Ekko doesn’t reply. In fact, he’s so silent that she wonders if she’s said something spectacularly wrong. Ekko, she wants to ask, but her bravery has deserted her in the face of his impossibly–bright eyes, too akin to the moon reflected in a night–dark lake.
“You do,” he finally whispers, “mean something to me.”
