“But Sunday, I LOVE him.”

Summary:

Famous Penacony singer Robin finds the love of her life in the intergalactic cowboy and Galaxy Ranger, Boothill, and wants to leave Penacony and her singing behind to spend the rest of her days with him.

Too bad big brother Sunday doesn’t take this news very well.

Notes:

Greetings!! ^^
It’s been way over a year since I last wrote on AO3 and I finally managed to willpower myself into writing something (without leaving it unfinished and to rot away in my Notes app lmao). I started working on this lil project for fun in between studying for my IGCSE finals. But after escaping my HELLHOLE of an exam schedule, I’ve had a long break (and too much free time) and so decided to polish up and post my little Robinhill drabble. :3

Now enough of my rant. I hope you enjoy reading my nonsense of a project.

ALSO FAIR WARNING: Despite Robin and Boothill being my favourite hsr characters, I barely know A THING about their canon lore. (Except for what I’ve read on the Honkai Wiki page 😭)
Additionally, I haven’t done A SHRED of the Penacony quest, hence I had to make the whole story a canon divergence au :,)
If anything I’ve written isn’t canonically accurate or accurate to any of the characters personalities, I apologise (kind of, but not really).

Mondays were never Sunday’s thing.

And this particular Monday morning was no exception.

He was stressed, overworked and absolutely exhausted (because SOMEBODY decided it was a good idea to pull an all nighter the previous night). It didn’t help that he had a whole day of meetings with the Oak Family scheduled, was about to be late to his daily morning prayers if he didn’t hurry up, and was currently pacing around his study, frantically searching drawers for a file that had just so conveniently disappeared just when he needed it most.

Honestly, Sunday had so much to do.

He needed a break, even if just for a minute.

.

.

.

Too bad that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.

Cursing the file under his breath, Sunday checked underneath the same stack of files for the nth time. Had it not contained highly confidential information that was to be presented, he would have just left without it-

Suddenly, a gentle set of knocks came from his closed door.

Sunday was SERIOUSLY considering telling the person he wasn’t available since he wasn’t feeling very chatty that morning (or even better: staying quiet so the person would assume he wasn’t there).

“Come in.” He instead reply.

Without looking up, Sunday started organising some of the files and papers, covering his desk in hopes of spotting the needed file during his tidying up. He almost entirely forgot that someone had entered his study until-

“Sunday.” A gentle voice started.

He knew that voice anywhere.

“Ah, Robin. Good morning.” He greeted, finally looking up to see his younger sister; already rocking her signature white dress, her silvery lilac hair done perfectly as always and bright teal eyes, that always captivated her fans, now shining at him with a sort of softness to them. “What brings you here at such an early hour?”

“Well.. I was actually hoping we could talk?”

Oh. So she wants to talk. That was.. quite unexpected…

Sunday glanced up at the clock above the doorframe of his study. He had about five minutes before he needed to leave for his prayers, and about fifteen until his first meeting with the Family. For all he knew, a talk with his sister could take anywhere from 30 seconds to at least three to four hours.

He hesitated for just a moment, “Uhh.. sure, I guess we can talk. Assuming it will be quick? I have prayers in a few minutes.” Sunday finally stopped with the great file search (for now) and sat down at his desk, motioning for Robin to also take a seat opposite him. (Though she politely declined, saying something along the lines of “being quick and not wanting to take too much of his time.”)

“So what exactly did you want to talk about?” Sunday asked, getting straight to the point. He started brainstorming every single potential topic that Robin would want to possibly talk about with him.

Maybe she wanted to ask him his opinion on new concert outfits. (She came to him quite often asking that)

Or she wanted to organise another meet-and-greet with her fans?

Or perhaps she still wanted to try and convince him to let her extend her next concert’s running dates. (He wasn’t going to budge on his stern no and she knew that.)

“So, uhm.. I was actually thinking of ending my music career..?”

Robin just happened to say that the EXACT moment Sunday took a big sip of his lukewarm, bitter (and rather sad looking) coffee.

WAIT WHAT?!

Sunday IMMEDIATELY started chocking on his coffee and had to make several violent coughs to save himself from death by coffee. He looked up at Robin, who was still standing opposite him at his desk, looking awfully nervous and not making any eye contact (The floor looking extra interesting all of a sudden). She was even fiddling her thumbs together.

Robin NEVER fiddled her thumbs together when she was nervous.

“Well, it’s actually more of a temporary hiatus. Except more permanent.. kinda… sort of…” she added, her voice trailing off towards the end.

This wasn’t like Robin. She loved her career. She loved singing. She loved her fans and they loved her. Why would she want to end that all now after years of climbing up to her stardom?

Something was definitely up.

“Robin.” Sunday said sternly (Though his voice slightly shaken from his near-death experience). Robin immediately looked up, her shiny blue eyes catching his golden ones.

