“Um…. we’re closed.”
“Oh,” Robby’s face fell. He had really really wanted the chocolate loaf. “Could I just -” His eyes shifted to the display case, “Ma’am, I haven’t eaten for almost a whole day, and that chocolate loaf would really, really make my day."
Her face faltered, and she gave him a once over. She grabbed the chocolate loaf and put it in a paper bag, then looked at him again and put all the other stuff in there too. “I was going to throw these out anyways, so you can -” She paused, as if considering her words, “On the house.”
Or.... Robby tries to figure out if the owner of the bakery who keeps giving him free food and offers to pay him for odd jobs is flirting with him.
