Hatsune Miku picked up her glittering pink hairbrush and combed it through her brightly colored twin tails. Today's the day! She thought gleefully. Miku had transferred from Sapporo, Japan to a small town in Missouri called Townsville. When she got the news that she'd be transferring to America, she was ecstatic. Miku had always dreamed of exploring the world and meeting all kinds of people and learning about how they live. She had been studying English ever since she was 6 years old and tried her best to learn every custom and manner practiced by the American people. Miku was more than prepared to face the challenges ahead of her.
Miku brushed her long, turquoise hair one last time before she raced downstairs to greet her foster parents. She was greeted by a young woman, only about 32, with medium length brunette hair with emerald eyes. She was wearing a pink sweater, a pair of fitted jeans, white tennis shoes, and a small yet gorgeous diamond ring on her finger.
"Good morning Miku! Are you nervous about today? Because if you are you can always tell me!! I'd even let you stay home or if you don't want to do that we can all do something fun like go to a restaurant or a café or-" "Oh Emily leave that poor girl alone! Does she look nervous to you? The kid's practically jumping out of her britches with excitement!" The woman was interrupted by another woman. She was younger, about 27, and slightly taller and had long, black hair and rose colored eyes. She was wearing a red v-neck shirt with black chino pants paired with some black high-heels. She also wore a stunning ring on her finger. "Dear you know I can't help but worry! The first day of school is scary alone, but being a foreign transfer student sounds like a nightmare!" Emily looked away with wide eyes, thinking all about what could go wrong. Miku was used to Emily's babying. She'd received it from her own parents just before moving so it wasn't really a big deal to her. However the dark haired woman beside her shaking her head and rubbing her temples didn't agree.
"It's okay Ms. Rachel. I'm used to it." Miku reassured the woman. "Ah I know...I just don't want you to feel...." -She leaned in closer- "... embarrassed. That's all." Miku lifted her head up. "Oh not at all! I'm happy to be staying here with you both!" She bore a kind smile or her face. The woman gave her the same look and walked over to the marble kitchen counter.
"So, what would you like for lunch today? I made sure to go shopping for as much as I could that way you'd have a nice selection." Rachel opened the fridge and beckoned for Miku to come over. She looked over at some cranberry juice, then some Colby Jack cheese, something called "Lunchables", before something caught her eye. A long vegetable with a round white stem and green leaves. It was different, something Miku had never seen or tried before. "Would you like me to fix you some?" Rachel pointed towards the new food. "What is it?" She wondered aloud.
"That's called a leek, I'm surprised you didn't know. I researched some popular Japanese foods so I'd be sure to get you some food I know you'd like." Miku looked up at Rachel. "I never really got out much or visited restaurants. I only really eat what my mom cooks for me at home." She reached for the green vegetable and gave it to Rachel, who put it in a plastic baggie and into Miku's pink and white lunchbox.
"I already put some crackers and some onigiri. I saw that that is a very common lunch snack where you live so hopefully I made it right" she rubbed her arm and let out a small chuckle. Miku opened her lunch box to be met with a poorly shaped of rice with a crumbled up strip of seaweed covering it. Miku was bewildered at the sloppiness. Her mother always made onigiri with the utmost precision and grace. This however, looked....well...
Miku quickly adjusted herself. Rachel was new to Japanese cuisine, of course mistakes will come along the way. Miku would've done the same. Plus it didn't look all that bad. She thanked Rachel and grabbed her lunchbox, walking towards the door. She slipped on some long black shoes with turquoise soles and looked back at the couple. Rachel was waving goodbye and Emily was still rambling to herself. Miku had a feeling that Emily's quirk wasn't just a today thing. "Goodbye Miku! I hope you have a great first day of school!" The woman yelled out. "Thank you, I hope you have a nice day at work!" She rushed out the door and down the concrete pavement to her bright yellow bus.
The bus stopped abruptly and it's older sounding engine sputtered out some black smoke. The tall, thin doors folded open revealing an older man who looked to be in his 50s. Miku excitingly hopped up the steep steps and into the rowdy machine. She hesitated for a second, unsure of where to sit. She stepped forward and looked around, seeing almost no empty seats. I must be the last one he picked up. She figured. People stared at her like she was a lost puppy. she saw an empty seat all the way in the back. But these seats were smaller than the others, about half the size. Miku didn't really seem to care and sat down on the cold, leather seat as the bus's engine sputtered again as it went towards her new school.
The kids on the bus were loud and restless. Students were shouting and laughing together, telling of their summer vacations. Miku didn't do much this summer as it was mostly prepping to move to America. She made sure to pack all her favorite things such as her favorite PJ set which was pink with little kitties on it. Miku was so lost in her thoughts about the past summer break that she almost didn't realize the bus had stopped.
"All right kids, here's yer stop!" The bus driver signaled. Everyone immediately stood up and ran out of the bus, pushing each other around like a bunch of pigs. Miku was left alone after everyone rushed off. She got up politely and scurried off the bus, thanking the driver before hopping on the hot sidewalk.
The school was very large. Larger than she'd expect. At the front there was a LED screen sign displaying the schools mascot, which was a house. Wow. Very interesting. Miku thought. She followed behind her new classmates into the school. As soon as she walked in she got a big whiff of many chemicals. They must've just cleaned this weekend.. Miku was thankful for that. It sorta made up for the rowdy kids that tortured the halls. She reached into her backpack, pulling out a small slip of paper. Miku unfolded it to reveal her entire schedule, plus her locker combination. She read the first line quietly to herself:
"First hour | English | Ms. Everett | Room 101"
Right. First hour is English... Thankfully I studied enough these past years! Miku folded the paper up again and slid it back into her backpack. She wandered around for a bit, looking at the schools structure and decor. There were teens surrounding bright yellow lockers, drinking out of metallic gray water fountains and huddling up together in the bathrooms (???). Things felt different here from back home. For a second Miku felt lost and way more nervous than before. Except it wasn't the "exited but also hoping everything goes smoothly" kind of nervous but rather the "oh my gosh everyone is looking at me I'm such an embarrassment" kind of nervous. She stopped in front of room 101 and caught her breath. It's okay Miku. First day if school is scary for everybody... right?
She instantly perked up as the heard a loud, piercing sound echo throughout the walls. Everyone quickly rushed to their first hours and Miku slipped into her new classroom. She didn't pay much attention to the teacher, students, or the room itself and was more keen on finding a spot as soon as possible. She sat down in the middle of the rows behind a tall, muscular boy with brown skin and deep brown eyes. Miku and her new classmates all settled down, waiting for the teacher to direct. The teacher wrote on the chalkboard and turned around. "hello class, I'm sure most of you know me as Ms. Everett. If you don't then well... I guess you better start paying attention. " she gazed around the room before laying eyes on the girl with turquoise twin tails. "oh! I almost forgot." She mumbled to herself. "It seems we have a new transfer student, care to introduce yourself?" Ms. Everett beckoned to the shy girl. The whole class looked at miku, waiting for an introduction. Miku felt sick. She'd usually had no problem with people starring at her, and even loved the attention but today wasn't like that at all. She swallowed her fear and wobbled up from her seat.
Oh man...
