Work Text:

Ejiro hummed as he stirred awake at the sound of his alarm. He checked the time on his phone, 5:31 in the morning. Cool. Plenty of time to fix up his hair then jogging with Midori-

“No. No. Boyfriends. Boyfriends. He’s Izuku now,” Ejiro murmured, chuckling as he chastised himself. He and Izuku had just started dating not long after the start of their second year, having gotten to be pretty close after the USJ attack and their plan to rescue Bakubro.

Ejrio let out a yawn while stretching his thick arms before emerging from his bed and walking into his dorm room bathroom.

“Teeth,” he muttered, putting some paste on a brush and getting to work. Plaque wasn’t very heroic, now was it?

“Hair,” he hummed, gelling up his rust colored locks.

“First the wall,” he recounted, combing the front of his hair into his Crimson Riot homage. “Then the horns,” he concluded, splitting the corners of his hairline off from the main part of his hair into another homage, this time to his best friend. “Horn buddies for life, Mina,” he chuckled, as he checked out his look in the mirror.

“Yep, ship shape!” He concluded proudly as he finished off his morning routine.

Ejiro then tossed on a pair of running shorts and a clean white t-shirt that read “Crimson Might” in kanji, an homage to his and his boyfriend’s favorite heroes.

“Huh. Homage,” the red haired boy murmured, before shrugging. “I guess that’s the word of the day.”

Ejiro scanned the room as he stood in front of the doorway.

“Okay, what do we got?” He thought aloud, feeling his pockets. “Keys. Wallet. Earphones. Earphones? Oh! My phone!” He laughed, grabbing it off his nightstand.

“Better check my notifications,” Ejiro noted, taking a seat at the foot of his bed.

A few texts from Mina, a few texts from Bakugo, a message from his parents, he’ll make sure to reply to those later, oh what’s this? Hey, a memory from HeroBook!

Ejiro couldn’t fight the smile that spread across his face, the person who inspired him to finally become a hero in the first place. A strange green haired kid who saw his friend being swallowed up by some weird asshole made of slime who rushed in and tossed his backpack at them and started clawing at them to free that friend. And then it turned out that that green haired kid was quirkless! Two years ago he’d seen this video and that’s when he knew he had to finally get serious. If a kid with no powers at all could be that brave, then he had no excuses. Hardening wasn’t the best quirk? He’d damn well make it the best!

A text from Izuku.

Broccoli & Cinnamon Rolls:

“I’m in the common area, are you still coming?”

Ejiro smiled. Yep. No time like the present!

Like a Rolling Stone:

“Don’t worry! I’m coming! Just lost track of time!”

Broccoli & Cinnamon Rolls:

“Love you! 😘”

Ejiro blinked with surprise.

Holy crap. Only a month in and he was already saying “I love you,” he didn’t think he was ready for that.

“Oh be a man, Ejirio!” The red head chastised, shaking his head. “You’ll be ready when you’re ready. Don’t let yourself start spiraling. Just be a good partner.”

Ejiro grabbed a green fleece to match Izuku’s red one and ran downstairs.

“Hey!” He greeted.

“Hey!” Izuku replied, his usual bright smile gracing his adorable freckle face.

Gods he was so frickin cute!

“So what kept you?”

“Ah, I just took a bit too much time gelling up my hair then I took a minute to check my notifications and I got a little bit caught up scrolling through my HeroBook memories.”

Izuku nodded. “I’m not on HeroBook to be honest. I have a Twitter account but I think the last time I used it was the day we got our hero licenses.”

“What did you say?”

“I’m officially a licensed pro hero! Thank you mom! Thank you sensei! Thank you All Might! God is good!”

“I didn’t know you were religious,” Ejiro replied, looking surprised.

“I’m not usually, but I was talking with Shiozaki from Class B that day, and I guess all the God talk got to me,” Izuku chuckled, looking a bit embarrassed.

Oh gods, he was even cuter when he was flustered!

“Well either way, no time like the present. Lets fucking go babe!”

“Oh yeah! Lets! Do you wanna listen to the same album while we run again or do you wanna do that thing where we pick the album for each other?”

“Let’s pick for each other!”

“Okay then!” Ejiro replied, pulling up the music app on his phone and handing it to Izuku who handed his to him.

The two boys scrolled through each other’s phones before locking in their picks.

“Ready to up the irons?” Ejiro teased, before hitting play on Aces High by Iron Maiden.

“Oooh! This is one of my favorites!” Izuku grinned, as the old school heavy metal guitars flooded his brain with excitement. “I’ve been in more of a country mood though,” the green bean smirked, hitting play on Doin’ This by Luke Combs.

“Oh! I didn’t know you liked country music, this is pretty cool!” Ejiro grinned, as the singer’s voice filled him with an odd feeling of comfort and nostalgia. “You ready now?”

Izuku grinned and gave Ejiro a small kiss on the cheek. “Now I am.”

And then the two of them were off, walking out into the gentle darkness that was steadily giving way to the light of the early morning.

An hour and a half later the two of them were walking back up to the 2A dorm to find Bakugo making breakfast for the dorm while Momo hummed a pleasant tune to herself as she made tea.

“Hey Izuku. Hey Stupid Hair,” Bakugo greeted, regarding to his closest friends at UA with a brief nod before returning to the eggs he was cooking up.

Ejiro gave Bakugo a displeased look before turning away. After all they’d been through, it was still Stupid Hair? Really?

“Never mind Kacchan’s grumpy butt,” Izuku teased, switching out his trademark red sneakers and into his house slippers.

“Shut up!” Bakugo barked.

Ejiro laughed. “Way to prove him wrong, Bakubro.”

Bakugo muttered something vulgar under his breath then returned to making breakfast.

The two boyfriends shared another laugh and relaxed on the common room couch.

Ejiro let out a contented sigh. “I can’t believe it’s been two years since I decided to join the hero course.”

“Oh that’s funny, I decided to join the hero course two years ago too.”

“Oh yeah? What made you decide to join?”

“You brought it up, you first,” Izuku chuckled.

Ejiro shrugged. “So I was watching the news and I saw this really crazy story, a kid with no quirk saw his friend was being attacked by a villain made of sludge, so he ran past the people watching, past the cops, past the heroes, and fucking threw his backpack right in this guy’s face and started clawing at him so he could free his friend. He probably would’ve been a goner if not for All Might, but seeing someone with no power at all trying to save his friend, made me realize that if they could be brave enough to help people, well then so can I!”

Izuku stared at Ejiro dumbfounded and then looked back, up at Bakugo who was staring at him just as confused.

Momo, who'd been content to mind her business despite the conversation happening around her, was feeling very confused now as well. “Why the sudden silence, boys?”

Izuku let out a small anxious laugh. “Um, well, uh, the day I decided to join the hero course, I saw that Kacchan was being attacked by a villain made of sludge, and I freaked out and ran to save him. We probably would've both died on the spot but then All Might saved us. And then, because he was impressed by me being so brave, All Might told me that he would help me become a hero, which was a pretty big deal to me because I thought I was quirkless at the time.”

Ejiro stared at Izuku in shock. “You’re serious aren’t you? You’re just making a joke?”

Izuku nodded. “I am dead serious! Every word of that was true!”

Well, one part was a white lie, but he was pretty sure Ejiro would understand if he ever had to tell him about One For All.

Ejiro grinned widely. “You’re so freaking cool, Izuku.”

“You’re pretty cool too, Ejiro,” Izuku giggled.

“I love you so much,” Ejiro sighed, kissing the other boy deeply.

Wow. That didn’t take nearly as long as he thought it would.
