She woke up in an unfamiliar bed, surrounded by unfamiliar walls. For a second her brain scrambled, still accustomed to the cold of the vault. And then she bolted upright.
“Derek?” Cora shouted, nearly tripping as her feet twisted in the blanket. “Derek?”
He appeared less than a second later, materializing silently, like a ghost. A figment of her imagination, like her desperation to have him - any of them - back had conjured him from thin air.
“Cora,” he rasped.
She collapsed into his arms, sobbing. He clutched her tightly.
“I'm here,” he said, tears falling onto her hair. “I'm here.”
