The cold, putrid water swirls, engulfing Theodore's head. His small, furry body flails, a choked whimper escaping his throat. The sickening gurgle of the toilet, punctuated by the bullies' cruel laughter (Trevor’s guttural cackle, Dirk’s high-pitched snicker), echoes off the grimy tile walls of the West Eastman Elementary boys’ bathroom.
Theodore’s little green hoodie is soaked, clinging miserably to his fur.
Outside the stall, Simon’s blue eyes narrow as his usually rational brain short-circuits at the sight of his littlest brother’s humiliation. A low, guttural growl rumbles from his chest, a sound rarely heard. Beside him, Alvin's fury ignites like a wildfire.
"Hey! Get off him!" Alvin screams, his voice cracking with pure, unadulterated rage. He launches himself forward, a tiny, red-furred missile.
Simon follows, his spectacles glinting, his small fists clenched.
They hit the bullies like miniature, enraged tornadoes. Alvin bites into Trevor’s ankle, sharp chipmunk teeth piercing skin, while Simon scrambles up Dirk’s leg, scratching and clawing with surprising ferocity.
The bullies yelp in shock and pain, flailing wildly, unable to dislodge the furious chipmunks clinging to them. Trevor screams, hopping on one foot as Alvin clamps down harder. Dirk shrieks as Simon pulls at his ear. The chaos is absolute, chipmunk fury unleashed, a blur of fur and sharp nails. The bullies, shocked by the ferocity, finally stumble back, dislodging the brothers and scrambling away, leaving a gasping, dripping Theodore in their wake.
