Brooklynn had run and not looked back.
She hadn't wanted to see what Red would do, hadn't wanted to look upon the fruits of her own actions, the fucking consequences, hadn't wanted to face herself and what this choice, this decision of hers, made her. Or maybe what it meant she had been all along.
Brooklynn felt monstrous.
"Ben," she had managed to rasp out, and the smoke had crept into her lungs, a burning path right through, and she thought, deliriously, of Soyona. She cleared her throat weakly and did not look at him, grabbing ahold of his arm like a lifeline. "Ben, let's… can we just go?" She sounded tired, exhausted, even to her own ears, and she felt Ben's gaze on her, worried, maybe, or sick, nauseated by what he had just seen.
Brooklynn wouldn't have blamed him.
