    “I wish we were sober,” She said, defeated. She had the same angry look on her face—her brows tightly knitted together and her nose slightly scrunched—but there were still tears welling in her eyes.

    He frowned. “Why?”

    “I want more than…this with you.” Claire looked back up at him, her eyes boring into his. “I want anything but to be drunk.” The truth was spilling out now, and with every word that came off her tongue, it stung so much more than the last one. She knew that there was something there that she couldn’t admit to herself was real—and it used to feel so far away—but now it was staring back at her with half her heart in its hand. She didn’t know what it was, but it wasn’t this.