“What’s going on? Did.. something happen?” He asked, his voice laced with the concern of a protective older brother. “Did someone try to hurt you or..?”

Robin quickly shook her head, “Oh no no, nothing like that happened, I’m fine. It’s just…

There’s a guy.”

As if on instinct, Sunday immediately got up from his chair. And as he did, it scraped across his oak floors, creating a horrific screech that made Robin’s ear wings fold as she cringed.

“Oh, is a deranged fan stalking you again?!” He said, voice thick with resentment. He’d threatened those weirdos before, and if they were now bothering his sister, he was absolutely ready to start throwing hands.

“Wha- Sunny, there aren’t any creepy stalkers. Can you just.. please sit down and let me finish?”

There was a painfully long silence before Sunday huffed ever so slightly, finally sinking back into his seat.

“So uh.. as I was saying..” Robin took a deep breath, “there’s this guy..

..that I like..”

Woah woah woah- A guy?? That Robin liked?? Sunday gripped one of the armrests of his chair just ever so slightly tighter.

Even since they were little, Robin had been too invested in her love for singing and wanting to become an idol to be worrying about all this “liking guys” and “finding love” business.

(And to be completely honest, all this time Sunday didn’t think she was even into men…)

“So there’s a guy… that you … like…?” Sunday cautiously repeated. Afraid that if he said it too loud it would be true. “As in ‘head over heels, fallen in love for somebody?”

Robin blushed, her face going a slight shade of rose and her wings fluttering slightly. All she could do was look down and nod her head furiously, as if nodding enough would shake her flustered state away.

Sunday rolled his eyes as he exhaled.

Now his sister was acting like a completely lovestruck high school girl.

“Now who, pray tell, is this ‘guy’ that you like?” Sunday asked although slightly disinterested. He glanced past Robin and at his clock and saw that he was now officially missing his daily morning prayers.

Now as long as he could be out in the next 10 minutes, perhaps he’d be able to make it on time to the Family meeting-

“Boothill.” Robin said in an almost whisper.

.

.

.

Boothill…?

Boothill…

BOOTHILL??!

Boothill as in the rowdy, loud, intergalactic cowboy Boothill? The same Boothill that was always swinging his gun around, speaking in that insane cowboy jargon that was almost impossible to understand. And the SAME Boothill that Sunday was SURE did not know the slightest about basic hygiene.

Sunday looked up at Robin, absolutely PRAYING that she was going to say that this was all a silly little prank and she was going to yell “SIKE!” at any moment.

But she didn’t.

Instead Robin just smiled a nervous smile at her brother, as if all of this wasn’t such a big deal.

Sunday closed his eyes and let out a long sigh.

Oh Aeons have mercy..

The first time Robin and Boothill had met had been a pure coincidence, an accidental encounter even. It was supposed to be a brief, simple meeting between Sunday and the Galaxy Ranger. However that day, Robin had decided to accompany her big brother. Sunday remembers the moment Robin and Boothill first met each other; Robin politely greeting and Boothill tipping his cowboy hat in a silent, yet respectful, manner.

They were polar opposites. Sunday was sure they would NEVER possibly be compatible.

However, by the end of that very day, the two had very obviously opened up to each other. Sunday even had the misfortune of watching Boothill take Robin’s hand, kissing it,  and saying something along the lines of, “it was nice meetin’ ya, darlin’” whilst Robin blushed like crazy.

But after that day, Sunday assumed Robin went back to her ordinary ways, completely forgetting about the white and black haired cowboy. But it seemed that definitely wasn’t the case.

“Boothill…” Sunday muttered, more to himself than anything, and cautious of keeping his cool as best he could.

Robin nodded, now feeling more confident to continue talking. “Where do I even start. Boothill is, undoubtedly, the love of my life. And sure he can be loud and- how do I say this- wild..? but he’s also funny, caring and an absolute sweetheart. You know, there was this one time that…”

From there Robin kept going on and on about Boothill, but Sunday had stopped processing what she said after the first few seconds. His eyes kept slowly narrowing, as though trying to pretend that he was still somewhat attentive, but he had completely zoned out, staring into either the clock above his door or into the void. (Even he wasn’t sure anymore.)

He could barely hear Robin’s faint voice calling him repeatedly.

“sunday..”

“Sunday..?”

“SUNDAY-!”

Finally, Sunday snapped back into reality, the feathers on his wings frazzling slightly.

Robin frowned.

“Were you even listening to a thing I just said??” She asked.

“Oh yeah yeah, I got what you were saying.”

That was a lie. An obvious lie and they both knew that.

Robin couldn’t help but smile just a little. She knew her brother too well to know that he did NOT hear a word she had just said (otherwise he wouldn’t NEAR as calm as he was right now.)

