Work Text:
“Careful now— don’t wake him!” Jedediah whispered.
Him and Octavius snickered as they both wielded a sharpie, facing Larry as he laid his head on the front desk. He was asleep, completely knocked out from how late he had to stay up every night. Right now, he was in the perfect state for the two minifigures to mess around with.
“He looks ridiculous!” Octavius whispered as they doodled on his cheeks. Jedediah stifled a laugh, “Just downright silly, that’s what he is…”
“Oh, oh! We should write somethin’ on his forehead!” Jedediah eagerly suggested. “What do you want to write?” Octavius asked. Jed thought for a moment before grinning. “Just lemme take the lead here.”
Jedediah lifted the sharpie over his shoulder to reach Larry’s forehead while Octavius supported it from the back. The pair’s giggles intensified as they continued writing, not too loud to wake up Larry, but loud enough for someone else to notice.
“What do we have here?” Ahkmenrah asked. The two miniatures flinched at his sudden appearance. They dropped the sharpie on the surface of the desk and it made a small clack sound. Jed and Octy stared at Larry for a moment, making sure he didn't wake up.
When he didn’t, Jedediah turned around to face the young pharaoh. “Be careful, will ya’?!” He whisper-yelled. “Ya’ almost woke up Gigantor!”
“He’s asleep?” Ahk asked, to which the couple nodded. He looked a little closer at Larry’s face. “… He’s asleep, and you wrote ‘Dum-Dum’ on his forehead?”
“Well— it’s a joke.” Octavius hastily explained. “Because, you know, that’s what the large stone head calls him.”
“Why are you doing this? Did he do something wrong?” Ahk questioned.
“Oh, nonono! We’re just doin’ it for the hell of it, y’know?” Jedediah said. “Just for funsies. He’s been sleepin’ for a while and we thought it’d be funny.”
“Will it not make him upset when he wakes up?” Ahk asked.
“Nah! It ain’t gonna hurt nobody here! It’s just sharpie!” Said Jedediah. He picked the marker up and held it out to Ahkmenrah. “You try it out. Give the big guy a lil’ mustache.” He urged.
Ahkmenrah took the sharpie from his hands. “Well, I can’t say I didn’t wonder what he would look like if he had one.” He said, grinning as he snapped the cap off and hunched over the desk to draw on the sleeping night guard.
Teddy and Sacagawea stood in front of the desk, staring at a very vandalized Larry. “… Looks like somebody had their fun here.” Teddy said.
“He’s been getting more and more tired this week. You’d think that the others would have some sympathy for him.” Sacagawea sighed.
Teddy put a hand on her shoulder. “Now, now, it’s all in good fun, my dear.” He chuckled. “I do feel quite bad for him though. The poor lad doesn’t seem like he’s getting enough sleep.”
“The things he sacrifices just for us…” Wea said as she walked over to Larry. She took off his coat and draped it over his shoulders. “I’m just glad he’s resting for once.” She added.
“As am I,” said Teddy. “We should let him. At least until sunrise.”
Larry felt somebody nudge his shoulder. His eyebrows furrowed as he blinked out of his sleep. He pulled himself off of the desk before facing McPhee.
“Good morning, Mr. Daley. You looked rather comforta—“ McPhee’s eyes widened as he looked at Larry with a perplexed gaze.
Larry stared back at him. “What?”
“What do you mean ‘What’ ?” McPhee asked. “What happened to your face?!”
“What’s wrong with my face?” Larry asked, his voice still hoarse. “Did my eyebags get worse or something?”
“No, it’s because your—!” McPhee gestured up and down his face repeatedly before sighing. “Never mind. Just go wash up. I doubt anyone would want to see you like this.” He said before walking off.
Rude, Larry thought.
He slowly got up, the coat he had over his shoulders fell to the ground. Weird, he didn’t remember using it as a blanket that night.
He walked into the restroom. He was still half asleep, but the sight staring back at him in the mirror was enough to shock him awake.
Those figures had some explaining to do that next night.
