    Summary

The day in Brooklyn was a soggy one. After Pearl Harbor, everything had changed. Civilians like Eula Mae Jones weren’t drafted, but felt the pull all the same. Once a seamstress, she now serves as an admin clerk at Fort Hamilton, processing men headed to war. Most days are routine until a voice cuts through the monotony. Smooth. Persistent.
Private Barnes. A charming Casanova at heart, he realizes he must slow his pace if he wants to earn the heart of the most mysterious woman he's ever met.
A slow-burn story of proper courtship with a Black American life in 1940s Brooklyn on (and off of) a military base.
The story begins as Eula Mae in 1942 and takes place before & during all events in Captain America: The First Avenger.

Writer’s Note: Eula Mae is a black American. Light themes of racism and Black culture will be present in the context of America in the 40's. I understand this may be hard for some to self-insert and apologize for any discomfort. This is a slow burn, full of yearning and worth the wait.
