All Dirk did was love him and treat him well, god forbid he wanted to keep some of his thoughts to himself and didn’t need to be babied all the time. Yeah, he definitely wasn’t going to sit back and apologize for being a good boyfriend–if James wanted an apology, he’d have to chase him down himself. He made his choice and backed away from the door, turning to make his escape down the sidewalk. If he’d made this decision a couple of moments sooner, he would’ve missed the click of the latch and the quiet groan of the door behind him.
“Diederick.” He heard his name and flinched. He knew James was mad, but it wasn’t his fault; it wasn’t. He just didn’t want to be— “I’ve been watching you sit at the door, you know,” James chuckled, “almost thought you’d put aside your pride and come in, baby.” Dirk grimaced. James knew he hated that stupid pet name, and his annoyance gave him just enough strength to turn and face him.
