Work Text:
Rou just wanted to play some League today.
Unfortunately, his boyfriend? – always a debatable title when it comes to Hoshirube – seems to have other plans.
Rou is sitting in front of his monitor, queued up for a casual game on League, when a message pops up in the in-game chat. It’s Hoshirube, probably up to something that’ll test the limits of Rou’s patience again this time.
sylveSTAR
:D
The single message is enough for Rou’s suspicion to be roused.
KoyanagiRou
what do you want?
sylveSTAR
so cold TT
KoyanagiRou
just spit it out already
sylveSTAR
wanna duo?
KoyanagiRou
should’ve just said that in the first place
Rou quickly sends Hoshirube a party join request, which is immediately accepted. Hoshirube’s banner appears next to his, and they queue up as jungle and mid. Before Rou could go back to scrolling mindlessly on his phone while waiting to get matched into a game, another message from Hoshirube pops up in their chat.
sylveSTAR
come over if we win a game??
“Huh?” The message baffles Rou so much, the sound escapes him before he could stop it.
KoyanagiRou
today? to hang out?
sylveSTAR
sure, to hang out
KoyanagiRou
???
are you seriously bootycalling me on league
sylveSTAR
i don’t know what you mean. i said sure we can hang out
KoyanagiRou
you’re a freak and i can’t trust you
sylveSTAR
so mean TT is it a crime to want to see you now!!
KoyanagiRou
your whole existence is a crime.
but okay whatever i’ll come over if we win a game
and if you get 10 kills on top of it
sylveSTAR
say no more
get ready to be carried
KoyanagiRou
waiting patiently for the bus to move rn
As if on cue, they get matched into a game, and Rou presses accept. The champion pick screen appears after a few moments, and Rou scrolls through the jungle champions. He notices that Hoshirube didn’t reply to his last message, and he enjoys the relative peace of his in-game chats again.
The silence continues once the game starts, and Hoshirube seems completely locked in on playing. Rou minds his own business for most of the game as well, farming up a storm in his camps. He helps Hoshirube get kills whenever he pings for it, aware that he’s contradicting the reluctant way he sounded earlier. But hey, if he also wants to see Hoshirube today, that’ll only be between him and god.
The game eventually ends with a win, but Hoshirube only gets six kills, so they queue up again after a flood of messages come into Rou’s chat which he pointedly ignores. It’s only by the fifth game does Hoshirube finally get them a win and those ten kills, and Rou is greeted by a storm of messages from Hoshirube when he loads back into the lobby.
sylveSTAR
thank you for choosing the rube bus
your next destination, my place
don’t go back on your words now, koyanagi
KoyanagiRou
shut up, you’re so annoying
i won’t. i’ll log off now
sylveSTAR
see you soon!!!!
Rou closes the League client and sighs exasperatedly, leaning back in his chair while staring at his desktop. His phone vibrates where it sits on his desk, and he feels the beginnings of a headache coming on when he sees that it’s a notification from Hoshirube. Rou decides he’ll reply later after he leaves his apartment, otherwise he might be dissuaded from actually going over if he reads whatever Hoshirube has to say right now.
Rou shuts his computer down and stands from his chair, stretching his arms out over his head and groaning when his back cracks satisfyingly. He moves around his room, slowly getting ready to leave for Hoshirube’s place, opting to make the other man wait for as long as possible out of spite.
His phone buzzes in his pocket when he finally leaves his apartment, and he pulls it out of his pocket to check what else Hoshirube has to say, now that the possibility of him just not showing up is lower with his door locked behind him. He opens up their chat while he walks to the train station.
Tako

should i order something to eat for dinner
or maybe you want to actually go out to eat this time

Yup. That headache is definitely coming in now.
Rou

i’m on my way now
Tako

Rou

Tako
so you can swoop in and rescue poor little me from the thief?? you’re so sweet
ok, ordering now
take care <3
Rou
ok
Despite Rou’s facade of reluctance and annoyance at Hoshirube, he can at least admit to himself that he’s glad to be able to see the other man today. Something he’d rather probably die for than say out loud, especially to anyone in their friend circle. Especially to Hoshirube. The other man would hold that over his head until the day he finally croaks.
Not that Hoshirube doesn’t probably already know, at least subconsciously. He’s always been the one who has understood Rou the most, even before the amnesia thing. It’s just a given fact between them, a universal truth, that Hoshirube can understand the language that Rou doesn’t speak. Even if the other man doesn’t remember, he’s seen Rou through it all – his lowest points steeped in darkness, and even his age-old fits of borderline insanity.
And yet, here Hoshirube still is, both of them changed beyond understanding, and he still wants Rou to be by his side.
It was a concept that Rou rejected and even shunned at first, after Hoshirube’s older memories of them had faded from his mind. But there was an inevitability to them and in time, they just clicked back into place, even when the edges of their puzzle pieces had morphed into something completely new.
The thought brings a sense of comfort to Rou’s chest, the fact that someone would always accept him, no matter what forms they take or lives they live…
Rou is excited to see Hoshirube today.
