Chapter Text
An orange-haired boy shot up from his bed at 6am sharp. He then quickly got dressed as he skidded outside.
“Shoyou! Come here for a moment!” A woman called out as Shoyou exited his room.
Hinata walked to the kitchen where the woman was at— “Yeah mom?” He answered cheekily.
Shoyou’s mom came over and pat his head, “Happy birthday, dear!”
Hinata grinned,
“You said you were going to go play volleyball with your friend, Tobio, right?” His mom asked.
Hinata nodded, “Yup! I’ll be back by latest 12!” He said eagerly.
Shoyou’s mom smiled, “Take your time! Be safe, dear!” His mom said happily.
Shoyou nodded once more, then ran out the door, and he hopped on his bike and rode down that familiar mountain.
———————
There was a park Hinata was going too, it was close to his school. Karasuno had gone into a summer break, so that’s why Hinata couldn’t just simply practice at his gym.
Hinata was excited to turn 16, he was 2 years closer to being and adult, it was the age he’d be once he becomes a second year. And it’s 2 more years to leaving Karasuno!
…
Hinata didn’t want to leave Karasuno, he was fine with the way things were.
Hinata shook his head while riding his bike, “No, no! Everything will be cooler once you grow up!” Hinata thought too himself.
He then made it to the park, and say Kageyama’s tall figure.
“Oiii! Hinataaa!” His friend yelled as Hinata came closer.
“Kageyama-kun!” Hinata said as stopped infront of Kageyama, his expression a bit saddened.
Kageyama noticed this, grabbed Hinata’s face and said— “Oi, why’re you upset on your birthday, hm?” He said kind of harshly.
“Owow, Kageyama-kun— and I’m not upset!” Shoyou whined.
“It’s stupidly obvious that you are.” Kageyama spoke, still holding Hinata’s face.
“Okok, maybe I’m just worried for what’s to come in the future…” Hinata mumbled, embarrassed.
Kageyama tried to keep a straight face. Tried too, untill he ended up laughing like crazy.
“Hey! It’s not funny this is serious.” Hinata said while pouting.
“Shoyou, scared to become even better? That’s a first.” Tobio chuckled.
Hinata stared at him, wide-eyed. “You…say it again.”
“Eh!?” Kageyama looked at his friend confused.
“You said ‘Shoyou,’ not ‘Hinata’.” The Orange-haired boy said.
Kageyama blushed, letting Hinata’s face go. “Oh shut up, it just slipped.”
“Tobio-kun~, let’s play now.” Hinata said while grinning.
“DON’T CALL ME BY MY FIRST NAME NOW, DUMBASS!” Kageyama yelled, embarrassed.
“But first, I have a surprise, I also got you a gift but that’s for later.” Kageyama shared.
Hinata looked at him, his eyes twinkling. “Woahh, Tobio got me a gift? AND a surprise!”
“Don’t get so excited dumbass! Ugh, you guys can come out now.” Kageyama spoke.
Suddenly— Hinata’s whole team appeared.
“Happy Birthday!” They all cheered, besides for Tsukishima who just simply wished him “Happy birthday,” with little to no emotion or emphasis behind it.
“Suga-san!? Daichi-senpai, Asahi-san, and even Kiyoko-san? Wh-I thought you all were busy with college!” Hinata said, amazed.
Suga grinned, “we all tried to make an effort to come, afterall, you celebrated all of our birthdays great aswell! And either way we would’ve still surprised you!”
Hinata grinned happily, and him and the whole Karasuno volleyball team chatted nicely, before playing a couple matches.
————————-
It was time to say goodbye to Hinata’s team, he knew he would see all of them again, but it was still sad to say goodbye. He looked around at everyone, and he said Suga and Kageyama talking, it seemes as though Suga was giving him advice…?
Hinata didn’t mind,
“BYE GUYS! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TODAY!” Shoyou yelled while jumping and waving goodbye.
Hinata then sat down, and fhe remaining person—Kageyama, walked up to him.
