Chapter 1: Lydia B Kollins.

Summary:

Kori gives Lydia the impossible task of inviting Suzie ‘I Hate Jewels’ Toot to Jewels’ birthday party.

Chapter Text

HAPPY Birthday Jewels.” Suzie whispered before pressing a kiss to the brunette’s temple who hummed as she nuzzled into the redhead’s neck.

“AWWW!”

The sudden remark startled the two, causing them to jump apart and search for the source of the voice.

“LYDIA?!”

“O.M.G SAVE IT-”

“GET A ROOM!”

“Oh- my fu- GUYS WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!”

Earlier that day…

“Hey Lydia!”

The black-haired girl’s eyes widened, her arms unconsciously tightening her grip on her book bag, pausing mid-step.

“Oh! Hey, Kori!” She replied, her cheeks bright red and it certainly wasn’t from her favourite cherry-coloured blush.

God… why did the blonde have to look sooo fucking good. Lydia found her eyes wandering all over Kori’s body like some sort of pervert and if anything, she was rather disgusted with herself as she forcefully teared her eyes away.

“The girls and I are throwing a surprise party for Jewels tonight and I was wondering if you wanted to come along and you know… hang out? The party would be so lame without you.” Kori asked with her signature grin, Lydia becoming immediately smitten.

“I’d love to!” The black-haired girl said with a tad too much enthusiasm.

“YES!” Kori suddenly exclaimed, startling Lydia. “Oh- sorry,” the blonde chuckled, “ uh- and if you don’t mind, could you also ask Suzie if she would come too?”

Lydia laughed aloud but Kori didn’t seem to be amused.

“Oh. You’re serious… Kori, Suzie hates Jewels.”

“I don’t know, I’m just Arrietty’s messenger pigeon and that girl is plotting something and I guess it involves Suzie.”

“Does Arrietty’s plan happen to include Suzie being hurt in the process?”

Lydia was defensive and rightfully so, crossing her arms.

Suzie had been her best friend since Freshman year. The black-haired girl was no stranger to rejection from society. People didn’t like the way she dressed, her strange adoration for the peculiar, but not Suzie and if anything, the red head celebrated what made her so-called ‘different’. She made Lydia feel like she belonged.

And so, she was certainly not going to let anything bad happen to her, especially if it had anything to do with Jewels Sparkles.

“I highly doubt it. Arrietty is a bitch but she’s not evil.” Kori stated, her hands clenched into claws for dramatic effect.

“Mhm… well if you’re so sure… I’ll ask Suzie, but don’t expect a yes. I’m sure you know about her rocky history with Jewels.”

“I understand, but- er… can I expect you to be there?”

Lydia couldn’t tell if it was her own imagination, but she could’ve sworn she saw the blonde blush, her posture slightly weakening as she twirled her hair.

The Kori King, the over-confident, at times delusional Kori King was actually nervous. It was sort of endearing for Lydia to see.

“Yeah! Of course!”

“COOL! I’ll text you the address.”

“Ok- I’ll see you there!”

The girls attempted to walk away, but instead, they seemed to mirror each other’s moves as if it were some obscure dance in the middle of the hallway, not the typical thing you’d see at 11 in the morning.

Lydia would step to the right, Kori would step to the left and as they took a step forward, they’d proceed to bump each other in the chest. This went on for longer than they’d hoped, almost garnering the attention of their fellow students.

Eventually, Lydia grabbed onto Kori’s arms (Oh my God, KORI’S ARMS) and she pulled her and spun them both around, swapping their bodies to their respective sides of the hallway. Kori admitted a little chuckle and the two simply exchanged a little wave and could finally make their way to their classes.

OH MY GOD,

OH MY GOD,

OH MY GOD!

“And then Ms. Monsoon just had enough and pulled Loosey out and put her in the chorus. It was INSANE.” Lydia was at the edge of her seat listening to her best friend ramble. She had always enjoyed Suzie’s insane stories from the cult she called ‘Drama class’.

“Ohhh~ based on what you’ve told me, I’m guessing Loosey was pressed about it.”

