What Comes After?

Summary:

Mistakes are something that Ocean does ever rarely.

Then why did this happen?

(When an accidental thing ends up snowballing)

Notes:

Aha-

I promise I’ll expand this at some point but I’ll keep tabs minimal >:)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Ocean didn’t know why she had a headache when she woke up.

It wasn’t her normal type of headache, the type that was induced by her parents' weed and her mother's incense that Ocean was too familiar with. No, it was a different one, it felt more head pounding than mind numbing, it made her whole body ache, especially her back. She felt gross, sticky, and sweaty. What was she even doing? Her room was usually so warm, yet it was cold here-

A hand roughly squeezed her stomach, a deep groan came from, “що в біса… Fuck my head.” Ocean blinks, what the heck? Why did that voice sound like Mischa? She rubbed her eyes, turning to her side, and she saw a boy with brown hair and sun-kissed skin,

Her eyes widen,

The memories came rushing back-

Thank you for hosting so we can do the project in your house, Mischa!” Ocean said, stepping into the eerily quiet house. Mischa just shrugged, “We need to finish the project. The faster we finish, the more time I can use to write and drink.”

Ocean cringed. God help her, this kid is insane.

The project was done, but it ended because the two were screaming at each other. Ocean had started it, and she got frustrated with Mischa.

“You are SO SMART! WHY DON'T YOU APPLY YOURSELF?!”

“THERE IS NO POINT WHEN THEY ARE ALWAYS ON MY ASS!”

The two fought, the secrets and the shame they felt, then cried, an odd sense of relief flooded them, they faced two opposite problems, yet the same ones. The blur of the night ended with Mischa giving Ocean a bottle of alcohol.

“This is alright, not bad, but will keep you feeling good for a bit.”

Ocean took it—the stress of school, family, everything—she finally took a swig. Mischa grinned, took the bottle, and took some himself.

They drank too much, not worried about his parents coming home, then somehow it ended with them undressing, kissing-

Ocean bolts up from Mishca’s bed, waking Mischa up in the process. “Oh my god!” She gasped, moving away, clutching the blanket to try and recover some of her dignity, Ocean was freaking naked. Mischa was naked; they were both in his “room” (basically a basement), both reeking of alcohol and sweat.

She stared at the boy, who seemed to have dawned on the realization.

Ocean O’Connell Rosenburg had sex with Mischa Bachinski.

There was silence, a deafening one where Ocean could feel her heartbeat thumping in her ears. This wasn't supposed to happen. Ocean wasn't supposed to lose her virginity to a one-night stand! This was a mistake, a huge one.

In a movie, this is where they would have fallen in love and started some grand love story, but as Ocean is concerned, Mischa could keep his love. Ocean didn't do “romance”; it quite literally distracted her from her goals. Mischa and Ocean were different, didn't even talk much before this project, so if this is God’s or fate's cruel way of trying to set her up with her “true love”.

She wasn't having it.

“Ocean,” she snaps back into reality, seeing Mischa’s pale face. “I-I am sorry. I don’t- I didn't want this to happen.”

Ocean felt flushed, “I…It’s fine. I just- want to be clear. This” she points to Mischa and then herself, “Will never happen again, I don’t have anything-I don’t like you like that Mischa, I want that to clear because this wasn’t what I wanted to be the outcome-”

“Same.” Mischa said, “You are not who I like.”

Ocean slowly nodded, “Okay, good. We can clean up, get ready for school, and pretend this never happened. What time is it?”

Mischa turns to grab his phone and sighs, “Only 5:30.”

“Gosh-okay, I need to get to school for a student council meeting at 6:30 before school starts so I can-”

“What the fuck, why are you up that early?!” Mischa asks, “This isn't early for me! I try to get there at 6:00.”

“You're біса божевільний…” Mischa muttered, Ocean didn't understand but she decided to ignore it in favour of getting out of this issue.

“You said your parents weren’t here this week, right?” She asked, trying to discreetly get her clothes, “Ah, yeah. They went out of town for a wedding, and will be back at the end of the school week.”

“Okay,” Ocean replies, “Okay, okay. Let’s just get ready, I’m going to go shower, is there any?-”

“Bathroom is down that hall.” Mischa points behind Ocean, “I'll clean up and I'll drive us to school?”

Ocean nods, “Yeah, that is good.”

Ocean then rushed to the bathroom, which was a lot grosser than she wouldve liked but not as bad as her parents since she could flush the toilets here, and came out with her school uniform she wore yesterday. Once she finished, Ocean came out of the bathroom and saw Mischa in his uniform looking at his phone, God help her, and she could not help but feel sick at the sight of the man.

