𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐗𝐀𝐌...

You were at home, packing up your travel bag with all of your essentials and clothes, ready for adventure that lies ahead within the hunter exam. You were stopped by a knock on your door. You paused before letting in a come in. There you see your mother walking into your room, she had held a proud expression on her face. She walked up to you before sitting down next to you. She quietly spoke to you:

"So... are you ready to take the exam, pumpkin"

You can tell that she really didn't want you to go, but also she has a proud smile laid upon her face, proud that her daughter was willing to follow something she actually wants to do.

"So... you're not mad for me wanting to become a hunter? I'm asking this because you always tell us how dangerous your job is, and yet here I am wanting to take it...."

Your mother gave you an incredulous look, wondering where this suddenly came from due to you mostly being honest with her. She quickly answered your question;

"My goodness, never, but instead, I am soooo proud of you wanting to do something better not only for yourself but for your future. One thing I can say is that I am very proud of you, incredibly. So stop worrying your little head and worry about you getting on the boat that'll lead you to your future, okay?"

She finishes off, looking at you with a proud yet solemn look. Although what she said was true, she couldn't help but feel sort of sad knowing that her daughter wasn't really gonna be around after the hunter exams. She knows due to her being oneself at one point, not really being around due to her life as a hunter, even if she can't really around she would still make time for you and your little siblings. She brought you to a heartfelt hug, bringing your anxious mind to rest. You leaned deeper into the hug, making her more emotional. Your mother pulled away to look at you, pulling a [ hair texture/braided ] strand away from your face, allowing her to get a better look at you.

"Now you go and head off to bed. You got a boat and a dream to catch tomorrow. And we'll all be here supporting you along the way..."

She said. You nodded before being pulled back into one last hug before you finished packing up your bag, to head off to bed, awaiting for the beautiful adventures lying ahead with this one dream:

𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐗𝐀𝐌:

𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐮𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥, you quickly made your way to the boat, seeing your best friend waiting for you, tears in her eyes. You were gonna miss her the most. Seeing her in this state, you couldn't help but feel tears bubbling up in your eyes. Your best friend gave a nasty hiccup before shoving her finger in your chest;

"How could you do this to your bestie?!! Like we're supposed to do things together, and you're leaving me?!!"

You couldn't help but feel a little emotional, you and her had been childhood best friends for awhile, and she knew what your dream was but she didn't expect that this day would come faster than she can set her mind too.

"I'm sorry, bestie, but you know how this has been my dream for so long.. But hey, that doesn't mean that we won't ever stop being best friends... and your bigheaded self knows that..."

You said as you gently pushed her forehead back, slightly giggling. You can tell that she really wants you to stay but also wants you to go and set your dreams out...

"H-HEY YOU JERK, THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR!!"

You both giggled before coming into a heart-warming embrace. You both giggled on que, the captain of the boat called put for any other people wanting to come along before they departed to go to 'whale island'??

You both silently gave each other one last hug, that was until she threatened to hit you with her car if you didn't send letters while becoming your way as a hunter. You promised that you would send letters, but you know deep down inside she would never hurt you and more like cry if she were to do that. Little Crybaby, you both did your signature little dance before you departed and began making your way over to the boat.

You saw your family making their way over to the dock, waving violently. Looking absolutely crazy but you know they came full of love and support. You giggled before waving back and saying that you'll see them soon and that you love them. Smiling and feeling better, you  looked away after not being able to see them, you turned around, looking for a spot for you to lie during the mean time, before you could even look around the boat, you heard two men beside you, not only making fun of you but also cat-calling you, too.

"Awwww, look at the little lady, wanting to have independence~" one said, taunting you another one soon joined.

"Shoot from how the way she looks, looks like she wants something more than independence~"

He said, while his digusting eyes looked up and down your figure. This didn't go unnoticed by you, This wasn't the first time some ignorant men would always try to make you feel small, so you always return the favor back:

"Awwww, sweetheart, do you like being a pedo? Because I am still a minor, let's not be problematic before everyone knows you like to hit one little girls"

You said, threatening him. You see, his face turning pale before he mutters something under this breath. You can tell that he was embarrassed, not expecting you to clock his tea that hard. You had a smug smile before you turned to the other dude, not forgetting about him.

