Kid Philip has a secret celebration for his 6th birthday with his family.

Notes:

HEY, EVERYONE!! On Tumblr, I made a post (here) on how I'll get to 100 works, what my 100th work will be about, and what I'll be writing going forward. This fic takes place in the universe of my multi chapter au story "A Winsome Witch And A Happy Human". "Cadman" and "Patience" are Philip and Caleb's parents! Not only are they in A Winsome Witch, but you can also read and find out more about them (here) and here. If you have a headcanon or fic request, you can submit it to my blog enchantedchocolatebars. You can also leave requests in the comments as well, if you'd like. Of course, comments, kudos, bookmarks, hits, etc are always greatly appreciated. After posting this, I'll share a Tumblr link to the story. It's already written, by the way. I just need to copy-paste it here and re-read it for mistakes. Enjoy! Tumblr link to fic is here.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Caleb and Cadman were leaving the woods together and carrying bundles of hardwood with them as they headed into town.

The wood was believed to be for fireplace purposes by most townspeople who passed by them.

However, those individuals were unaware of what the father and son duo planned to craft with the wood.

They both wanted to create numerous handmade stallion carvings that would be painted chestnut and set to dry.

Philip is whom the carvings are intended for.

...

As Caleb and Cadman arrive at their entry door, Cadman gives it a small knock, and both he and his son smile when Patience opens it.

Under her casual, Puritan dress, she wore an apron that was smeared with powdered sugar icing.

"There you both are. I'm almost finished with Philip's birthday cake," Patience said with a smile, her tone sweet and voice subdued as she and Cadman shared a small kiss on the lips.

She didn't want a certain birthday boy inside to hear her from his room, nor did she want her neighbors or any passersby to know that she had baked a birthday cake for her son.

Patience gestured at the two with her hand. "Come in, come in."

Once Cadman and Caleb enter inside, Patience quietly shuts the front door.

...

At night, Philip Wittebane's eyes glitter in surprise and delight, visibly excited about how the dining room table was set.

An apple cake topped with diced apples and cinnamon dressed in white icing was sitting in the center of the table, with lit candles surrounding it.

A big bowl of freshly made rosewater ice cream, topped with sugared strawberries, was also present on the table, as well as numerous chestnut-colored horse carvings standing squarely.

Philip looked at his brother and parents standing across the table from him and flashed them a soft smile.

Their lips rise to smile back at him.

Philip's soft smile was made bigger by the sound of Cadman, Patience, and Caleb singing to him.

He hurries to give his family a hug once they're done singing, and they happily hug him back.

"Happy birthday, Philip," Patience said, pressing a kiss to her son's forehead.

...

Everyone is now sitting at the table, and as the birthday boy, Philip gets the first slice of cake.

"Thank you, everyone," Philip tells his family, happily taking in all the attention he was receiving.

Sometimes the best birthdays were classified and only consisted of four people and a bunch of horse carvings at the table.