“Oh, that’s an understatement, but I’m surprised she didn’t throw a tantrum or anything.” Suzie replied, fidgeting with her cardboard-like pizza. Lydia laughed but she soon remembered what Kori had requested from her earlier that day.

Oh… she’s not gonna be happy about this…

“Uh- Suzie?” The redhead tilted her head, “ I have something to tell you, I was talking with Kori before and I-”

“Look who has arrived…” Suzie groaned, throwing her stale slice of pizza onto her plate as Sam Star strutted through the cafeteria and not to Suzie’s delight, Sam’s cousin Jewels Sparkles being beside her at every step with her bright, megawatt smile.

Despite Sam’s immense popularity, all eyes locked onto Jewels, even Lydia’s. She couldn’t help it, Jewels had this certain energy that couldn’t be explained which instantly separated her from a sea of people in a crowded room.

Alongside Sam and Jewels was their friends or what others at the school liked to refer to as ‘Sam’s Minions’ which consisted of Crystal Envy, Lexi Love, Lana Ja’rae, Aria ‘Arrietty’ and Kori King.

As the girls made their way to their usual table, Kori snuck a secret wave to Lydia, who in return brought a shaky hand up to wave back.

“Jewels, Jewels, Jewels, it’s like no one has anything else going on in their lives at this school.” The redhead said with an eye-roll, causing Lydia to silently panic. How in the world was she meant to invite her to the party now?! “Anyways, you were talking with Kori and what did she say?”

“Funny that you mention Jewels, uh- Kori sort of invited me to a birthday party that she’s throwing tonight with some friends and… that party is for um- Jewels Sparkles…?” Suzie furrowed her eyebrows, ready to retaliate but Lydia was quicker.

“No- hear me out- you know about you know… how I like Kori and tonight I am in desperate need of my best friend to be there as my wing-woman.” The black-haired girl said as she cupped her hands together, pleading with her eyes.

“You’re really using the ‘Best Friend card’, huh?” Suzie asked, with a raised brow.

”Yes?” Lydia said, batting her eyelashes innocently as if a halo had appeared above her head.

“Lydia, I love you but this is Jewels we’re talking about. What am I supposed to do if we bump into each other, it’ll be humiliating.”

“Well, I won’t let that happen, not on my watch.”

Suzie sighed, seeming to be contemplating and then she nodded.

“Fine, I’ll come.”

Lydia enthusiastically clapped her hands together and pulled the redhead into an impromptu hug.

“I owe you big time!”

The two friends stood side by side, cold hands grasped together as they stared at the Sparkles’ residence. It was odd, neither of them would have ever expected to be spending their Friday night like this.

“Ok- now that we’re here, I’m starting to have second thoughts.” Suzie stammered, staring at the house before them, faint rap music playing in the distance. “I see the house hasn’t changed much, can’t say the same about Jewels…” Lydia grasped the redhead’s hand tightly.

“Suzie, we’re in this together and if Jewels and the girls including Kori give you a tough time, I will personally give them each a piece of my mind… and possibly a black eye.” The black-haired girl said as she dramatically punched the air with ferocity.

Suzie laughed, squeezing Lydia’s hand in response.

“Promise?”

”Promise.”

The two stepped into the house and were instantly ushered by some intoxicated teenagers, stumbling down the stairs towards the basement.

Upon first glance, the best friends were overwhelmed. The room was dark, only illuminated in certain areas with flashing neon lights, loud music with the bass turned all the way up blasting through the speakers.

It was honestly a miracle that neither had gone blind and/or deaf in a matter of seconds. It was overstimulating. It was a complete nightmare.

“Ok… first highschool party… what is a girl to do?” The redhead chuckled nervously, spotting a very drunk classmate throwing up into a potted plant.

“Wait- before we do anything, I first need to find Kor-”

The black-haired girl immediately felt a tug at her arm and she was severed from the redhead who continued to stand petrified, completely clueless as to what she could do.

On the other hand, Lydia finally identified that it had been a familiar blonde that had pulled her away and she sighed with relief.

“LYDIA! YOU MADE IT!”