"Oh, and let's not forget about you. You're laughing a little bit too hard over there acting like you're not gonna be the reason why this boat is not gonna sink. Do you really expect to pass the exams looking like... that. I mean, there are other career choices you can pick from, but hey, whatever helps you sleep at night, boo. "

You grabbed your stuff before making your way over to the other side of the ship. You turned back to the both of them, a passive-aggressive expression took over your face;

"Keep on playing with me, and this be the last time you'll both will ever take an exam.. ta-ta~"

Before walking off, but one thing you never realized was that someone had just gotten done watching that entire duration of what just went down. And they were shocked, to say the least.

??? POV:
I was sitting by the end of the dock, seeing a young black lady coming aboard onto the ship. I see her waving back at her family and friends back on the dock, wishing her the best on her exams and begging her to come back home safely. I can tell that she was smiling, telling them that she'll be okay and she'll come back home as soon as possible. After departing from the dock, she looked to see where she should be seated at, before she could even make a decision. Two men began to speak up, taunting her and sexualizing her..

Disgusting pigs.. I thought.

I can't personally stand another human being mistreating other people for their desires, to make themselves feel better, stronger, and more powerful even. It makes me sick to the core, it's utterly disgusting, people like them shouldn't be able to walk this same ground they call home..

Such behavior reminds me of the ones who killed my fellow brethren, the Phantom Troupe. Those utter disgusting pigs acted in the same way, attacking my clan for their benefits, to prove that they were stronger and better than everyone else. That's why I had settled my decision by making an elaborate plan to take them down one by one and to restore the eyes of my clan.. even if I lose my life, all for my fellow people who lost theirs. And that way, we will all rest once and for all, including the burning hatred buried deep into my heart and my ever being.

As these thoughts went through my mind, debating if I should go up and handle this situation, she made it clear that he had it under control. That's when I heard her say;

"Awwww, sweetheart, do you like being a pedo? Because I am still a minor, so please, let's not be problematic before everyone knows you like to hit one little girls"

Oh. My. Goodness

I had no idea she would be so quick to go off on that man and not in a crazy way. While also handling that with such grace and precision....

She had also gone off on another, with just as much aggressiveness. But I couldn't help but not chuckle at their facial expressions, clearly not expecting a young lady to go off on them like that. They probably expected her to cry and run away. Typical, I tell you....

She went her way to the side of the ship, sitting on the side of the ship, fully taking in the gentle breeze of the air, allowing the wind to blow through her face. Face content, I'm glad that she was able to do that for herself and her being. Now i can go back to my book....

I pulled out my book from out of my back, going back to my chapter, content.

YOUR POV:

The ocean is absolutely stunning, the glistening water, the birds calling up in the sky, the wind blowing past it's all so wonderful.. beautiful.. and the fact God made all of this beauty is amazing...

We made our way to Whale Island, seeing how it LITERALLY looks like a whale. It's honestly a cute little town to live on, for my island/city [ it's literally both lol ], it considers to be the eye for tourists which can kinda be a little annoying but endearing, knowing that someone else finds my home beautiful. Anyways, back onto the topic, you see the little townspeople waving goodbye at a little boy, at least 12-13 years old max.

You found it endearing that someone even as younger as you is going out for their own dream, too, it touches your heart to see him so filled with joy. He looks like a nice kid, you thought, but that quickly put a stop to your thinking when you heard those same men from earlier alongside with other men chiming in, basically calling him stupid without actually calling him stupid.

What is up with these side characters always having to say something like they're gonna pass the exam?!!! LIKE WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?!!

You saw the kid ignoring them, crap it takes a lot of maturity to even ignore such fools, honestly proud of him doing that...

