Work Text:
"I'm picking the movie this time, Gabe. I'm not letting you fall asleep on me again." Sebastian asserts, as he sits himself down on the couch in the designated space directly next to his husband.
"Seb, please let me have this one, I promise I won't." Gabriel pleads, his tone appearing whiny as he watches his husband plop down next to him with a determined glint in his eye.
"Nope, too late, already happening." Sebastian enforces, grabbing the TV remote from the coffee table in front of them and shuffling back to his seat— making sure Gabe doesn’t even try to lay a single finger on it.
Gabe sighs, throwing his head back to be as overdramatic as possible; as he knew Sebastian wouldn't take it to heart. They were comfortable joking like this with each other, they've survived much worse in their relationship so whenever they are mad at eachother— it's not for long. This was a common thing they spoke about during movie nights anyways — who’d pick the film? What franchise would they watch? Is there a specific movie they both want to watch? Realistically, they both knew as long as they were together, the type of movie never really mattered anyways.
"Well, it better be a good one." Gabe adds, ruffling his husband’s hair lightly with a gleeful smirk plastered across his face.
"Are you saying my taste in movies is bad? Gabe, that's incredibly rude." Sebastian inquires, with a hand flying to his chest to dramatically make his point. Gabriel shakes his head once more while he tries to hide his —very embarrassingly obvious— smile.
"Just pick the movie already, baby."
Such a simple petname always got Sebastian to blush and eventually give in, so that’s exactly why Gabriel intends to always use it in situations such as these.
"Fine, what about a Disney movie? Safe bet, right?" Sebastian suggests, and immediately he’s feeling playful — he knows exactly how to lure Gabe into his little trap.
It’s too bad that this time, Gabe knew what the so-called ‘trap’ entailed before it was even fully implied.
"Let me guess. You want to watch Bolt again?" Gabe predicts, and Sebastian almost hates how quickly he got it; so a part of him is feeling slightly offended.
"..Maybe." Sebastian mumbles reluctantly.
"You're so predictable, Seb."
"And you love me for it, right? Plus, Bolt does remind me of you, so you can’t complain too much.”
Gabe takes a second to remember all the other times they’ve watched this movie and he can’t help but wholeheartedly agree. No wonder Seb always says he has “golden retriever energy”.
"Sure, sure. Whatever you say.”
Sebastian laughs softly and shakes his head, before resting his head comfortably on his husband's shoulder. Undoubtedly, this was his favourite place to relax.
"You do realise this is the best Disney movie of all time, right? This is a privilege, you know." Sebastian tells him genuinely, whilst tilting his head up so he was locked onto Gabriel’s eyes. Understandably, it takes everything in Gabriel to hold back from kissing every inch of his face as he genuinely couldn’t believe how beautiful his husband was.
"Oh I'm very aware.” Gabe reminds him gently, leaning his head over slightly to plant a kiss upon Sebastian’s lips. “Not like you've told me that like a billion times before."
Sebastian gives him a look and playfully slaps Gabriel's arm, Gabe tries his best to pretend to be incredibly offended and hurt; but to no avail as he breaks out almost immediately into another lovesick smile.
"Okay enough, I'm starting it. Just— don't fall asleep this time." Sebastian warns, pointing a finger accusingly towards his husband.
"Okay don't worry, I know." Gabriel reassures, wrapping an arm around his husband as he pulls him in closer and placing a kiss to the top of his head. Sebastian interlocks his hand with Gabriel’s hanging over his shoulder, so they were fully holding hands. Physical touch was always one of their love languages, they always had to be close with eachother; which is why it’s always hard for both of them during work hours.
It’s nights like these that they can just fully let go and just be together.
The first half of the movie went relatively smoothly, of course, this included Sebastian darting his eyes up towards his husband and checking whether he was awake every five minutes and Gabriel always shakes his head in spirit.
They always have running commentary during any type of movie, it was their thing. They'd laugh together over a funny scene, then maybe try and replicate an accent of a certain character or even theorise about movies with open endings. For this movie specifically, it was undoubtedly Sebastian's favourite to watch; so Gabe tried to keep things to a minimum. He didn't want to interrupt his husband's experience, he thought Seb was utterly adorable when he was focused and passionate about something.
Sebastian’s favourite scene in the movie was coming up, and he moves his head slightly (as to not disturb him much) to look down towards his shoulder where his husband currently lay.
It shocks him when he looks down to see his husband fast asleep — eyes fully closed, eyelashes carefully resting upon his cheeks and lips slightly parted.
And here he was telling Gabe not to fall asleep during the movie.
“Hey boss, is it alright if I—“
“Shh,” Gabe shushes as he bolts his head around almost immediately upon hearing the sudden loud voice making an entrance. Of course somebody had to come over to disturb them, and of course — it had to be Henry.
“Oh— um, sorry boss— I mean, um, Gabe.” Henry awkwardly, yet still very quietly blurts out upon seeing the two resting on their couch.
Gabriel sighs, it’s times like these that he wishes Sebastian had just took the spare key away from Henry; especially taking into consideration the last time he walked in on them. It was a very awkward few weeks, to say the least.
“Henry, just— grab me that blanket over there, will you?” Gabe whispers with frustration, pointing over to the armchair with the cream blanket resting on the side of it. Henry’s eyes quickly dart over upon Gabriel’s request.
“Yeah, yeah. Sure.” He adds, scrambling awkwardly over to the armchair to grab the blanket; trying his best to stay as quiet as he could muster.
Gabriel gives Henry a quick nod as he takes the blanket from his hands, trying his absolute best to not move so much so Sebastian would stay soundly asleep. Henry looks back towards the two of them with a glint of adoration in his eyes; to think this all started off as a fake marriage — and him thinking that his boss was falling for a ‘straight guy’.
Gabriel tilts his head over at Henry, signalling for him to leave and the former mafia member immediately recognises the demand and obeys; with him carefully tiptoeing out of the room and closing the door softly behind him.
Gabe lets out a deep breath, one that he was practically holding in for that whole encounter with Henry; just to make sure nothing could disturb Sleeping Beauty right here on his shoulder. As carefully as he can, Gabe begins to drape the soft, incredibly warm blanket over his husband’s shoulders, then along the rest of his body to ensure Sebastian was as content as possible for this sudden nap time.
He takes one last look at his husband, cuddled up with him, fast asleep— and Gabe can’t help but smile once again.
“Goodnight, sleepyhead.” He whispers softly as he tangles his fingers through Sebastian’s hair, lovingly massaging his head in small circles. “Guess I’m picking the movie next time, hm?”
And he’ll also definitely take that key away from Henry.
