It starts as a joke.
Yeonjun is sprawled out on Soobin’s bed in a hoodie belonging to the latter— legs kicked up, lipgloss smudged from a Rocket Pop she begged for at the corner store. Soobin is kneeling by the full body mirror, brushing her hair out with methodical precision. Like she doesn’t notice Yeonjun staring at her through the reflection, like she hasn’t realized how much Yeonjun has been eyeing her.
“You keep staring,” Soobin speaks softly as she swaps her hair brush for some lip balm. “You want something?”
Yeonjun stays quiet for a moment, processing the words. She shrugs, fixing her bangs before turning her head to get a better look of Soobin. “You’d know if I did.”
Soobin turns for face her, applying her lip balm slowly, as if she’s trying to tease. “Then say it.”
Yeonjun laughs it off. Until it happens again.
A few days later, they’re getting ready to go to the mall. Yeonjun’s hogging the bathroom mirror, Soobin adjusts her own belt a few times. She leans against the door frame, arms crossed as she looks the older up and down.
“You can’t wear that,” Soobin states, nodding towards Yeonjun’s crop top. (Which is barely on, by the way.)
Yeonjun scoffs, pulling it the rest of the way on. “Why not?”
“Because you have a better one, you know? The black one. With the mesh sleeves.”
Yeonjun opens her mouth to argue—but doesn’t. Just huffs and reaches for the shirt in question.
Soobin watches her change without looking away. Doesn’t flinch when Yeonjun gives her a look like what?, doesn’t apologize when she adjusts the hem for her, smoothing it out like Yeonjun’s a doll.
Yeonjun’s avoided the gym at all costs, so she’s all soft around the edges. Soobin adores it, gently poking the older’s ribs as she fixes the shirt.
“You always do that,” Yeonjun mumbles, a little breathless from the proximity.
“Do what?” Soobin asks, voice velvety.
“Act like you get to tell me what to do.”
Soobin smiles, soft and smug. “You never stop me.”
It’s a few minutes before a pep rally, Yeonjun’s sitting on the bathroom counter as Soobin fixes her lip liner.
“Sit still,” Soobin says, nudging Yeonjun’s chin up gently with two fingers. Her voice is soft but unshakable.
Yeonjun’s heart stutters. She tries to laugh, to keep the moment light, teasing. “You’re such a control freak.”
Soobin shrugs a little, her focus never faltering. “You let me.”
The words stick.
Because she does. Because she likes it.
She sits still. Watches Soobin trace the soft curve of her lip with terrifying tenderness, like she’s memorizing it. Their knees are touching. Their breath synced.
“I like making you feel pretty.” Soobin admits, eyes locked on Yeonjun’s. They’re all glossy, as if she’s begging for something. Yeonjun’s heart does a backflip.
“You do,” Yeonjun manages, though she feels like she’ll pass out any minute.
Soobin smiles at that, pressing the most delicate kiss to Yeonjun’s lips— who chases after it a little too desperately.