You were about to go off back to looking at the view that lies ahead of you, only to hear other loud voices from behind you. You turned to see a frail, weak man being picked on and bullied by his crew mates, you mumbled under your breath;

"Geez, what is up with these people picking on others?!! Is it like a new trend or something like let me know..."

You got up from where you were sitting, walking over to the commotion, ready to take up for the man. You were stopped by the captain, yelling at him and the ruthless crew mates. You saw that same boy from earlier, helping out the man. He graciously thanked before waddling away, carrying a huge crate. You chuckled at the sight. He reminds you of a penguin, walking away after getting its dinner for the day. You turned back around, glad that someone was able to take care of the situation. You didn't make it far, as you were stopped by one of the crew mates telling you all to go under the ship since there was a big storm coming towards the ship.

You were escorted down towards the room. There, you see those two guys earlier among some other random people that also came along the ship, alongside the kid from earlier, a blonde.. girl or boy who knows and an old man reading a... eww...gross...

You slid your way through everyone to make your way over to a little hammock above some random crates you used to as a mini staircase to get to the hammock. You felt the ship violently rocked, thrashing and throwing some of the rookies. Of course, this didn't throw you off, but instead, it made you more.. sleepy?

Gosh, weren't you EXHAUSTED.. you never realized how tired you were until the ship had started to rock, similarly like the way your grandmother used to rock your, thus making you tired, oping for a quick little nap.. yeaaaa, that sounds nice..

You brought put your little baby blanket that was somehow in perfect condition, you throw the blanket over yourself, shifting a bit to make yourself comfortable, after a couple of seconds on finding the perfect sleeping position, you passed right on out.

CAPTAINS POV:

After going through that huge wave, I went to go check the wannabe hunters in the spare room they were told to go into. Goodness, I haven't felt that alive in years. It's good to know that I still got it in me, I opened the door to see which applicants would pass this year, and I wasn't too disappointed with my thoughts, knowing I was right from the beginning. Pitiful, none of these spineless fools had sea legs on them. How do they expect to pass the exam if they can't even take on a little commotion..

As soon as I was ready to cal quits, I heard a sudden stretching noise. There I see on the far left of the corner, I see a blonde young man reading a book, seemingly looking unaffected by the storm, I also hear a high-pitched voice from the other side of the dock, it's that same kid again helping out one of the applicants, than I heard a crunch in the right side of the room. There i saw another young man complaining about the sour apple he had in his hand, then I heard a soft snore from above there. I saw a girl sleeping? Isn't that the first... how can someone sleep through that type of storm that made me chuckled a bit. She's the type to sleep through her alarm clock in the morning. The other boys saw me through the door, wondering who I was and why am I standing there

Ahhh this is great, people that are worthy to take the exam, alright since there's only 4 of them, I have to question them in order for them to go to the first phase of the exam.

I called out to them, and I had to physically wake up the girl who didn't hear me. She woke up, her hair all over the place with a bit of drool on her cheek, I handed her a wipe, explaining to her that I needed to talk to her, it looks like she needs a little time to understand so I repeated once more to her, she gets up and her and the others began to follow behind me.

I took them to the front of the control room to get the most basic information out of them. So why not start off with their names and the reasoning of why they would want to become hunters.

"Right, then. Go down in a line and tell me your names."

"I'm gon!!" The young boy named Gon said excitedly.

"I am called Kurapika," the blonde gentleman said.

"The name's Leorio," the older gentleman said, voice lacing with suspicion.

The girl was still spaced out from earlier, sleep still fogging up her mind, it seems like she had a good nap, at least. The young boy gently tapped her arm, and that seemed to get her up. She looked down at him.

"Excuse me, miss, but he asked for your name. You look tired, so that's why I wanted to get your attention since we don't know your name at all. My name is Gon, what's your name??"

She looked a little embarrassed, seeing how I and the other two boys were eyeing her, waiting for her response. The quickly cleared her throat, straighting herself up, thus giving out her name.

"My name is [ Y/N ], [ Y/N ] [ L/N ]"

Ahh, so that's her name, so she's the daughter of Nehora [ L/N ] .. the dragon hunter. It's great to see how her daughter wants to be the same as her mother's occupation. I continue on with my interrogation.

