"Something on your mind?" Heizou's gaze locked onto Kazuha's, he'd been staring up at the clouds again. As always around the anniversary of the Vision Hunt Decree's end, Kazuha spent more time observing the world and taking in his surroundings, reminiscing and contemplating.
"Just slightly. The clouds gather as though it's going to rain, darkening and covering up the sky in that same gloomy grey that seemed to last forever during the vision hunt decree." He answered, his tone not exactly sad but not entirely neutral.
The detective watched him for a moment, nodding quietly before slinging his arm around his omega's shoulders. "You know, there was a ceremony I really wanted to invite you to back then." Kazuha brought his gaze down from the clouds, meeting Heizou's soft greenish eyes. "It definitely wasn't the right time back then but," he paused, the corner of his lips curling up to a subtle smirk. "Would you accompany me this time around? Now that everyone's visions have returned we'll be able to see all the traditional displays. They'd make for good inspiration for your writing, too."
Kazuha laughed at the way Heizou was trying to sell the invite to him. "I'd be happy to join you."
--
Rushing through his wardrobe, Kazuha cursed himself under his breath for getting so lost in his thoughts, now running far later than he'd have liked. Adjusting his sleeve, smoothing the end of his ponytail, he let out a deep breath and decided he was dressed appropriately enough. He didn't have time for anything fancier so he just set off, using the wind of his vision to give himself a small boost.
On route Kazuha realised he'd never even asked what this ceremony was. Heizou mentioned something about vision displays, maybe something similar to the firework shows that Yoimiya put on from time to time? That'd be nice, and surprisingly romantic coming from Heizou who usually invited Kazuha on more stereotypical and practical dates.
Before he knew it he was quickly slotting himself down beside his alpha, keeping his breath steady so it wasn't obvious that he'd rushed his way here.
"Kazuha?" Mamoru shot up from his seat, eyes wide with shock. "What are you doing?!"
"Huh?" The blond snapped from his thoughts. "What? What's wrong?"
"That's the Alpha King's sacred spot for his mate!" Akira rushed through what could've been a very longwinded explanation, had he left it to Mamoru. "Each omega who dares sit there gets torn apart..."
Kazuha's stomach twisted with guilt and embarrassment, he glanced back to the alpha beside him. "What do I do?" He lowered his voice to a panicked whisper. "I just wanted to sit beside you, I didn't think-"
He'd expected a little urgency in his alpha's response but Heizou simply took his hand, rubbing the back with his thumb. "Zuzu, who exactly do you think the alpha here is?"
The omega paused, his racing thoughts slowed as the realisation hit him. "We're mates, aren't we?" Heizou asked. "I was saving this seat for you."
"And... the alpha 'King'? What's that about?" Kazuha asked, to which Heizou laughed and shrugged.
"You know how Itto and his 'bros' are. I have no idea."
"So you wouldn't tear up another omega just for sitting here?" The poet continued, starting to laugh as his nerves settled.
"I'd tear y-" Heizou was interrupted by Yoimiya, who cheerfully announced that the firework show was starting.
"Everyone, eyes this way please!" She beamed as she gestured to the front of the crowd.
