Chapter Text
Silicon City was full of beaches. It was right on the ocean, and was filled with all sorts of water ways and channels throughout. This particular beach wasn’t sandy, but rocky. Dr. Light, former combat medic and current scientist, watched as his daughter, Suna, explored. She was a very curious girl, even for a one year old. He stood by, making sure she wouldn’t get hurt, but allowing her the freedom to investigate the area
Suna crawled across the rocks towards the water. She giggled as the water splashed her. Then she heard a noise, a crack. She turned towards it. Suddenly, there were more cracking noises. She made her way towards the sound, seeing an egg. An egg that was hatching!
“Daddy! Daddy!” Suna yelled.
“Hm? What is it?” Dr. Light asked as he walked over to his daughter, then he saw the egg.
“Look, that egg is going to hatch! We’re going to see a baby animal.” Dr. Light said. Suna squealed excitedly.
He had expected maybe a bird, or some sort of fish. What he had not expected, were two humanish faces looking right at him. Their upper bodies were like that of a human, mostly. With sharp claws and teeth, and large ears, and one having a light blue color, the other light yellow. The blue one had black hair and brown eyes, while the yellow one had blonde hair and red eyes. Instead of legs, were 8 tentacles, bringing the number of limbs up to 10. They began to cry, and Dr. Light instinctively picked them up. They nuzzled into him.
He had heard tales of merfolk. His wife was a marine biologist, and she claimed they had to be real. Though he heard others they were dangerous, but he never believed it. Something with human levels of sentience can be good or bad. But he also heard how they lived in groups. And just how fragile the pups were. He looked around and spotted a toy bucket.
“Suna, go get that bucket and put some water in it.” Dr. Light instructed.
“Ok!” Suna said, and crawled off to do that. Once she got the water, Dr. Light put the mer pups inside.
“Watch them, make sure nothing comes to hurt them.” Dr. Light told her as he went into the sea. He swam and swam, only briefly coming up for air. After about an hour, he returned. He couldn’t find any merfolk, much less squid merfolk. The boys were orphaned, they wouldn’t survive in the wild. Dr. Light knew what he had to do. He swam back, and saw Suna playing with them, giggling and laughing. The blue one was glowing a vibrant blue, and the yellow one a vibrant gold.
“Hi daddy!” Suna said, seeing her father emerge from the water.
“Suna, I couldn’t find their mama or daddy.” Dr. Light said, panting from exhaustion. Suna looked sad, while the boys looked confused.
“It’s alright, well it’s not, but things will be alright. Suna, how do you feel about having brothers?” Dr. Light asked. Suna’s face lit up!
“Brobas!” She babbled, hugging the bucket. Dr. Light chuckled.
“Alright, lets get back home.” He said. As they walked back to the car, he thought to himself. He raised Suna all on his own (the day of her birth was both one of the happiest days of his life, given it was his daughter’s birth, and one of the saddest, as it was the day his wife died), how hard would raising the squid boys be? Now that he thought about it, they needed names. He looked at the mer pups.
“Say hi to your brothers. Aki, and Daini.”
The Lights returned to their house, nicknamed the Lighthouse. It sat on a cliffside right above the waters of the ocean. It was night now, definetly past Suna’s bedtime. And Aki and Daini probably needed sleep too. Once inside, Dr. Light went to the bathroom and filled up the bathtub. Suna brought Aki and Daini in, and poured the bucket in the tub. The boys decided to explore their new surroundings. Aki, the blue one, looked up at the shower head, and tried to climb to it by using his tentacles to grab the water spout, but he only ended up hanging upside down, while Daini, the yellow one, kept trying to grab soap bottles which Dr. Light had to move out of his reach. Dr. Light chuckled.
“I know it’s not ideal. As soon as I can, I’ll have something more appropriate set up.” He said. Suna came running in, her father not even having noticed she left, carrying a blanket and a pillow.
“Suna, what are you doing?” Dr. Light asked.
“Sleep with brodas!” Suna said, trying to climb into the tub, but Dr. Light caught her.
“You can’t sleep in there, you’ll get your jammies all wet.” He said. There was also the obvious reason but he didn’t want to scare her. “I’ll make you a special suit so you can spend as much time underwater as you want, but for right now, you should head back to your room.”
“No! I stay here!” Suna said, placing the pillow next to the tub and laying on the floor, wrapping herself in her blanket.
“Alright. I don’t see the harm in it.” Dr. Light said, tucking her in.
“Goodnight, Suna.” He said, giving her a forehead kiss. He bent over to the tub, and held out his hand. Aki and Daini grabbed on.
“Goodnight, Aki. Goodnight, Daini.” He said, giving them forehead kisses, which made them glow a bit and happily babble, before heading out of the room. He decided to do research. If he was gonna take care of them, he needed to know how. So after some phone calls, and looking through his wife’s old notes, he would spend hours researching. He locked himself in his lab to do this research.
At 3 in the morning, he decided to go to bed. But first, he checked on the kids. To his surprise, he saw Aki and Daini out of the tub, sleeping while cuddling with each other and Suna. Dr. Light smiled.
