With you in my arms, laying by my side

Summary:

Mikage Reo and Nagi Seishiro were just friends. At least that's what Reo insisted on, even though nobody in the world believes her. Not even Nagi herself.

(Reo is in love with her best friend. Nagi already thinks they're dating)

Work Text:

Mikages always get what they want; that's what Reo was told since the day she was born.

True to her parents' words, she always got what she wanted, no matter what it was. Whether it was some flimsy physical possession she forgot about after a few weeks or playing side-by-side with her treasure.

Nagi Seishiro was the treasure she had discovered, with genius ball control and unnatural instincts that made her a pain to deal with for her opponents.

Nagi was also lazy to her core, never doing anything she deemed a hassle and needing coaxing for the most simple things. Before meeting Reo, she had deemed preparing meals a hassle and survived on a jelly diet.

Of course, after meeting each other, Reo was the one bringing her food made by her private chefs and feeding it to the other by hand

Some might've considered it demeaning, considering Reo was the heir to a multimillionaire company and one of Japan's most beloved soccer players, but Reo never thought of it as that. Nagi Seishiro was the treasure Reo discovered all on her own. Is it not a basic human instinct to care for your beloved?

Reo's and Nagi's relationship (friendship, she corrected herself) was always seen as weird by others. Chigiri always wanting to escape the room when the two were by each other's side and Isagi, on a memorable occasion, calling them “no good faggots who refuse to kick the damn ball” with a livid expression on her face.

Reo was too befuddled to say anything back.

On another occasion, everyone in Blue Lock received a lecture from Ego about how this was a facility made to create the best striker, not to have homosexual relationship drama, looking straight at her and the Nagi leaning on her shoulder, nuzzling into her neck.

For her own peace, Reo ignored the glare Nagi and Ego sent to each other.

And, despite extremely popular belief, Nagi and Reo were just friends. Best friends. Two girls with a completely platonic relationship and feelings and nothing more.

…

Okay. Maybe Reo's feelings aren't as platonic as she says they are. Maybe.

…

Okay, they're not platonic at all. But how could they be when Nagi's treasure is so perfect and amazing, saying things that make Reo's heart pound so casually and continuing with whatever game she was doing, like Nagi didn't just shatter Reo's whole worldview?

Reo was staying over at Nagi's, an occurrence that was becoming more and more common as Reo got into more arguments with her father, something she was complaining about to Nagi.

“It's so annoying!” she exclaimed, throwing one hand into the air as the other continued petting the Nagi sitting between her legs.

“I know how to manage our company better than anyone else does. I have more experience and connections than anyone he tries to set me up with! I'm Reo Mikage! I'm one of the richest and one of the best strikers in our country! There's no reason to set me up with someone random to ‘establish connections’!”

Nagi hummed, her hands that were previously occupied with a game stilling, and turned to her, expression unreadable.

“Reo, you don't want to marry anyone, right?” Nagi asked, her voice oddly low.

Reo nodded, her hands still running through her treasure's wavy hair. “Have you not been listening? I just said I don't want to—”

Nagi's lips curved slightly, and she nodded, going back to her game. “Good, Reo doesn't need to marry anyone except me.”

Reo was dumbfounded. Her mouth fell open and her eyes widened; she could feel her cheeks darken and knew she was blushing uncontrollably. She must've made a noise of some sort because Nagi looked back, and her eyes crinkled, very obviously satisfied with the state Reo was in.

Reo looked away, refusing to make eye contact. God, her treasure says the weirdest things.

(A part of Reo, one that she's been trying to suppress since the day she met Nagi, was extremely happy, satisfied to the point it made Reo feel nauseous.)

“I just don't get it, Chigiri!” Reo complains, something she seems to be doing a lot lately, and slams the beer on the table.

She's visiting Chigiri, having their weekly debriefs about their crushes, although Chigiri is making progress a lot faster than Reo is.

