1. His Thumb
Cody is laying on the couch, curled up in a ball as he watches the cartoon currently playing on the tv. It's one that Randy only sort of recognizes, the one with the talking dogs or something, but Randy's attention is more focused on his boy than it is on the screen. He looks so content, laying next to the older man, completely entranced in the show, occasionally letting out little giggles that absolutely melts Randy's heart. They've only been together for a little bit, only been like this for even shorter, but there's no place he'd prefer to this, even inside the ring with the cheering of thousands of fans.
It started after a match against each other, where nearly everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and Randy cornered him in the locker room out of frustration. He had raised his voice, not even yelling, at his boyfriend for the first and last time during that argument, and Cody immediately burst into tears, babbling apologies while Randy felt like the worst person in the world. He immediately vowed to never do it again, and scooped Cody up into his lap, trying to calm him down.
He's brought out of his memories by movement next to him, and he looks over to see Cody rearranging himself on the couch, huffing in frustration when he just can't seem to get comfortable. He looks up at Randy in frustration, and really how could anyone ever deny those eyes anything, and he pulls the blonde against his body, leaning them both back so that Cody can still see the tv and they can still be completely wrapped around each other. The younger of the two is absentmindedly tracing the other's tattoos, finger delicately trailing across the skulls and wings, lightly scratching against his skin. Randy doesn't stop him, more than happy to let him do whatever he wants, and tucks his chin over the other's head, lips curling up into a smile when Cody giggles at the movement.
The show continues on, Randy unfortunately getting….rather invested in these Australian dogs, when he notices that Cody's occasional giggles and babbles at the tv are muffled by something, and he looks down to see what it is. Cody's got one hand still wrapped around Randy's arm, thumbing at the tattoos, and his other hand is pressed to his face, his thumb in his mouth while he sucks on it. He looks more peaceful than Randy's ever seen him, even while dead asleep, and he can't even try to stop the smile that spreads across his face. This is the first time he's ever done this, or at least the first time that Randy's ever noticed, and he doesn't want to ruin the moment, so he just presses a kiss to the top of Cody's head and squeezes him a little bit tighter.
2. His Sweater
Cody closes his locker door with a sigh, resisting the urge to slam it shut, knowing that would only serve to make him angrier. He had won his match, but he's so keyed up from it all that he's angry now, and all he wants to do is go home and curl up with Randy. He sighs again, his whole body moving with the noise, and he yanks his locker open again, searching through it for his sweater. It's not technically his, it's one of Randy's merch sweaters that the older man had bought for laughs, but Cody immediately stole it and claimed it as his. It gives him a giddy feeling seeing the ‘RKO’ written on the fabric, makes him feel like something of Randy's, something precious. And it makes him smile every time. He's just about to grab the sweater from where it's been shoved into the corner when he feels a body press against him from behind, large hands suddenly over his eyes, blocking his vision.
“Guess who?”
Cody startles at first, trying to flip around but finds himself unable to do so because of whoever's behind him. The voice makes him sigh in relief though, and he smiles against his will.
“God damnit Randy, you scared me.”
A deep chuckle sounds from behind him and he can feel it vibrate through his chest. “Well that was the point baby boy.”
All of the day's frustration slides away and he relaxes into Randy's hold, closing his eyes and smiling.
“What were you doing?”
“Well,” Cody sighs, opening his eyes. “I was trying to put my sweater on but someone interrupted me.”
He sees Randy's face break into a smirk as the older man chuckles. “That so?”
“Yep. And now you get to help.” Cody holds out the sweater to Randy, turning around to face him, staring at him expectantly. Randy grabs the sweater and motions for him to put his hands up, pulling the sweater on, kissing Cody gently after he gets it over the blonde's head. Cody smiles into the kiss, eyes closing softly.
“C'mon, I'll drive tonight.” Randy grabs Cody's bag and throws it over his shoulder, wrapping an arm around him as they walk out of the locker rooms. Cody's almost entirely leaning on him by the time they get to the car, hands waving while he babbles about something interview related, and Randy can tell he's little, or at least slipping. Randy throws Cody's bag into the backseat next to his own, and he turns back to Cody, confirming his own theory when the blonde requests that he help him get buckled. They're on a pretty empty freeway when Cody trails off, and Randy's content to sit in the comfortable silence of the car, the orange sunset making everything more beautiful.
