Work Text:
July 29th, it was Tanizaki’s birthday.
He didn’t assume the agency would make a big deal out of it—as they did with Dazai. But he didn’t mind it.
Birthdays were no big deal.
It’s not that the orange-haired boy hated birthdays, he just saw no point in them. It’s just another day, that’s in a certain month, that’s in a certain year.
Anything else could’ve happened on that day.
**It just happened to be his birthday.**
“BROTHER!” A black-haired girl called out the morning of his birthday. She then ran up to him, giving him a small box.
“Your gift!” She explained.
Tanizaki nodded, thanking her sister. For the gift and partially not for immediately touching him intimately.
He didn’t open it quite yet though.
The rest of the went as so; the Agency celebrated his birthday happily, in a different way as he expected. But still to a high amount.
What happened was that Tanizaki entered the building, waving at the Agency members he saw, and he went to his desk, only to see it attacked by balloons and letters. All his colleagues then spooked him from behind, his dearest sister—Naomi— hugging her brother tightly from behind.
The rest of the day went as normal, work. Being wished happy birthday.
The same gist.
Once Tanizaki and Naomi had left, Naomi suddenly grabbed Tanizaki’s arm, “C’mon! I have a place I want to go, to celebrate!”
Junichiro put on a small smile, and let his dear sister lead the way.
It probably wouldn’t be what he wanted.
He’d always wanted to see snow on his birthday, or atleast get the sensation of real snow. Not his ‘stupid’ ability, or pictures of the fluffy, white thing. They didn’t mimic the feeling.
The girl looked up at the building, it was…a mall?
“Oh! Follow me, brother!”
Tanizaki continued to follow his sister, and after some walking, they stopped infront of a what looked like a Christmas-themed wherhouse.
“We’ve arrived!”
“Naomi, what is this place-?”
Naomi grinned, then spoke to the air “Come out, now!”
And at that cue, a bunch of the Agency Members appeared.
Tanizaki wore a confused look.
“It’s an indoor snow playground, Naomi-kun mentioned you wanted to mess around with snow.” A boy with closed eyes—Ranpo—spoke proudly.
Tanizaki looked down at the floor, back at everyone again. His eyes started to water slightly, and he began to laugh while covering his face with his hand.
“It’s really no big deal, you shouldn’t have.” He said while half-laughing, half-crying.
“Well, we did. So enjoy it!” A bandaged man declared.
And so, about 3 hours later, all the members of the Agency came out bright and happy, small spots of fake snow left on them.
Later that night, Tanizaki sat on his bed. Thinking of the fun they’d had.
It was nice.
They were having a snowball fight in that “playground.”
A lot of the members used their abilities to their advantage, Atsushi for example, used his tiger arm to throw the snow faster. And Tanizaki had used his ability to throw snowballs from behind people.
He laughed to himself, it was stupidly fun. Especially when he went back to think about it.
Junichiro picked up his gift from Naomi, slowly and carefully unwrapping the gift.
It was a snow globe, with two small figures of him and Naomi inside.
He shook the snow globe, watching the white particles falling down to the bottom of the globe.
He then picked up the card that was inside aswell.
“To the best brother ever!” The card read on the first line.
Tanizaki smiled.
“Thank you, Naomi.” He whispered under his breath, a small tear slipping down his cheek.
The boy then drifted off to sleep, the cards and gifts all next to him.
This was the best birthday ever for the boy.
The best damn one.
