Tuvok’s door chimed. With an inaudible sigh, he extinguished his candle and stood. He found Chakotay standing on the other side. “Commander.”
“Sorry, I know it’s late,” Chakotay apologized. “But there’s something we need to talk about before the morning.”
“Is this a security matter?”
“You could say that.” Chakotay looked back at the empty hallway. “Mind letting me in?”
Tuvok closed the door behind them. “What can I do for you, commander?”
“It’s Captain Janeway,” Chakotay said. “B’Elanna just told me that she distributed the rest of her replicator rations to the engineering crew as a reward for upgrading the impulse engines so quickly.”
Tuvok raised his eyebrow. “I fail to see how that is relevant to ship’s security,” he replied. “Although I would prefer that the captain spend her own rations, she is free to give them to others as she sees fit.”
“You don’t understand.” Chakotay shook his head. “I stopped by her ready room this morning, and she’s out of coffee beans.”
Tuvok’s eyes widened. “I see,” he said. He strode to his computer and tapped on the controls. “See that the remainder of my rations for the month are transferred to the captain’s account immediately.”
