Summary
“Are you hurt?” he asks, his voice coming out chocked, and it’s the most ridiculous question Buck has ever heard. Eddie, who’s been shot, who’s bleeding out, asking if Buck’s okay, but then he looks down, noticing the way his shirt is stained crimson with Eddie’s blood.
“No, no, no, I’m good,” he promises. “You just hang on, okay? We’re three minutes away, we’re so close, so I need you to hang on—“
Buck doesn’t miss it this time, the way that the world stutters, colour flickering out as Eddie closes his eyes. The blood goes from a bright red to a deep shade of grey, dull and and washed out, and Buck’s breath hitches, because no, this can’t be—
The world snaps again, harsh and sudden, back to vivid and full. Eddie’s eyes remain closed, but the universe flickers around Buck like it can’t keep a steady signal, and Buck can’t breathe.
Or, in a world where you stop seeing colours the moment your soulmate dies, colours never completely fade for Evan Buckley. Instead, they just flicker, blinking in and out of his world like a dying star, just like his heart does the day his best friend is shot.
