Work Text:
It was 8:45 PM. The clock was five seconds behind and ticked every other second instead of every second. People were talking. Lots of people. Pure Vanilla couldn’t tell how many exactly, but he’d have to guess over 45. The tile made a small tink sound when stepped on, except for the broken tile, which made a sound one note lower every time it was stepped on. It was about to crack. Vanilla’s hat rested atop his head, his hair brushing against the back of his neck, itching like it was on fire. His clothes were slightly off, maybe he hadn’t used enough fabric softener. The glass he was holding made a clink when placed on a table, and a quiet swish followed. The liquid inside was a deep red. His tongue was resting dead center in his mouth, and he had nothing in his teeth but a lingering taste. The air smelled like pastries, but it was too sweet. The only thing Pure Vanilla could do was stand there, lest he look like a fool.

Golden Cheese, dressed in her finest attire for this lovely gala, leaned against a wall, a little bored, before something caught her eye - one of her finest treasures, Pure Vanilla, stared a little too intently into his drink. It was like he was frozen in status, his eye slightly twitching and his hands shaking. Golden Cheese sprinted to Hollyberry. “Hollyberry, dear, this is lovely, but I don’t think Vanilla is feeling his best - you know how he feels about events like these.” Before Hollyberry could say anything, she continued: “I’m going to escort him somewhere quieter, just tell the others. I love you.” Golden Cheese darted off.

A familiar voice spoke to Pure Vanilla. She spoke softly. It was nice. “I’m not going to grab your hand or anything because I know you don’t like that, dear. But would you like to go somewhere quieter?” He grasped the woman’s hand tightly. She led him up the stairs into a small guest room. The noises slowly faded out until the only sound left was the footsteps of them walking. She let him lay down, and slowly he was able to actually understand where he was and what he was doing. He sat up and embraced Golden Cheese. He kissed her on the cheek and smiled. “…Thank you. I’m sorry about that.” “Oh, don’t blame yourself for something you can’t control, darling. I’m just glad you’re feeling better.” She replied.
