Work Text:
“You ever think about what we’re gonna do after this?”
“After what?” Poe said, picking at his dinner.
“After we win,” Anais said. “When this is over.”
He paused. “I don’t know,” he admitted. “Haven’t thought that far.”
“We could go anywhere.” She continued. “Do anything.”
“We could go home.”
“Not really home anymore.”
Poe put his hand over hers. “We could make a new one. Anywhere we wanted.”
Anais smiled. “Take everyone with us.”
“Start something new.” He nudged her with his foot. “We’ll make it.”
“I know,” she said. “Just nice to have something to look forward to."
They ate in silence for a while before Poe spoke again. “We could go somewhere no one knows us,” he started. “Pretend we’re someone else.”
“What’s wrong with being us?” Anais sounded amused.
“Nothing. But it would be nice not to have to hide, no?”
She stood up and walked around the table to sit next to him. She took his hand and leaned against him, head on his shoulder as she played with his fingers. “We might always have to hide.”
“That’s okay,” he tilted her chin up and kissed her gently. “Whatever it takes to be with you.”