"Good, good, now tell me why you guys want to be hunters?"

The same guy that has suspicion spoke up:

"Hey, why are you asking? You're not an examinee, so what's up with the third degree??"

He asked while pointing his finger at me. Ugh, I stand stand idiots like him. Don't they know that the exam just began? That's why I'm pulling them aside to get some information to send them off to the next location. Idiot

"Just answer the question, dummy."

The little boy looks back, and both between the both of us, he agreed that he would tell his reasonings as to why he wants to become a hunter. He starts off by saying his father was a hunter, and he took it at the same age his dad went to take the exam. He goes off by saying that's why he left Whale Island, I knew it from the start. Of course, this is Ging's son. It looks like the day finally came Ging.. he's following right after your footsteps.

The girl also spoke up, too,

CAPTAIN'S POV:

❝ 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 ❞

She said, a look of determination as confidence. I can tell that she would be a wonderful hunter, and with a dream like her and Gon's nothing would stop them

But that moment soon came to an end, the idiot just had to say something to the both of them. He was telling them to stop being foolish and to not answer my question, Gon just said it's not a big problem, and it's a simple answer. She agreed with him, saying how it was simple, sweet, and simple, and that there's probably a reason why I'm asking that question. It looks like she's able to catch on.

The idiot from earlier mentioned how it was them against me. Honestly, what type of thinking is that? Furthermore, the young blond fellow denied my question as well, too, stating how his reasonings to become a hunter was too dark for him to explain, oh well, I guess there will be only two applicants that'll move on to the exam.

"So you both flat out refused to answer my question, ay?" I turned towards katsu, who's holding up the report clipboard, waiting for further instructions on my saying. I called out to him;

"Hey, Katzo, can you report to the Hunter Committee that there'll be two more dropouts?"

That seemed to get their attention, confused about what I meant by that. I explained to them that the hunter exam had already begun and that I couldn't send them on through without giving them an okay, I also had explained that the other applicants in the back failed, if they couldn't handle a little storm, what would make them think they could handle the exam. The other fellow mumbled embarrassingly mumbled that I should've mentioned that before anything, I mean why should I?

I decided to brush it off. Meanwhile, the blond fellow decided to speak up about his reasonings as to why he's willing to become a hunter.

"I am the sole survivor of the Kurta Clan," he started off.
"Four years ago, my clan was massacred by an elite group of criminals. That is why i want to become a hunter. To catch the Phantom Troupe"

Ahh, so I see why he mentioned earlier in his previous statement on how dark his goal was and why he couldn't explain why. This young man is clearly asking for a death wish. Not even the best among the best of hunters could even land a pinkie on them. They are one of the most strongest criminals ever to form a group. They are almost impossible to stop, let alone captured. I couldn't help but not worry about the path this young man had it for himself.

I explained to him that he wanted to be a black-list hunter if he wanted to reclaim his clan's eyes and capture the Phantom Troupe. Stating to him that it is a death, misson, that is not what he thinks it is. For crying out loud, he's basically digging his own grave, but one thing that is clear is that he has his mind on aetting revenge, and he'll stop at nothing in order to get the proper revenge.

The other gentleman said what I was thinking but in a slow manner, saying how he didn't need to become a hunter to have revenge. The blond explained how that wasn't possible and went off on how he basically needs to become a hunter to get access to certain things that clearly set him off before Gon had asked him why does he want to become a hunter.

He wildly told Gon why he wanted to become a hunter for the money. He went on a rant on how many rules the world and what could you get from being a hunter.

YOUR POV:

I've listened to all the other statements as to why they would like to become a hunter, and sheesh... don't they have some problems.. especially the blond dude. But I can't blame him. He went through a lot, but I just wish he didn't have to go down this path, you know??

Then the dude Leorio went on a whole rant about what money and buy yada yada yada. I personally don't have my mind on money cause i don't want to focus on something that can lead me onto a bad path since the love of money can really change a person.