“Happy?” Kageyama said, slightly flustered.
Hinata nodded like a puppy, “Very!” he exclaimed.
Kageyama quickly ran over to his bag, pulling out a small giftbox out of it. “I-I got you a few things actually..” He mumbled, sitting down next to Hinata.
Kageyama then gave Hinata the box, and the orange-haired boy began to unwrap it, slightly aggressively.
“…WOAHH!” Hinata said as he held up a small phone charm in the shape of a volleyball.
Kageyama laughed, then told Hinata to open the envelope.
Shoyou then opened the envelope carefully, and inside sat 2 tickets to a volleyball game.
“EHH!? TOBIO-KUN! THIS MUST HAVE BEEN EXPENSIVE!” Hinata exclaimed.
“It wasn’t that much, don’t worry about it. Also— there are 2 tickets, so you can pick who you want to go wi-“ Kageyama was cut of by Hinata.
“You,” The “birthday boy” said immediately.
“A-ARE YOU SURE, YOU GAVE THAT BARELY ANY THOUGHT!” Kageyama shouted.
Hinata nodded, “Yup!” He said cheerfully.
Kageyama turned his head, his face red. The two then got up, as Hinata needed to leave.
Just as Hinata was about to leave, Kageyama grabbed him, pulling him into a hug. “Happy birthday, you dumbass.” He said shyly.
Hinata stood still for a bit, before inevitably hugging him back, “Is this why you were so flustered this whole morning?” He said.
Kageyama didn’t reply, and just squeezed Hinata a bit more before letting him go.
Hinata grinned , “Wow, 3 gifts from Tobio-kun. How nice! Bye-bye now Tobio, I’ll see ya’ at the volleyball game!”
As Hinata left, Kageyama stood still, then immediately grabbed his phone and called Suga.
“Yes, Kageyama?” Suga said over the line.
“It- it went good, thank you for your encouragement.” Kageyama mumbled.
“Hehe, no problem, by the way— I’m still with the whole team and your on speakerphone!” Suga said cheerfully.
“What went well~” Tanaka and Nishinoya said in union in a stupidly exaggerated tone.
“U-uhm…………” Kageyama mumbled, followed by him saying goodbye and hanging up the line.
“Always so flustered when it comes to him,” Suga said to the group as they all continued to bug for answers. Besides Tsukishima and Kiyoko, as they had almost no interest.
——————-
Hinata rode his bike up the mountain, happy with everything that had happened so far.
Once he arrived home, his little sister— Natsu, and his mom wished him “Happy Birthday,” once again. And a small Vanilla cake was on the table, along with his favorite food—Eggs over rice.
After eating, Hinata’s mom gave him his present, which was a new pair of volleyball shoes, the one he’d been eyeing infact. And Natsu gave him a volleyball she had bought with the little money she’d saved. Hinata thanked them both, and when he finally had a small moment the rest— he layed flat on his bed, and the orange-haired boy opened his phone to quite a few messages.
Kenma: “Happy Birthday, Shoyou.”
Lev: “Happy birthday! Have ya’ grown yet? Sure hope ya’ did!”
Koji: “Happy birthday! We should meet up sometime!”
Izumi: “Happy birthday, Sho-chan!”
Hinata continued to go through the messages he got, quite proud of how many people had been so fond of him as to write.
After replying to all of them, he layed down again.
And then— he got another message.
Kageyama: “Sorry if what I did was weird.”
Hinata grinned before responding.
“Felt like a third gift.” He typed and clicked send.
Hinata was 16 years old, and he’d only grow even taller and stronger.
——————
It was night, Hinata and his family were sound asleep, Shoyou slept next to the volleyball Natsu got him, his new shoes from his mom on the floor next to his bed, still in they’re box. His phone on his nightstand, the volleyball phone charm attached to it. And his volleyball game tickets on his desk, the date of the game marked on his calendar. June 26th is when he’ll see Kageyama again.