“Reo doesn't need to marry anyone but me”?! It's like she's trying to kill me! I swear I almost exploded at that moment! Like, I actually felt my heart almost stop. There's no way that wasn't a secret murder attempt.”

Chigiri’s face twisted into one of disgust, and she looked at Reo like she was stupid. “Girl. Are you serious? Nagi definitely thinks you two are already dating; she's going to be sooooo confused when she finds out you think you're just friends. She basically said she's going to marry you in the future; you two better talk it out before she gets the ring.”

Reo groaned, “Nuh-uh! She definitely didn't mean it like that! There's no way she wants to marry someone like me.”

Chigiri stared at him like he grew a second head, downing her own beer quickly and rolling her eyes. “Have you not seen how crazy she is over you!? You're basically all she thinks about! Once, a fan came up to her and asked if they could hug, and you know what she said!”

Oh. Nagi hadn't told her about this. Reo ignored the pit forming in her stomach and raised an eyebrow. “What?”

“The only one I want to hug is Reo,” word for word. That poor fan flushed red. I'm not sure if she was himejoshi-ing out or if she was embarrassed about getting turned down so publicly.”

Chigiri sighed, running her hands through her silky hair. “The point is, Nagi's obsessed with you. I know you were pulling from toothbrushes and shit during your divorce era in the second selection, but you were basically all she spoke about. Reo this, Reo that. Isagi once said they had an argument because Nagi said she can't do anything without Bachira, and Isagi said Nagi can't do anything without you either.”

Reo stared at Chigiri. Hard. Before groaning and cracking open another can of beer, “Okay. That's all I can take for tonight—less talking and more drinking.”

Chigiri laughed, opening a can of beer of her own and holding it up in a toast, “To our lesbian situationships?”

Reo raised her can and tapped it on Chigiri's with a slight clink sound. “To our lesbian situationships.”

The two girls laughed, and for a moment Reo felt at peace.

That peace did not last long. There's a slight chance Reo might have ignored her limits and gotten shit-faced drunk. A slight chance.

She stared at her phone, eyesight blurry as she felt tears well up in her eyes again.

She stared at her phone, eyesight blurry as she felt tears well up in her eyes again.

Seeing Seishiro tell her ‘I love you’ so easily made Reo's stomach clench; knowing she didn't mean it the same way Reo did was heartbreaking, but she sucked it up. Reo didn't want to get too greedy.

Maybe Mikages don't always get what they want… she thought, just as the door burst open and Nagi walked in. Her pace was more hurried than usual, and her eyes were locked onto Reo's.

Reo prayed to every god in existence that those eyes never strayed away from her.

“Reo,” Seishiro said, her voice soft and tone gentle, “let's go home.”

Reo nodded, sluggishly moving to get up before being suddenly scooped into Reo's arms.

Reo's eyes widened as Seishiro moved to adjust her to a more comfortable position.

Bridal carry. My treasure is carrying me bridal style. That fact made Reo's stomach churn with both guilt and desire.

Seishiro hummed, the vibrations being sent straight to Reo's core. “No need today, boss; Reo gets the special Nagi limousine.”

“If it meant getting the Nagi Limousine whenever I wanted,” Reo's mouth moved before her brain could keep up. “I'd get drunk every day.”

Seishiro huffed, a noise of amusement. “Reo doesn't have to be drunk for that; I'll carry you whenever you want, boss.”

Oh. Reo's insides feel like they're going to explode. This must be an attempt on her life; Reo's treasure is too dangerous.

Reo was snapped out of her thoughts by the sound of Chigiri clapping, “Get it moving, lovebirds; Eita is coming over.”

Seishiro nodded and walked towards the door, telling her to have fun and walking out, shutting the door behind her.

Reo's pretty sure her face was flushing even more red now. She couldn't deny the lovebird allegations, and most importantly, neither did Seishiro.

Reo clung onto Seishiro like she was trying to merge their bodies together, not letting go at all and uncharacteristically whining when Seishiro pried her off so she could help Reo change.

