Work Text:

Kit looks over to where Shane’s sitting, feeling uneasy. He taps his pencil quickly against the desk, trying to focus on his work, but it’s no use - his mind is elsewhere. He keeps glancing at Shane and the boy he’s talking to, trying to read their lips; prying his way into their conversation. He’s never been good at reading lips though so it all sounds like complete gibberish in his mind, a total failure.

He glances up at the boy who’s looking at Shane, his boyfriend, with a gleam in his eyes. It sends a mixture of anxiety and anger in his bones, it settles hot and heavy in his chest.

He wonders if Shane can pick up on the way this random guy is looking at him, the flirty glances, the way he tilts his head like he’s paying attention, but isn’t really, smiling just right. The way his eyes skim over his face, taking in the details.  It makes him sick. Jealousy runs amok in his skin and heart, he can’t stand it.

Truthfully, he hates feeling jealous. Doesn’t like how he acts when he is feeling this way, it makes feel insecure and uncomfortable and - just really not like himself. So, most of the time, he tries to shove it away, and reassure himself that Shane likes him. Shane only likes him. But sometimes it’s no use, especially in moments like this; where this random freak is sitting a bit too close and touching his arm and hand a little too much.

It’s like his body moves on its own violation; he doesn’t even know he’s standing right next to Shane until he hears his name come out of his mouth.

“Kit?” Shane questions, clearly confused. “What are you doing?”

Kit doesn’t take his eyes off the guy who’s sitting way too close to Shane for his liking. “Just wanted to see what you were up to.”

He glances at Shane and gives him a warm smile, and then immediately moves his gaze to the man stealing minx in front of him, and gives him a glare. The dude doesn’t seem fazed, looks at him calmly and it only makes Kit more irritated.

“Not much,” Shane responds, looking up at him. “Just teaching nong Paper how to do these math problems. Mr. Tan said that he was having trouble and wanted me to tutor him for today because his regular tutor is sick.”

“Okay,” Kit says. “Do you mind if I join? I got some work of my own to do that I need help with.” He smiles but it doesn’t reach his eyes, and pulls up a chair next to Shane on his left side so that Shane is in the middle.

Shane looks at him confused, but doesn’t say anything. He feels a little childish, feeling jealous over a 10th grader, but in his defense the 10th grader has been a little too touchy-feely towards his boyfriend. And, Kit, well, Kit doesn’t like that at all. He casually puts his arm around Shane’s shoulders, and Shane gives him a look because move away and Kit feels like he just scored the final goal of a soccer match.

Nong Paper gives him a look, like he didn’t expect Kit to do such a thing. But he backs off, moves slightly away from Shane and now Kit is feeling extra pleased with himself.

“Were you jealous earlier?” Shane asks, as Kit lays between his legs, back to chest as he plays on his Nintendo switch.

“What do you mean?” Kit asks, focused on the game he’s playing.

“I mean, you were acting a little funny today at school,” Shane says, brushing his fingers through Kit’s hair absentmindedly. “You know, when I was tutoring nong Paper.”

Kit shrugs, trying to play it off. “Maybe a little jealous. But I’m fine now.”

“Why were you jealous in the first place?”

Kit turns to look up at him. “I don’t know. He was just acting too flirty with you and I didn’t like that. Could you not tell?”

Shane shakes his head. “No. I was just focused on teaching him math problems. And besides, you’re my boyfriend and I like you.”

Kit beams up at him and places a soft kiss on his cheek. He’ll never get tired of Shane calling him his boyfriend, it sends a rush through him every time. Makes his heart squeeze in his chest in the best possible way.

“I like you too,” Kit says, smiling softly.

Shane hums and gives him a sniff-kiss. “I don’t mind you being jealous sometimes. It’s nice. But there’s nothing to worry about, I like you, Kit.”

Kit nods and turns around and wraps his arms around Shane’s torso, squeezing slightly. He knows it was a bit foolish to be jealous, but sometimes he can’t help it. He has to let other people know that Shane is his and his only.