Of course, Kurapika had made a snide comment. I find that to be a little uneeded, but what was uneeded was when Leorio basically said how he was gonna kill Kurapika and finished the Kurta Clan. Me personally... I wouldn't let that slide, and I'm not bringing funny either like I am so serious cause why would you want to say something like that to someone? Kurapika shouted at him, telling him to take it back. And when Leorio didn't, I just knew it was gonna GO DOWNNN I tell you.

"Heyyyyyy, okay, you know what, let's not fight you guys. Leorio, that was uncalled for. I think you need to apologiz-"

I was quickly cut off by Leorio, who pointed at me;

"You're on his side too, ay? That's fine. I don't know why I would think you would be on my side knowing that you have a stupid little dream to ride dragons and to make them your little friends. Wake up, woman!! You'll be dead from the moment you even make eye contact. So just freaking give up to your dream and go back home"

You felt hurt by this but didn't say anything, knowing that he only said it during the heat of the moment. Although ouch... didn't that really hurt your feelings.. 'Was my dream actually stupid?' you thought to yourself.

Leorio didn't take it back, and even as to go by mentioning a 1v1 outside of the room if they want to settle this out like men. So, of course, Kurapika followed out in pursuit. The captain yelled out for them to come back. You looked down on the ground. Deep in thought, you felt a smaller hand, holding your [ s/t ] hand. You looked down to see Gon holding your hand. You heard him say:

"It's okay [ Y/N ], I think your dream is awesome, in my opinion. And I know deep down that you know that too, so don't worry about Leorio. He only said it out of anger and truly doesn't mean it. For that reason, just give him a chance, okay??"

" But don't you think we should stop them, though? They can potentially hurt themselves. Even worse can kill one another.."

"Let them go,"

This took you and the Captain aback, not expecting Gon to say that.

Gon clarified that we can truly know a person because of what makes them angry, and there's nothing we can do about it, and only THEM handle it out. Huh?? That's pretty dang wise for a little boy to say, if I'd only been that smart at his age.

A man barged in to tell us that there was a whirlpool coming towards us, the captain yelled out to lower down the sails. Gon asked if he could help me with any chance, I asked the same thing, too, not wanting to just stand there and not do anything when I could do something. The man told us we could help lower the sails alongside others.

We both ran down the hall, swiftly following the man. We made it out onto the dock. There i see Kurapika and Leorio standing there. They seem like they are talking but soon pulled out their weapons. I sighed before running over to Gon's side, helping him and the crew with the line. Not even a moment later, we saw Katzo flew through the air and overboard over to where Leorio and Kurapika were standing. Gon saw all of this as it went down, calling out to him, i soon called out to Gon, following right behind him.

He bolted to catch up to him. Kurapika and Leorio tried to catch him but failed to do so. As they thought they failed to save the man Gon JUMPED OFF THE SHIP?! BRO WHAT IS UP WITH THESE PEOPLE?!! I tried to catch up, but I ended up slipping on the freaking boat. Worried, thinking I couldn't save Gon. But then suddenly Kurapika and Leorio saved Gon while Gon saves Katzo!! I couldn't help but get up with excitement, but I also slipped again.. be so for real..

Everything had gone back to normal, and we surprisingly survived. As the sky began to clear up, Leorio, me, and Kurapika began to scold Gon.

"YOU IDIOT!!" Leorio screamed

"If it hadn't been for us, you would've been shark bait!! You owe me big time, kid, and don't ever forget it!!"

Kurapika agreed with Leorio before having to put his own input in.

"Honestly, how reckless can you be?"

Then it was my turn to scold Gon next, but unlike Kurapika and Leorio, it was more sort of like a worry scolding than heavy scolding the others were doing it.

"Gon, what were you thinking?! You could've seriously injured yourself or, worse, killed yourself. You made me worried!!"

You said, eyebrows furrowing as you look down at the little boy who was sitting down against the ship deck. It honestly looked like he didn't care for what he did. More so, it looked proud that he did something like that.

"But it's fine, you catch me"

"Huh?"