“As I was saying..“ Robin repeated. “I wanted to leave my career behind, elope with Boothill and leave Penacony-“

OH HELLLLL NAHH- Was he hearing correctly??

ELOPE?

WITH BOOTHILL??

LEAVE PENACONY??!!

“Robin, are you serious? Elope with Boothill?” Sunday got up from his chair once again, now clearly a bit more impatient. He now had just a few mere minutes before his meeting with the Oak Family and he COULDN’T afford to miss it. Especially when Robin was going on about her fantasies with some cowboy. He calmed himself down, taking a deep inhale. “… are you hearing yourself right now?”

Ooh..

Perhaps that wasn’t the best choice of words since it clearly seemed to strike a nerve in Robin.

Sunday watched as Robin’s wings drooped slightly, clearly a bit hurt by the words he had just said and losing just a bit of her confidence in the process. However that was quickly replaced by wave of anger, as though she took offence to Sunday’s words (which she did).

“”Am I hearing myself?” And what’s that exactly supposed to mean, Sunny? That I’m being delusional?” Robin shot back, glaring at her brother in a way that Sunday had never seen her do before. It was slightly intimidating and it NEARLY sent chills down his spine.

“Robin. I never said that you were delusional-“

“Look- As I already said, Boothill is the sweetest, most caring, most wonderful man I’ve ever met, and I am absolutely ready to leave my career behind to spend the rest of my life with him.”

Oh wow. So what happened to her amazing big brother being the sweetest and most caring of them all..?

Sunday slowly shook his head as he started gathering some papers on his desk that he planned to take with him to the meeting. He really didn’t have time for this. He was about to say something when Robin quickly continued talking, interrupting him before he could speak.

“Sunday. To be honest, I didn’t come to you today to give me advice on what I should or shouldn’t do- I’ve already made up my mind. I was just… hoping you would understand.” She trailed off, blue eyes sparkling with the slightest hint of hope.

Sunday hesitated. As her big brother, he was supposed to be happy for her for finding her ‘soulmate’ and support her decision to leave with Boothill. That’s what a big brother should do. But he couldn’t accept this.

It all felt too wrong.

So instead, Sunday turned to his sister, and decided to be brutally honest with her.

“Well if we are being completely honest Robin- No, I DON’T understand. I don’t understand why you want to throw EVERYTHING away for some guy . A guy! I don’t understand why you just want to run away and why you would want to spend the ‘rest of your life’ with someone like Boothill-“

“I’m a grown adult, Sunday. I’m fully capable of making my own decisions.“

“Okay well, I just don’t think he’s the right guy for you.“

“Oh? I didn’t know you were such a love expert. Thinking you know who’s best for me..” Robin muttered under her breath, but just loud enough so that Sunday would definitely also hear.

Sunday was SHOCKED. In all his years, Robin had NEVER talk to him like that.

“Robin-

I just think you’re making a mistake.”

(Bro really just cooked himself right here… 🌚)

All the anger visible in Robin’s features disappeared almost instantly. The colour faded from her face and what happened next even shocked Sunday a bit.

A single tear ran down her face.

A genuine tear.

Damn. Did he really just make his own sister cry??

Now, Sunday felt real guilty…

…but he still had a meeting to attend to.

“Robin, look. I have a meeting with the Family, like, 2 minutes from now that I seriously cannot be late for. Perhaps we should talk more seriously about this afterwards when I return?” He said whilst pinching the bridge of his nose.

He watched as Robin quickly wiped the single tear with her palm and sniff ever so slightly. She was clearly upset, so Sunday assumed that it would be better to talk again when she calmed down.

“Oh. Okay then..” Robin started, her voice shaky with emotion “I won’t bother you anymore, Sunday…

…Since your meeting with that stupid Family is clearly more important..”

Okay. Now that was taking it a step too far.

“Robin-!” Sunday started.

But it didn’t matter anymore, because by the time Sunday opened his mouth, Robin had already turned around, stormed out of her brother’s office, and slammed the door so hard Sunday couldn’t help but flinch.

What the hell even was that?!

──── . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ────

Sunday was a mix of emotions: annoyed, confused and most absolutely flabbergasted as he tried to finish gathering his stuff and clear his mind.

Robin was his sweet, kind and loveable little sister that spread waves of positivity wherever she went. A gentle soul that never caused him, or anyone for that matter, any problems.

Until now clearly…

Sunday didn’t even have a clue what he’d done. All he did was ask her if they could talk later?!

Never mind that now. Right now he had a minute before his meeting started. If he left now, he would only be a maximum of 5 minutes late.

He grumbled under his breath- Oh well, better late than not show up at all .

Sunday tried not to let Robin’s… outburst..  get to his head too much (though it kinda already did). Besides, she would eventually calm down and come back to talk to him later…

Right?
