Work Text:
Teh can't help but search Oh Aew's eyes in the middle of the crowd. The wedding party had just started with Hoon and Nozomi having their first dance. After Oh's rejection, the last time they saw each other, Teh's life has been spiraling down. He can't concentrate on his acting, he can't remember his lines, he keeps on making mistakes here and there. His mind filled with Oh Aew's pain-stricken expression. Oh Aew's tears and his trembling lips when he said, "My answer is no". Teh knows, he knew that he was selfish for wanting that beautiful soul to be back with him. He knew that Oh deserved better, much better than his sorry, lame, decisive-ass. He had hurt Oh so many times, and he couldn't even count how many apologies and broken promises he threw to his beloved, kind Oh Aew. Still, Teh can't help but hope that Oh Aew's presence today means something, some light to his pitch-dark heart.
Teh's eyes followed Oh’s Aew's every move until suddenly a bright smile appeared on that man's delicate face. Looking around, it seems like Bas is the cause of that blinding smile. Dark clouds fill Teh's head with the realization. Deep inside, he knew that Bass was the better option for Oh. He is kind, almost as kind as his Oh. His ... was. Oh beaming beside Bas, his smile reached his eyes, a smile that Teh wanted to keep for himself. His heart wrenched with every little touch shared between Oh and Bas. Teh excuses himself to the bathroom because the view is too painful to watch. He washed his face and desperately tried to calm his heart down. He is still counting his breath when Hoon calls him, because Nozomi is going to throw the flower. Teh is not ready to face Oh again, but he feels obliged to Nozomi, so he drags his feet to go outside once again.
Oh Aew caught the flower and immediately looked in Teh's direction. They were both stunned for a moment before Oh lowered his gaze and smiled at the cheering people around him. Teh couldn't stop staring at him, his mouth quivering, and he could feel the warmth of his tears flowing freely. As always, he is still a crybaby after all. He can't stop his tears forming, and can only leave the place to hide. Teh dragged his feet to the beach, as far as possible from the crowd. He is staring absentmindedly at the horizon when he feels Oh's presence beside him. He knows it is him without looking because ... it's Oh.
When Oh-aew started to talk, blood rushed to his head, leaving his hands and feet cold. Oh's soft voice has a hint of sadness in it. "You said that for you no one can replace me, that I am your dream ... well, for me, no one can replace you too, Teh." At those words, Teh finally looked at Oh-aew's face. But on that face there's no smile like he hoped to see. Oh-aew's stoic expression pierces through Teh's heart and it stings. Somehow, he knows that what comes next will be the final episode of their story. "You will always be my first best friend, first lover, first heartbreak. You will always be ... my Teh." Teh can feel rather than see Oh-aew's tears. As if the smell of salt from the ocean water become stronger because of those tears.
"And that's it. That's enough. The amount of memories is overwhelming enough for me to last a lifetime. Let me continue to be your dream, as you are for me too ... and let us continue our life with another dream to chase. There are thousands of paths in life for us to walk on. I've walked on your path before. I loved, beloved, got hurt, and hurt people in the process. Now I will just walk on my own path, in a world without you roaming every corner of it. Let us move on, Teh." Oh-aew ends his monologue with a sad smile. But Teh can see the clarity in his beautiful eyes.
He knows, even if there's any miracle that will let them be together again, they will both end up in misery anyway. He needs to move on, not only for himself but especially for Oh-aew. For his sweet, kind, caring, past lover. Teh finally nodded and sent a relief smile to Oh-aew. They finally reach a mutual understanding. To let go, to start anew, to keep their imperfect yet very perfect story to themselves. They hug, cry, smile, laugh together on that beach for the last time. He kissed Oh-aew's temple with prayer for their future, for their happiness, separately. He will always love him, he will always tell the sunset about him, just like Oh-aew did in their sepia-colored days.