"Huh???"

This seemingly caught off Kurapika and Leorio, and understandingly so cause Gon did prove a good point. Without their help, he and Katzo would've been gone forever possibly.

"You both did. You both caught me together,"
Gon said with a cute smile, gosh isn't he the absolute sweetest thing of all? He almost reminds me of my little siblings. No wonder why I suddenly got protective of him.

He proceeded to get up to look towards me, and he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck, he seems really sorry for how much trouble he caused me, but I honestly forgave him when I knew he was safe.

"Sorry [ Y/N ], I didn't mean to cause you a lot of trouble. I saw you slip back there, that's why you couldn't catch me. But that's fine because I had Leorio and Kurapika to keep an eye out for me, right, you guys?"

"I-i guess Gon's got a point..."

I let out a little giggle before grabbing ahold of Gon, giving him a tight bear hug before swinging him side to side hearing his giggles while also hearing Kurapika and Leorio's chuckles. I smiled before putting him down on the ground, softly pinching his cheeks.

"It's fineeeee I had already forgiven you!! And how can I stay mad at you if you're so sweet it makes the sweetest candy sour?!"

"H-hey, that's tickles!!"

Gon says as he tries to escape the ticklish feeling that is being presented on his face. You soon stopped before looking at Gon, we both laughed, and before we knew it, all of us were laughing together. Katzo saw out little union, he called out to Gon grabbing our attention.

"Gon, you were incredible back there. You saved my life!!"

"Yeah, well, I didn't do it all alone." Gon turned and procecced to point at the other boys across from him. "They also helped me save your life." Katzo looked at them and bowed to them, giving them thanks. Katzo had to sadly depart, having to go back to his port. Kurapika looked at Leorio, Leorio felt a pair of eyes on, connecting them back to Kurapika. Leorio suspiciously eyes him, trailing off to him;

"Hey.. what's so funny? " Leorio looked at kurapika

Kurapika chuckled before proceeding;

"I'm embarrassed for my behavior, pardon me for my behavior Mr. Leorio.."

Kurapika apologized for his behavior, realizing that he was too also in the wrong too. Leorio was surprised at this sudden apology, but he too also apologized for his behavior and what he said. Me and Gon looked at each other before giving each other a fist pump.

I'm glad that they had gotten over their differences and were able to admit their wrongdoings. It takes a lot for a person to apologize due to their pride. I'm glad that they aren't letting their pride get to the best of them.. I'm glad that everything's alright.

"Oh, and I haven't forgotten about you too, [Y/N]..."

You and Gon stopped what you were doing. You faced Leorio, wondering what he meant by that.

He looked away, ashamed.

"I'm sorry for being rude to you too, I know you were trying to help settle down the argument. But I was so stupid enough not to see that furthermore not being able to see how you were trying to help. But I was more of a jerk to even disrespect your dream.. your dream is amazing, and I want to sincerely apologize to you..."

You walked in front of him, punching his arm. He asked why did you do that.

" Oh shut up.. you'll be fine. And it's okay i'll forgive you... until you admit you were a dunce, " you teased Leorio. Leorio noticed, giving you a major side eye, soon you and him playfully argued before you all laughed.

The captain walked among us laughing at our interactions with each other, his heart warming up at the sight that his eyes laid above him. He loudly laughs, saying how we're all growing on him. He even mentioned how he was gonna drop us off at the next post near the hunter's exam!! How crazy cool is that?!!

Gon asked about the captains test that was made for us from earlier, the captain faced Gon:

"It's like I said, I decide who goes on to take the exam. CONGRATULATIONS YOU'RE ALL MOVING ON!!" The captain widely smiled, congratulating us and our hardships. Kurapika, Leorio, and I slightly smiled. Relief washing over us, Gon jumped high into the air, bellowing out in happiness. I once again grabbed Gon, spinning and laughing with pure joy.

"WE DID IT GON!!! WE DID IT!"

We all laughed once again, excited about what will become our futures, which is slowly together one at a time. I'm so glad I was able to make this decision.