“I'm ready,” Ocean said, taking the project left on the table, and walked toward Mischa. He looks up and nods, looking away, probably feeling the same awkwardness she was, then they made their way out of the basement and out of the house into a car. Ocean decides not to ask where he got it.

They drove to school, and the car was quiet. Ocean couldn't shake this awful feeling about how this happened. “Ocean, we’re here.”

Ocean blinks out of her thoughts, and they were in front of the school, the sun slowly coming up. She turns to Mischa, “You coming?”

“Nah, I'll come a bit later.”

She nods, then turns to the window, “...Who is the one you are into?”

She heard him suck in a breath, then a small whisper answers, “...Noel Grueber.”

Ocean turns back to look at him, eyes widen, “Wow, really?”

“For reals.” He replies, looking down at the wheel. “I thought you were with that girl, Talia?”

Mischa shrugs, “Talia…I loved her, still do, but she could not handle being so far; the heartbreak for her was too much. I do not blame her; the feeling was the same, but I was so angry. Then, Noel was there, my friendship with the poet blossomed into something…More passion than I have felt before.”

Ocean felt a small smile on her face; she supposed, behind that angry boy, there was someone who just wanted to love and be loved.

He turns back to her, “Ocean, I hope we can just go back to where we were before. I'll be honest, I don't remember a lot from last night, but I know we…”

“Don't worry,” Ocean responds, “We were intoxicated, it was a mistake on both our parts. I should not have participated in it and tried to stop you properly. Let's just… Leave that in the past, and go back to how it was before.”

Mischa nods, and Ocean sighs and gets out of the car. She turns back to Mischa, “Coming to choir?”

Mischa shrugs, “Maybe.”

Ocean opens her mouth to reprimand him, to get him to come when he drove the car out before she could respond.

Ocean mouth drops, anger boiling, she wanted to yell at the Ukrainian.

She suddenly had a spell of nausea.

Ocean ends up in the bathroom, vomiting.

She blames the alcohol.

It had been 3 weeks since the incident when Ocean noticed how bad the vomiting and the nausea got. She always woke up with a headache, vomit, and went to school feeling sore.

It wasn't like her; she probably should have gone to the doctor or something.

But the weeks after Mischa and Ocean’s incident had been nice!

Mischa and Noel ended up getting together shortly after and announced their relationship soon after. The choir was making good progress in learning their music (I am a train wasn't supposed to be super hard to learn.) and Ocean managed to raise her grades as well!

So why did she feel like crap?

She didn't know.

Not until her period came late.

Normally, she wouldn't have cared; it could have been that it was late or something else!

But she couldn't help but be paranoid.

So here she was, in her room, looking at the test as it soaks. The alarm she set hadn't gone off, so it will be fine.

She wasn't- she couldn't be. It would be too soon, it would be so bad if it happened.

But what would she do if it happened? Ocean hadn't thought about it, not in depth yet. She was too young, yet the truth was right in her face. They were was a chance that-

The alarm blares, and she flinches. Ocean then quickly goes to the test, looks at it, and feels the color drain from her face.

Two lines.

Ocean O’Connell Rosenburg was pregnant.

The world slowed down in her brain, and she couldn't form a thought. The world felt like too much, too much to handle. Ocean was supposed to be great, but now she was going to have a baby-

Wait.

She needed to breathe. She had to breathe.

Ocean collapses to the ground. The room felt like it was closing in on her, and her heart pounded, loud and uneven, echoing in her ears, and she needed it to stop. Her hands tremble, she looks down at the test, and the edges start to blur.

Ocean staggers to the wall, leaning on it, she tries to find something solid, something to ground herself, but she cannot, she can't find anything.

She tries to breathe, but breathing feels like drowning.

Ocean then feels her phone; it grounds her, a thing she needs to do.

She opens a contact and presses to call.

The phone rings.

“Hello?”

“Mi-Mischa, hey- I-” She takes a deep breath as she looks at the positive pregnancy test. “Are you alone right now?”

“Uh, yeah, just dropped Noel off at his house, what's up?”

“I have to tell you something to tell you, and we gotta discuss this.”

Notes:

There was another Pregnancy fic on here by saltspell called “not a lot, just forever” that inspired this. I just wanted to make it messier :)

Side note: This will be broken up into different fics just cause I struggle ever finishing fics that are multi chaptered.
