Work Text:

Siuan watched as Moiraine sorted the ingredients on the kitchen counter, humming to herself. Once she was satisfied with the ingredients, she went over to the recipe book, flicking through it until she found the one she was looking for.

"You're so cute," Siuan said, still watching and smiling. She went over to Moiraine and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, wrapping her arms around her waist from behind.

Moiraine laughed, pausing in looking at the recipe book to turn in Siuan's arms, cupping her face in both hands and kissing her.

"You're cute," she said, kissing Siuan again, then a third time. "Mmm. Want to help me make something?"

Siuan leaned in for another kiss. "Lemon drizzle cake?"

Moiraine gestured to the recipe book, which was already open to the recipe for lemon drizzle cake. "I know you love it."

Siuan grinned, squeezing Moiraine's waist before letting her go. "Sounds good," she said, looking over the ingredients that Moiraine had set out. "Good thing to do might be to measure out everything first. Save us the trouble."

Moiraine reached for the bag of flour, glancing at the ingredients on the recipe. Two hundred and fifty grams of flour- around two cups. She grabbed a measuring cup, pouring out one cup and dumping it into a bowl, before starting to pour out another. Only this time, the cup was filled halfway when the bag was completely empty.

"Looks like we're out," she sighed, shaking it to make sure there was absolutely nothing more in the bag and tossing it into the bin.

Siuan looked up from where she was measuring sugar. "Do you want to reduce the size?" she asked. "That's about one and a half cups of flour you've got. So we can just measure out three quarters of the rest of the ingredients."

Moiraine thought for a moment, but in the end she shook her head.

"I love your thinking," she said, "Though it might be good to have flour for the next time we bake."

Siuan smiled, loving that Moiraine felt comfortable enough around her to be able to say no so easily. She knew it wasn't always easy for her, and to her, that little thing meant an awful lot.

"Alright, love," she said, as she finished pouring out the sugar, neatly rolling up the bag, tying it with a rubber band and placing it aside. "Let's go grab some. Shouldn't take us too long. The store's just within walking distance, anyway. Few streets over."

Moiraine smiled and went to grab their jackets from the lounge room where they'd tossed them the night before, after hanging out with their friends. She put hers on, before helping Siuan with hers. Of course, Siuan was perfectly capable of putting on her own jacket, but Moiraine loved being able to help her, just because she could.

"Thank you, love," Siuan said, smiling at Moiraine and looping their arms together. "While we're at it, maybe we should grab more cinnamon too. I remember we ran out when we were making cinnamon rolls, and we never bothered to replenish it."

Just as they finished paying for the flour and cinnamon- and some treats that they decided were too good not to buy- a small drizzle had started outside, not enough to be considered heavy but enough for them to regret not bringing an umbrella with them.

"Light," Moiraine said, looking out at the rain. "It's great that this store's within walking distance, but I've forgotten that there are hardly any rain-proof areas here. Trees don't count."

Siuan laughed, taking the items from Moiraine and tying the plastic bag tightly. "This will do well enough," she said. "Thank goodness that the plastic is waterproof, at least. Do you think we'd be able to make it back dry if we're quick?"

Moiraine grabbed Siuan's hand, narrowing her eyes at the rain. "Let's find out."

The two of them ducked out of the store, moving as quickly as they possibly could without bumping into anyone else or slipping.

"Should've brought an umbrella," Siuan laughed, as they ducked under a nearby shelter to quickly catch their breath. "And to think this rain wasn't even that heavy, but now it's a downpour! I'm practically soaked, and so are you."

Moiraine placed her arm around Siuan. "No choice but to cuddle once we finish the cake," she said. "Let's just walk the rest of the way back. No point in trying to go fast, since we're going to have to change out of these anyway."

Siuan reached for Moiraine's hand, squeezing it. "Sounds good." They stepped out of the shelter and continued walking, the rain still falling in droplets around them. There was the occasional squeak from one of them as a particularly large or cold one hit them, but other than that, it wasn't too bad, really, though they were soon soaked to the skin as the started falling harder. In the end, they gave up trying to dodge the rain at all, and kept on walking, hand in hand the entire time.

One more intersection, and they were almost home. While Moiraine and Siuan were waiting for cars to pass, Moiraine turned and pecked Siuan on her cheek. Siuan turned to face her fully and kissed her properly, both of them grinning at each other like fools.

Though they couldn't help it. To both of them, it was impossible not to smile when the other was around.

"I love you," Siuan said, nuzzling her nose against Moiraine's and kissing her forehead. "Time to go home and finish making our cake."

Moiraine giggled, wrapping her arms around Siuan. "I love you too," she said, smiling adoringly at her wife. "Even more than I love cake."