He looks over to check on the younger man and smiles when he sees Cody leaning against the window, staring out of it with a look that can only be described as childlike joy. He's got one of the sleeves on the sweater in his mouth, the fabric around his mouth slightly damp from where he's been sucking on it, and Randy feels that familiar ache of love twist in his chest. He smiles and turns back to the road, his chest just as warm as the sky.
3. Randy's Finger
They're in some hotel room, god knows where, showering all the sweat off of their bodies. Sure the locker rooms have showers, but he can't shampoo Cody's hair there and feel him literally melt into his arms while he does so. Here he can, and he is, softly scratching at the blonde's scalp, chuckling when Cody mumbles something in pleasure at the feeling. Randy's already done, just needing to scrub his body down, but he enjoys getting to spend time with his boy in any way possible.
Cody groans when he shuts the water off, complaining until Randy gets a fluffy towel wrapped around him, letting the younger dry off while he quickly pulls on his clothes. He waits until Cody is mostly dry to start helping him change, placing soft kisses on his slightly damp skin just to hear him giggle at the motion. He pulls Cody's shirt on and ruffles his hair afterwards, getting a wide smile from the other. It's interrupted by a yawn, Cody bringing up his hand to cover his face, leaning against Randy's chest, nuzzling into his neck.
“C'mon, bedtime baby.” He scoops Cody up, feeling him nod and then hum in agreement as he brings them out of the hotel bathroom to set him down on the bed. Cody wiggles underneath the blanket while Randy goes around the hotel room, switching off lights and making sure everything is packed and ready for when they have to leave tomorrow. Cody whines in complaint while Randy is putting their bags by the door next to their shoes.
“You're impatient, aren't you Codes?” He chuckles, heading over to the bed to lay down next to him. He gets comfortable behind him, wrapping a leg over the younger’s waist, arms wrapped around him. He's starting to nod off to sleep when he feels it, and his eyes fly open in confusion, trying not to move so he doesn't disturb the younger boy. He's not too sure what's going on until he leans over, and realizes that Cody has Randy's thumb in his mouth, and is completely asleep. It's definitely a weird feeling but it's not uncomfortable, and Cody looks so peaceful, hand holding Randy's hand against his face, body completely relaxed. He decided it's not worth saying anything about, and he lays back down, making a mental note to go shopping later as he falls asleep.
+1. Getting his pacifier
“Hey Randy?” Cody's voice carries through the house, confusion evident in his voice. “What's this on the bed?”
Randy pokes his head around the corner to see what he's talking about, clicking his tongue when he sees what he means. It's a small wrapped package laying on the bed, Cody doesn't recognize it obviously, but Randy does. It's one day early on shipping, but better early than never he supposes.
“It's for you.”
“Me?”
“Yes Codes.” Randy sighs jokingly, pointing at the blonde. “It's for you. Why don't you open it?”
He moves further into the room to stand next to the bed where Cody's sat down, holding the package in his hand like it's going to explode if he moves it the wrong way. “What's in it?”
“You'll know if you open it.”
Cody rolls his eyes at his words, but he does just that, tearing open the package, trying to get whatever's inside. He raises an eyebrow as he grabs it, face immediately turning a bright red when he holds out what it is.
“Randy what-”
It's a plastic pacifier, soft blue with a white star in the middle. Randy had gone on a very deep dive online, trying to figure out how the hell to work the damn phone while also making sure he got something of the highest quality for his boy.
“It's a pacifier.”
“Well yeah I know that! Just- why-”
Randy reaches forward, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Take a breath baby.” He waits until the blonde does so before he continues. “I've seen you more times than I can count with something in your mouth, and I think you'd prefer the real thing to having to constantly wash your chewed on sweaters.”
Cody's still red, hand opening and closing around it, stuttering. “I'm not a baby-”
Randy presses his lips into a thin line, staring at Cody with an unimpressed look on his face until the younger of the two starts to stutter again.
“You know what I mean-”
“You don't have to use it.” Randy wraps his hand around Cody's, holding the pacifier between them. “It's just here as an option, ok?”
Cody nods, placing it down rather aggressively on the end table, determined to ignore its existence. It's not brought up again until they're headed to bed, Randy wrapped around Cody once again, kissing the side of his face gently. It's silent, just the soft noise of their breathing when Cody shuffles forward, grabbing the pacifier off of the end table and popping it in his mouth before he can think about it. He settles back against Randy, practically melting as his eyes flutter shut and he relaxes against the bed. Randy doesn't say anything, just kisses the top of his head one last time and smiles, knowing he was right. Cody gets the best sleep of his life that night, and Randy couldn't be happier.
