blonde briefly after his match against Cena, and he had promised that he was ok, but Randy could tell he was fidgeting more than normal and trying to get the conversation over and done with. Cody had practically bolted the moment they had stopped talking, leaving Randy alone in a random hallway, concerned and confused. This leads him to where he is now, nervously pacing the length of his trailer hoping to hear something from the younger man. When five more minutes pass with nothing new, Randy groans and wrestles on a shirt, grabbing his phone and leaving the trailer, going to find Cody's.
He shivers a bit when the chilly night air hits his skin, and he speeds up his walking. It takes a bit to get to Cody's, and his legs are covered in goosebumps by the time he's knocking on the trailer door. There's no response, so he knocks again. When he knocks for the third time again, with no answer, he tries the door handle, finding it surprisingly unlocked. He opens the door slowly, calling out into the silent trailer, voice echoing slightly. “Cody?”
There's no response, and he thinks about just going back to his trailer and calling it a night, but he is worried about the younger man. “Cody baby?”
There's a light shuffling sound, like fabric against leather, a few seconds after he speaks the second time, but no sounds of footsteps or a verbal response, so he closes the door behind him and walks further in. He sees a couch he didn't see before, facing away from the door, and as he walks further towards it, he can see Cody curled up as tightly as he can in the corner cushion of the couch. He doesn't look up at Randy, face covered by his arms, shaking ever so slightly against the cold leather. He's not even changed out of his gear, still wearing his ring pants, his coat folded messily and laying on the back of the couch. Randy reaches out and places a hand on the skin of Cody's shoulder, feeling the younger flinch and tense away from the touch, curling tighter into himself.
“Cody baby it's just me.” He tries to make his voice as soothing as possible, rubbing his thumb into the other's shoulder muscle. When that doesn't get a response, he sighs and tries again. “Cody baby…..Cody it's daddy, can you please look at me.”
He still doesn't respond for a few seconds, but Randy feels him slightly shift under his hand, and suddenly Cody has just his eyes peeking out over his arms, blood-shot and red, looking at Randy foggily. It's like he doesn't recognize him at first, a blank stare on his face making the older man's heart break, before he blinks a few times and is suddenly squirming towards him. Randy scoops him up as best as he can, settling down on the couch with Cody pressed to his chest, knees still curled up. Randy brings a hand up to smooth over the blonde hair, and Cody's lip starts to wobble again. Randy presses his hand against the side of Cody's head, moving him until his face is resting against Randy's chest, head tucked under his chin.
“M scared.” It's the first word's Cody's spoken since he was in the arena, and his voice is shaky, cracking on just that one word. Randy tightens his arm around the younger, pulling him somehow closer.
“Scared of what Codes?”
He doesn't respond, just smushes his face into Randy's chest and shakes his head. It takes a few moments before what he means clicks into place.
“You scared of Cena?”
Cody's breath hitches and he nods against the fabric of Randy's t-shirt. One of Cody's hands is on Randy's waist, and he squeezes tightly. Randy feels himself get unimaginably angry, squeezing his eyes shut, but he can't express it, he doesn't want to scare the younger. He wants nothing more than to go wherever it is that Cena's staying, and beat the fear of god into him for even thinking of hurting his boy to this extent. Instead he focuses on his breathing, taking a few deep inhales and exhales before opening his eyes.
“Cody?”
The blonde hums, so Randy speaks again.
“I want you to know that daddy will never, never, never ever let that man do anything to you again.”
Cody's shivering slightly against Randy's body, and the older man shifts one of his hands to cover his neck tattoo, trying to comfort him.
“I'll make him pay, ok baby? Daddy will make him pay.” He whispers that last bit into the top of Cody's hair, kissing the top of his head softly before laying his chin back on top of his head. Cody doesn't respond verbally but he pulls back, looking Randy in the eyes, and holds out his pinky finger. Randy is quick to wrap his own pinks around the other's, leaning forward to kiss the younger man's forehead, mumbling a ‘I promise’ against his skin.
Cody seems pleased so Randy moves his arms under his thighs, and stands up, carrying him. Cody screeches and wraps around Randy like an octopus, throwing his legs around his waist, giggling when the older man snorts at the noise.
“It's getting late, why don't we head to bed?”
If there's one thing on this planet Cody loves, it's some good sleep, so he nods happily and lets Cody maneuver him to the bedroom. There's not enough space for Randy to carry him into the bathroom to brush his teeth, so he sets the blonde down on the bed and starts searching for his duffel bag. He pulls out a shirt and a pair of sweatpants, helping Cody change into them. And by helping, he means he does all the work pretty much, Cody just laying back and lifting his hips when Randy asks. He sits back up on the edge of the bed, looking at the other man in confusion, as he's still rummaging through the bag.
“Aha!” Randy exclaims, pulling something out of the bag. “Found it!”
He turns to Cody and watches as his face completely lights up as he sees what's in Randy's hand.
“Want your paci?”
Cody nods desperately, using one hand to make a grabby motion at it, kicking his feet against the edge of the bed gently. Randy chuckles and stands up, walking forward before he softly places the plastic in Cody's mouth. The younger smiles up at him, and leans forward to nuzzle his face against Randy's stomach.
“C'mon, it's bedtime.”
Cody wiggles underneath the comforter, curling his legs up and getting as comfortable as possible. When Randy doesn't immediately get in bed with him, he lets out a muffled whine, so the older man lifts the comforter up to lay down, letting Cody lay his head against his chest. He places one last kiss on Cody's head, smiling softly while plotting all the ways he can violently murder Cena and get away with it. He can tell that Cody's already asleep, and he drifts off to the thought of making his baby happy and RKOing the fuck out of Cena.