The two were in bed now, the outside world forgotten as they enjoyed each other's embrace. Reo's hands automatically went to Seishiro’s hair, who was being lulled to sleep by the sensation.

Gathering her courage, Reo gulped, the sound causing her treasure to lazily open her eyes at her. “Mmm, Reo? What's wrong?

“Treasure, what are we?”

Once again, Reo couldn't control her mouth. She tensed, more words that she couldn't make sense of coming out: “I mean—I don't get it! You basically said you wanted to marry me that day. Everyone thinks we're dating, and we don't do anything persuasive enough to stop the rumors. Everyone calls me your wife! We act like a couple; we're all over each other every hour of every day, but you never asked me out! I didn't ask you out either, so what in the world are we?”

Reo took a deep breath, already regretting this entire day. She expected Nagi to shove her off, tell her to get out, or something like that— but instead all she got was a confused (and adorable) Seishiro tilting her head, frowning, “What's Reo talking about? Aren't we dating?”

Oh.

Oh.

Well, this was news to her. Reo felt like she could breathe again.

“We are?”

Seishiro hummed, her hand moving to rest on her neck. “I thought we were. You promised we're going to stay together forever, and Reo pampers me all the time and calls me hers. We basically live together at this point, and everyone knows Reo's mine. I just didn't expect Reo not to know.”

She couldn't help it; Reo laughed. A full-body laugh that had her gasping for air as she clutched at her sides, trying to control herself

“Fuck! I'm sorry, Sei. I'm sorry, but hah! I feel silly now! All this time, I've been wondering what we are and thinking my feelings are one-sided, and you thought we were dating!” She giggled. “If I knew, I would've kissed you a thousand times over! I've been holding back for so long! If I knew I could've been kissing you this whole time, I would've gotten drunk a lot sooner!”

Reo snickered at the pouting Seishiro, who was pawing at her. “Reooooooooo… I thought you wanted to take things slow… Holding myself back was such a hassle…”

Reo took Seishiro's face into her hands, leaning into the other girl. “Oh? Have I made my treasure wait? You've been so patient, waiting all this time. I should reward you, shouldn't I?” She cooed, keenly aware of the way her treasure's breath hitched.

“Mhm, I deserve a reward, Reo.” Seishiro said, leaning in closer and closer until there was barely any space left. “Can I?”

Reo's heart soared. Her treasure truly was perfect. She nodded, closing her eyes.

The moment Seishiro's lips (slightly chapped; Reo's going to buy her a chapstick for that. And apply it herself, of course) touched her own, Reo felt truly complete. It was innocent, sweet, only Reo and Seishiro. Reo and her treasure. The outside world was truly forgotten, and Reo never wanted to leave their little bubble.

Reo's hands moved to Seishiro's neck, lightly caressing the area. Seishiro’s hands were resting on Reo's waist now; the weight of her strong and calloused hands holding her felt like a tether to the world.

They had to part for air eventually. But Reo's hands never stopped caressing her treasure, and Seishiro brought their foreheads together, holding intense eye contact.

“Reo, that felt so good I feel like I could die.”

Reo giggled, pecking Seishiro again. “Don't die, treasure. I still want to kiss you a lot more.”

“So that means we're finally dating now? Yay.”

Reo hummed, her eyelids dropping, “Let's sleep, treasure. I want to kiss you more in the morning.”

Reo's never seen Seishiro fall asleep faster than that. Which was a feat in itself, considering the girl could fall asleep in minutes. Seishiro was holding Reo close to her, with her head lying on Reo's chest, listening to her heartbeat, already snoring.

Reo couldn't wait to wake up next to her girlfriend in the morning. She fell asleep with a smile on her face, being lulled to sleep by the sound of Seishiro breathing.

Notes:

« “Reo, that felt so good I feel like I could die.” » inspired by my friend asking what I'd do if I kissed the finest character in existence, and me saying I'd explode and die on the spot if I kissed Chigiri
