The girl immediately ducked behind the ship’s exterior with a small gasp upon realizing that a pair of eyes was on her.
Eric wished he could say he calmed down and reacted strategically, and that would’ve been the case if he hadn’t moved his vantage point and looked down at her legs—or where her legs should’ve been.
He was met with a tail full of iridescent scales. Her two-toned fins dripped with ocean water and her soaking wet hair only added onto the collection of the salty liquid inside the small boat.
He couldn’t help but let in a sharp breath of air and stare at her in awe. He was completely and utterly starstruck. A mermaid. A real life mermaid. What were the odds? He had never been one to believe in such a fictional tale and now he was face to face with one.
He just had to say something.
